  1. Goodreads

By the way, the Goodreads iPhone app has a barcode scan feature which makes it easier to find the correct edition to add to your library. Might be available on other platforms as well.
  2. I want to take pretty pictures [of your face]

I've been happy with my Canon S95 for some time now. I have no need for a system camera even though I'm quite active in taking photos. I know where the term comes from, but the 'compact digital camera' vs 'digital single-lens reflex lens camera' comparisons etc. still boggle the mind. Plus, many people probably consider the micro four thirds cameras to be DSLR as well.
  3. Happy Birthday!

    Happy birthday Va-na-na-na-na-man.
  4. I want to take pretty pictures [of your face]

To be fair, SLR is not the most descriptive term for the type of camera it refers to.
  5. Goodreads

I mainly use it to keep track of the read and to-read books too. It also serves rather nicely as a centralized directory of the authors and their works. I haven't found the actual recommendation service to be very useful (same goes for Last.fm and similar services) but the "Readers also enjoyed" and "Lists with this book" sections yield interesting results every now and then.
  6. Feminism

I know that women had it really rough at one point in the history, but in trying to balance the situation we (they?) accidentally (on purpose?) tipped the scales way off in the other direction.
  7. Life

It's not the most comfortable feeling to wake up in the morning with a flu and realize that there are two strangers in your balcony who act as if they belonged there. Later I realized that I had accidentally slept in someone else's flat they were doing some kind of maintenance. Nothing left for me to do but to keep my curtains shut and listen to their gossiping.
  8. Tomb Raider

http://www.shacknews...d-rape-comments EDIT: I guess I missed an edit.
  9. You Bloody Idiots OR A Tale of M$

    That's one sad list.
  10. Tomb Raider

We had to watch Lord of the Flies in the elementary school. Thanks for the heads up on Kids. I will never watch that movie.
  11. The threat of Big Dog

Finally, a robot that makes you feel more alone than being alone.
  12. Life

Sounds like an interesting opportunity, synth. Good luck!
  13. The music is exactly what you would expect from a game in that setting. At least one review described it as repetitive and slightly annoying, but I'm perfectly happy with it. If the music starts bothering you, you can always turn it off and play your own chillout songs instead. In other words, the music is no reason to get or pass the game. If you are worried that your computer might not be able to run the game, you should check out the demo first. I think the graphics settings go quite low.
  14. Had to check it out too. What?
  15. I second Tropico 4. Very nice and and relaxing game. Maybe a bit repetitive (though much less than Tropico 3) but that doesn't bother too much if you only play one or two missions a day (as you most likely would because they are quite long).
  16. Dishonored - or - GIFs By Breckon

I would have pre-ordered the game immediately if that had been an in-game item.
  17. This would prevent one from accidentally slipping the Thank you all! before people have stopped posting their Congrats!. That is wasteful and awkward. I support this idea.
  18. Potentially stupid question but what does your dissertation consist of? Is it a (written) study on certain topic or are you allowed/supposed to create something? I think iPad and iBooks (and equivalent, basically most multimedia devices) have opened up very interesting possibilities when it comes to telling stories in a novel and interactive way. I don't actually know if there are any children's books in iBooks that take advantage of touch interaction, sound/microphone, video/camera, accelerometers, GPS and so on*, but there definitely should be. The possibilities are endless**. * I'm not sure if the iBooks thingy actually lets you use half of these features. If not, one can always create an app. ** They are not.
  19. Life

Yeah, denying the possibility of change altogether, shows that the person does not understand the scientific method at all and should be ignored.
  20. Life

(In Jake's robot voice) What is truth? So what about annoying religious people? Do we mutilate them as well? Anyway, I'm supposed to present the findings of my Master's thesis — which I have not started writing yet — in an international symposium in August. I'm not nervous yet, but I imagine that I will be very much so nearer to the deadline.
  21. In the usual place now. Quite a lot of 47-year-olds in here.
  22. Life

Sorry to hear that Henroid. Are you into strategy games? Tropico, Civilization and so on could work.
  23. Hitman: Absolution

Much more promising than the first gameplay trailer. This could even be the Hitman game I have been waiting for.
  24. General Video Game Deals Thread

Yeah. They don't count Frozenbyte, Botanicula, etc. ones in that.
  25. General Video Game Deals Thread

The Humble Indie Bunlde V is here. Very nice collection this time around although I already own most of the games.
