  1. Annoying gaming news site headlines

RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 screams into stores Pure genious.
  2. Typography in games

I usually don't notice the fonts in games at all, except if they are very cheesy. And usually that has to do with terrible colour choices. ..Or if the makers missed something obvious. This screen from No One Lives Forever, for example, makes me want to scream "No! Make it again!" I mean, how can they choose not to use some groovy 60's-like font? Something similar to the font used in the title of the first game.... not the sequel. ---- I, for one, find it extremely hard to choose good fonts when I'm photoshopping or skinning. I have always hoped that people just don't pay attention to the fonts, but... well.. apparently some do.
  3. Let's all celebrate with new avatars!

What? Did my old avatar blink? I remember changing it for a while and when I tried to change it back I got an error about the board not allowing to upload animated avatars. It felt strange since I was almost certain that it was blinking before. But that was a long time ago, and since then the dot in my previous avatar has been permanently red. At least in my end. Now I'm very confused too.
  4. Let's all celebrate with new avatars!

I actually made this animation: ..Only to remind myself again that, for some reason, I can't upload animated avatars here. Would it be better if one of the spots was permanently red?
  5. Let's all celebrate with new avatars!

    Yea.. Lets go with this.
  6. I am posting this from my wii!

http://www.wiicade.com/ http://www.wiifii.net/ Don't know if there are any good games yet, though.
  7. I am posting this from my wii!

I'm not posting this from my Wii even though I could. Had no troubles downloading it and the browser is actually pretty nifty once you get used to it. It may not replace my PC but now I can at least waste my time on YouTube in my living room. Be careful. I think he's done taking names.
  8. Why spend money on advertisements when all the units (from this year's shipments at least) will get sold within minutes anyway? Most of the online-shops that took pre-orders can deliver the console in January/February even for those who pre-ordered the thing well(ish) before the launch.
  9. Would you rather...

I'd definitely rather die instantly. If I was to live forever, I would probably just lose all my limbs at some point and get stuck somewhere for the rest of my life.. in other words, forever. I don't own that many books, so I'd choose burning them, although wiping all my electric data wouldn't be that painful either. There are a couple of school books I need right now, but on the other hand I would probably get some strange satisfaction burning them, so that having to re-buy them wouldn't matter.
  10. The lawsuit and the device. Yes, the alleged copyright infringement isn't about motion sensoring technology.
  11. Painting my room

Your Monkey Island idea sounds good. The World's Largest Ball of Twine in Sam & Max: Hit the Road is one of my favorite places in video games and I'd love to see that recreated in non-digital form. I don't know how easy it would be to make it work on a wall though. Maybe if the Twine was in the right corner and the left side was mostly just grassy hills with Sam & Max's car cruising a bit further away. Then there's always Space invaders and Pacman.
  12. Xbox 360 vs PS3 (yawn?)

My favourite: Yea. Most of them don't look all that different. But who cares? PS3 is a supercomputer! Which means that you can calculate your own weather forecasts... and enjoy the universe in all four dimensions.
  13. Children of mana is shit

Explains why I had trouble remembering whether the game was Secret of Mana or Children of Mana. I was under the impression that the DS version was just the remake of the SNES one, thus having the same name.. Childret of Mana. Damn, I feel smart now.
  14. Children of mana is shit

How different are the DS and SNES version of the game? I thought the original was supposed to be one of the best SNES games of all time, while this apparently isn't that great. Is it because of time and crappy multiplayer game or are the games significantly different? (I'm still scarred because I ordered the game but never actually got it.)
  15. Wii titles?

Ordered Twilight Princess to go with my Wii. It seems to have done pretty well in reviews so far.
  16. Zune...

From what if have seen people don't think Apple is "this "honest" company that couldn't possibly do wrong". The "if you have bought music from iTunes you have to use iPod and vice versa" thing, for one, has constantly been brought up in both reviews and general mp3-player discussions. And the popularity of iPod alone has caused a strong anti-reaction. Some people even turn into these bizarre tech-preachers every time they see someone with a pair of white headphones. Also, I have a feeling that right now someone somewhere defends iPod against other's complaints (the aforementioned 90% of Zune ones that apply to iPod as well) saying that Microsoft's new player has exactly those same flaws but people don't complain about them because Apple is this big and evil company while Microsoft is the undertaker. (8GB Sandisk Sansa costs $50 less than Zune, is smaller in size, has a better battery life (and user replaceble battery), and has no moving parts, which could make it more durable. People who don't need more than 8GB for their stuff and know that they won't enjoy watching videos on 3-inch screen (in other words, use the player mainly for playing music), could save some money and pocket space if they decided to go with Sansa. What I'm trying to say is that you can't choose which mp3-player is better than another just by doing a price-capacity-screensize comparison.)
  17. Zune...

I'm well aware of the technical differenses. The fact that there may not be many (Cowon iAudio X5L (30GB), for example, seems to have a rated battery life of 35 hours) harddrive mp3-players that have a better battery life than that of Zune's, doesn't change a thing: I still find the battery life of this player very unimpressive. In other words, I think that most of the hdd-based mp3-players have a very unimpressive battery life, Zune (and Ipod) included. (and btw, Sandisk Sansa e280 (8GB) costs about $200 in most stores. Not a big deal but it's good to keep the facts right in facts-right-comments.)
  18. Zune...

"Wireless Cocaïne sharing." Finally.. Those headbanging birds are excellent. I have a feeling that sharing music with Zune won't be as cool, though. I like the big screen and radio, but the 14-hour battery life for music playback is very unimpressive. By comparison, my Samsung Z5F has a rated battery life of 39 hours (or 44 hours after the latest firmware update), which, I agree, is almost impossible to reach but one can get close to that. It's also very strange that Zune doesn't support PlayForSure content. Looks like a pretty nice player nevertheless.
  19. Movie/TV recommendations

I don't understand how they are going to make it work in two parts either. Is there really enough climax for the end of the first movie in the book? I read it long time ago so I don't remember much of it.
  20. Firefox 2.0

And if the stop button feels dull this is the one to check.
  21. Firefox 2.0

Sorry. I forgot that. I'm using this version: http://tmp.garyr.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3515
  22. Firefox 2.0

You can customize how the tab bar works (including the middle click actions) with Tab Mix Plus extension.
  23. Link's "Wii" Adventure!

Whoa.. The quality of that clip is really impressive. Nice! Also, didn't realize that you actually have to rotate the nunchuck to retrieve the line. Seems to work really well, though.
  24. Mario Galaxies: Excited or Not?

The last Mario game I have played is Super Mario World (well, technically Yoshi's Island) and I'm totally intrigued and excited about this game. For some reason it feels very Mario-like (could be because of the guy with a red hat) and I actually like the galaxy theme. You don't even have to be very creative to make some interesting things with gravity and orbitting and such. The game looks very playable too.
  25. Movie/TV recommendations

Has anyone seen "A Prairie Home Companion"? The reason I'm asking this is that the actual Finnish translation of the title is "Robert Altman's Bad Jokes".
