  1. Nick's ability to end up in these bizarre situation in video games continues to astonish me.
  2. The Witcher 3: What Geralt Wants

I think there is an option in the menu to turn off the QTEs, or at least some of them. I'm not sure if it affects the Kayran fight.
  3. The threat of Watch Dogs

There are missions in Watch underscore Dogs where you can avoid combat altogether, but others require you to kill the bad guys.
  4. Assassin's Creed: Mohawk

Assassin's Creed III is probably my least favorite game in the series (note: I have only played the "main" series, excluding Assassin's Creed I). The setting of the game simply did not really appeal to me and I found the main character supremely annoying at times. The crafting system was pretty much useless and not fun, and unless I missed something essential, the trading simply wasn't worth the effort because there were much easier ways to earn money. Building the homestead could have been interesting, but it was not. I spend a lot of time relatively early on on the homestead missions because I figured that I'd get cool weapons and armor, only to notice that the final tasks are locked to the progression in the main campaign. It's still an Assassin's Creed game, so if you enjoy those and especially if the setting appeals to you, it might still be worth a go. You can probably get it relatively cheap already. Assassin's Creed IV was a vast improvement on III in my opinion.
  5. The Witcher 3: What Geralt Wants

On my first playthrough I used the protective sign (Quen) all the time because I thought that would keep me alive. On my second playthrough I mainly just burned the shit out of my enemies using Igni. The latter tactic worked much better, but there was also a couple of years in between the two playthroughs so the developers might have released a couple of balance updates in the meantime
  6. The Witcher 3: What Geralt Wants

I also preferred the mouse and keyboard controls. I didn't have huge issues with the combat in The Witcher 2, but I'm definitely looking forward to the improvements they have talked about for The Witcher 3. I'm having a surprisingly hard time in deciding how to purchase this game. I want to support the developers (CD Projekt seems pretty awesome) as much as I can and those pre-order bonuses are pretty sweet, but I man it would be nice to have all my games in Steam library*. Then again if the GOG Galaxy client (Is it a client? I just realized that I actually know nothing about this thing) is relatively lightweight and does the necessary updating for me (quite painful in The Witcher 2 if I recall correctly), then I might just settle for that. The third option is to wait and see what the retail version includes. The Witcher 2 Premium edition (which was the standard retail edition) was pretty epic (papercraft not visible for some reason). * Obviously not going to happen because of Origin and Uplay and so on, but anyway.
  7. The Witcher 3: What Geralt Wants

I may have already asked this in the Witcher 2 thread, but can't remember the answer, so has anyone who has had issues with the controls tested this semi-official mod? http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2013/06/20/witcher-2-combat-mod/ If so, did it make the combat more bearable? Edit: Linked two pages ago by Codicier.. Oops.
  8. Licensed music usage

Yeah, the curated radio stations in games like GTA and Sleeping Dogs are basically the best thing. You learn to appreciate them a lot more when they are gone: In the dystopian present of Watch Dogs you are forced to create your own playlist or else listen to your stolen mp3s on shuffle.
  9. Did we exhaust the list of potential Wario characters already? Was Wawser mentioned already? Would he be a nice person or just different kind of evil?
  10. The rumor also has it that her manager was supposed to be Wallet Bill.
  11. Idle Thumbs Motorcycle Club

Also, the mobile version of that site should be about online multiplayer games.

    Was mo.today already taken?

God damn, that looks gorgeous! Edit: For the new page:
  14. The threat of Watch Dogs

I'm roughly halfway through the main plot at this stage. I'm still liking the gameplay quite a lot, especially the stealth hacking part. The missions have enough variety and they have been relatively frustration free (which is a nice surprise). I'm still worried that the game might turn into a shoot fest towards the end, but at least so far there has not been any real indication of that being the case. As you can expect from this type of game (which is pretty sad actually) the story is quite forgettable, and the open-world stuff definitely has its flaws. Still, I have thoroughly enjoyed the game so far.
  15. The threat of Watch Dogs

Can't wait for Nintendo to put out a Zelda game in which Link cannot jump. I can't really say I have missed jumping, at least not so far. Vaulting works perfectly fine for getting over fences and on top of ledges. This is not a Rayman game.
  16. The threat of Watch Dogs

Yes, that was the first complaint in the video.
  17. The threat of Watch Dogs

Lost me at "Can't jump at all" already. "No hammer animation for handguns"... Jesus.
  18. The threat of Watch Dogs

I'm only in chapter 2 so far, but I can already believe that this game is not about high-level critique on the surveillance state. Not that I was expecting that. What the game has done, however, is to perfect the urgency of story / amount of side-activities disconnect - at which they already did an impressive job in Far Cry 3 - by essentially saying "Your loved ones are in immediate danger - perhaps I can interest you in a chess problem or an online race?" Aside from the idiotic story, I'm actually enjoying the game so far. In my opinion, hacking is actually a valuable addition to this time of game. During infiltration missions, it offers a fun alternative to stealth (which is almost always find annoying - the notable exceptions being Dishonored and Deus Ex: Human Revolutions) during infiltration missions and a less stressful way of dealing with pursuers and pursuees during chases. How hacking works in infiltration missions is that you find a good cover (or better yet, stay outside the hostile area entirely), look for a security camera, and hack it. You can now move in the enemy compound by jumping from one camera to the next. Some enemies also carry cameras (their phones, I guess, unless they have mounted a GoPro camera on their forehead) which you can also hack and then lure them to places that you couldn't otherwise reach by causing a distraction (e.g. by overloading a switchbox or.. ehh.. hacking a forklift). In some cases you don't actually have to set foot in the enemy compound at all because you can hack the target system remotely as long as you can get a glimpse of it with one of the cameras. Even if you still have to go there, the hacking allows you to locate all of the enemies in the compound and, in many cases, kill most of them by luring them near something hazardous and then triggering it. The main difference to traditional stealth is that you are free to experiment with various schemes without a danger of immediately getting caught and killed if you fuck up - at worst the enemies will freak out and start sweeping up the place. Stealing valuable data and/or killing a dozen bad guys using only your mobile phone is, of course, quite stupid but also very satisfying and super fun.

  20. I love the horrified expression of the Google Self-Driving Car's face. I hope someone installs a "How am I driving?!" bumper sticker on all of them.

I got a copy with my new graphics card. I have only played it a couple of hours but I can already confirm that it is a triple-A open world game: you can run, shoot, drive, collect stuff, and play chess. So if you enjoy those kind of games, there is a good chance that you will enjoy this game as well. It is also an a Ubisoft game, so if you enjoy Uplay you will fucking love this experience. The PC version seems to have some stuttering problems at the moment (to no ones surprise, I guess) but that will hopefully be fixed at some point.

The new Jack White album will be out soon (June 10, I think). Can't wait! The previous album was excellent:
