The Idle Book Club 1: The Sense of an Ending
Nappi replied to Chris's topic in Idle Book Club Episodes
Michael Chabon would have put an entire paragraph between the two bits of dialogue. I'm almost through The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay and while I quite like the book, that style of writing got tiresome really fast. I was thinking of reading Vladimir Bartol's Alamut next, but I now may have to pick Cloud Atlas, instead. Both are sitting on my bookshelf. What is the schedule for the first and second cast? I can't listen to episode 0, at the moment? -
You should be proud. Not many people have an actual nemesis. In all seriousness, though, that sounds pretty fucked up. Have you ever had the pleasure to meet her face to face? I've had a super stressful month between a conference presentation, a very tight project schedule, my Master's thesis and moving out. Luckily and to my surprise, I have entered a sort of fuck-it mode which enables me not to worry too much about work on the little spare time I still have left and which allows me to sleep relatively well at night. Basically, I'll do my best to meet each deadline, but I will not be too hard on myself if I don't. After all, I didn't set or even agree on any of those.

The reason why Legend of Grimrock has on-screen arrow keys. (I hope they actually shipped as well.)

The characters look bad. I don't mind. Backed.

The sole contents of the box are the final gameplay statistics such the number of people who have contributed to the opening of the thing and their age, sex and global distributions. The "winner" immediately realizes that he/she could never have achieved this on his/her own and experiences an incredible sensation of connectedness with all. Just as the first pioneering tear starts plotting on the player's face the path of what is to become a river of salt water, the game delivers its ultimate blow: Would you like to share this on Facebook? What will actually happen, though, is that the secret is revealed to someone who has no idea what the game is about and doesn't even realize that he/she was the only one who got there.

By Samson's jawbone of an ass!

Yeah, the PC version is great, with enough graphics and mouse sensitivity options to suit most people's needs. I finished the game some time ago and actually liked it quite a lot despite the huge relatively boring shootouts near the end.

As I mentioned in the Planetary Annihilation thread, if there is not single player, you can count me out. However, to be honest, I'm not very interested in C&C Generals 2 to begin with. I loved the old C&C games but, for some reason, I only played like five missions of Red Alert 3 before I was utterly bored.

I didn't realize it was that kind of game. Maybe I will buy it after all.

Minor Max Payne 3 spoiler below: In the final mission, as you approach a wounded enemy, Max mutters "So I guess I'd become what they wanted me to be. A killer." Then you are given a choice (?) of executing the poor bastard or letting him suffer. After the credits, I immediately checked the statistics: I had killed 1397 people during my playthrough. It's hard to appreciate being given a choice between life and death for a man who is actually missing limbs after that level of carnage. A choice between killing and sparing a guy who will in any case spend the rest of his life in agony because of you, when you are forced to kill most of the "regular enemies" you encounter throughout the game, feels like a bad joke to be honest. Somehow this joke is very popular with video game designers, though.

Jesus. That sounds insane. I couldn't imagine ever participating in a match like that myself but I would love to witness one (in some condensed form). How would these even be organized? Is there, you know, breaks and so on?

You couldn't be more wrong: (The torture is mandatory of course) EDIT: Basically Assassin's Creed with (modern) guns and brutal torture.

Ugh.. Couldn't read the whole article. Disturbing and completely unbelievable.

From the creator of QWOP comes CLOP. (I can't believe there isn't a thread discussing this game already.) I have to say, I enjoy this game much more than QWOP simply because in CLOP I can at least make some progress. There is a star collectible up high near the beginning and I have no idea how to reach it. Maybe one has to find the natural resonance frequency of the horse or something? I also appreciate the lame horse mode. Feel free to share your horse stories here.

This game looks awesome. Unfortunately, I'm not a big fan of multiplayer RTS. I don't mind getting my ass kicked in multiplayer FPS but after a 30+ minute match (I actually have no clue how long an average game of Planetary Annihilation would take) I would like to feel that I have actually achieved something. In addition, I don't think I could take the pressure. I think I will have to wait and see whether they will include a single player campaign or something, and then decide to back the project or buy the final product. To be honest, I don't even know how this game is supposed to be played at this point.

The creators of Uplay have just launched a store and are offering Hawx 2, From Dust, Silent Hunter 5, and Driver San Francisco for 1 [local currency]. Today's deal is Hawx 2. Who volunteers to check it out? I would but I have a dentists appointment or something.

Seems to be available in Finland. Maybe Iron Brigade is a registered trademark in Iceland and they need to rename the game again.

Rockstar, not you too! "Social Club UI Failed To Initialize (7)" I don't give a fuck about their social club so I wasn't really bothered by that at first. Then I realized that I was stuck at the title screen forever.

Could be interesting, but that gameplay video wasn't too promising. The UI and visual effects (at this point at least) are even more annoying and/or distracting than in Assassin's Creed. Also, I don't understand why the memory space is incredibly dull and clinical, even though they could just as well have made it totally awesome. I do like how appalled the protagonist is by the idea of having to kill someone, yet is perfectly okay with forcing him to kill himself.

I was hoping for some really clumpsy artificial remastering of the old episodes actually. Also, kidding. You did great job with the implementation. I think the separation between the speakers is pretty much spot on.
