  1. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

Is there any indication that this will ever happen?
  2. PL4YST4TION 4

Apparently, pretty much the only way to listen to music at the moment is Music Unlimited subscription, but Sony is looking into adding MP3, CD and DNLA support in the future.
  3. PL4YST4TION 4

My friend bought a PS4 on launch day because he wanted to play the new Assassin's Creed game during Christmas and his PS3 self-destructed about a month ago. Since there is no point in buying a new PS3 at this point (for him at least, since he already owns all the PS3 games he is interested in and is, apparently, not keen on replaying them), I would say his decision to buy the console on launch day made (some) sense. What is more interesting is that due to some bizarre mix-up he actually ended up with a spare PS4 he was offering me at launch price. On the one hand, I had already accepted the fact that I would, most likely, buy one at some point next year, and knew that the price of the console was not going to drop anytime soon. PS4 would also be a better media center alternative to my current configuration of PC for Blu-rays and SmartTV for Netflix (for more HD titles and 5.1). On the other hand, none of the launch titles interest me at all (except for AC which I already have on PC), so the console would be gathering dust (games-wise, at least) well into spring. I ended up saying 'no, thanks'.
  4. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

Yeah, setting up the thing was amazingly frustrating. Not a big fan of any of the user interface choices, either. For example, I'm not at all sure if I want to get used to selecting with the rightmost button. That said, I'm happy that Nintendo games look super nice again and that I don't have pretend that the motion controls work and are enjoyable. So far, I have only played Wind Waker HD and drooled over Super Mario 3D World and Pikmin 3 gameplay videos, though.
  5. Idle Thumbs 134: Sports

Holy shit, that hat scam email was amazing! More of this please.
  6. Assassin's Creed: Buccaneer

So far this has been a huge improvement over the previous game. Lots of stuff to do and most of it is actually fun this time around. There has definitely been some frustrating Assassin's Creed moments here and there but not nearly as much as in the previous games. The ability to hide in the foliage, for example, makes some of the stealth missions almost enjoyable.
  7. Is Posting Threads Busted?

Damn, I can't find the Nick-sleeping-unaware-of-being-photographed picture anywhere anymore.
  8. Yeah, no, it was excellent. You should definitely cast with the others more often.
  9. Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)

I should play this game drunk more often: http://youtu.be/cJPWQEKCGkE Also, I think my death was unfair. Why wasn't I able to stomp the frog?
  10. Games giveaway

I thought Miffy OS 4.95 sounded familiar. Oh well...
  11. PL4YST4TION 4

Xbox One won the console war by 0.5 points. Quick, cancel your preorder.
  12. Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)

First video. Watch me lose all my health to easy enemies and then leap to my death for no reason at all. I turned off the background music to maximize the awkwardness. http://youtu.be/W1HjUXo0hrc
  13. Plug your shit

Mile High Brawl. Or more obvious Mile High Fight Club
  14. I Had A Random Thought...

Start with Aeropress and a manual coffee grinder (e.g. Hario Skerton). If you want to wave goodbye to your money you can buy Rancilio Silvia and Rocky or similar espresso machine + burr grinder combination.
  15. Your Favourite Book This Year (2013)

My absolute favorites this year are David Foster Wallace's Infinite Jest, which is also my reading achievement of the year, and Kurt Vonnegut's Bluebeard, which (I was delighted to find out) is one of his best novels. David Mitchell's The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet was excellent too, and a lot more "harmonious" than Cloud Atlas.
  16. Intoxicated:

    "Games Bro-se"
  17. I agree! If she turns out to be one of Chris' personas, as Sean suggested, I hope Chris will try to hide the fact from the others using a hilarious sitcom scheme. Also, anyone got a link to that Halloween robot costume?
  18. Gone Home from The Fullbright Company

http://thefullbrightcompany.com/2013/11/13/introducing-the-gone-home-record-collection-bundle/ I enjoy the fact that Chris' soundtrack is officially referred to as GH:OST.
  19. PL4YST4TION 4

They will probably update* the score after each financial quarter according to the current games line-up, changes in the price and the terms of service, and the potential Sony fuck-ups. *SimCity score seems to have stabilized to 6.5 now. Previous scores were 9.5, 8.0 and 4.0. Arkham Origins received an updated score of 7 on Wii U and 4 on PS3, X360, and PC but also 7 overall. And so on..
  20. Batman Origins

I think you just need a large group of regular enemies and to keep them separated from each other so that you can safely jump from one to another constantly. Maybe one of the combat training simulations would be ideal for that? I think I got that challenge before I even knew how the challenge system worked, and I imagine it would have been frustrating to try deliberately to achieve that. In my opinion, the challenge system is kinda dumb, especially the predator "path", and I'm more or less ignoring them at this point. Does a group finisher of n guys increase the combbo counter by n?
  21. Yeah Chris, you should at least shave before you start criticizing the use of mobile phones as lighter substitutes.
  22. Great guest! Jake, you can totally save in Stanley Parable, but you have to enable it in the options first. Which is a bit weird, actually.
  23. I second that. It is really really good! The best part, for me, is that the documentary might as well have been about competitive knitting* or something. I have never played the game, and so have no idea what the fuck was going on most (all) of the time. My enjoyment of the documentary would not have diminished one bit if all the CRTs (yeah!) were showing white noise and all the technical talk was bleeped. It was all about the people, and they all seemed really fascinating and, with a few exceptions, really friendly and cool guys. You should definitely check this out: * Poor example, actually, because that would probably have made a lot more sense to me.
