Today was my last of work for the summer. I really liked the place and I'm glad I can probably go back next summer. The uni starts soon and I have slight problems with course planning. Hopefully the lecturer answers my email soon so I don't have to live in uncertainty. All good, though.

There are two of three camera distances to choose from. Not sure if it's the closest one by default. The angle will remain the same though. Try pressing select or whatever, and if that doesn't help, all the other buttons.

"There is no uncanny valley any more," declares French developer

http://kotaku.com/5039720/heres-how-heavy-rains-controls-work Ok.. Is it just me or did that sound confusing as hell? -
Of these smaller game I have only bought Audiosurf and Pixeljunk Eden so far. Both of which have easily provided more than their money's worth of entertainment for me. I'm also really looking forward to the PC version of Braid. I think this is indeed one of the most pleasant things that has happened in the games industry for a while.

I actually meant a lame political statement on how an American guy is suddenly the Prince of Persia, but it works that way as well.

Ability to look around is certainly an improvement if it will really be used to look for blunt objects to hit the yellow AI things or whatever with. Hopefully they won't add looking at different directions to their list of dance moves and will actually let players do something themselves this time. I sound overly pessimistic as always, but I still really hope this game will end up being good. -
Yeah. Truly shitty choice of voice and dialogue. Maybe it's a statement of some short? The art direction is pretty nice however. The douche doesn't react to the environment nearly as convincingly as in Uncharted and the double jumps look just stupid though. Didn't the developers say that the players can roam freely or something? Or at least choose from multiple paths and return to areas you have already visited? If so, I have a feeling that it could be confusing as hell without a really good map and compass system, seeing that, as far as I understood, all that jumping after the first enemy encounter led to them getting one storey up of their location before the attack.

I thought Hashshashin were essentially famous for their public assassinations. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hashshashin

I'm not sure whether this thread was more about uncanny valley or heavy rain, but the new trailer only features the latter. (They are probably just gathering speed for their leap way back.) Nevermind that. The action is handled in a disappointingly unsurprising manner though. -
That is brilliant!

My bad then. Anyway, congrats!

What? I thought you got your own apartment about a year ago?

Finally went to see the movie yesterday. I'm not a big fan of super heroes (which, apparently, Batman is not, as mentioned several times in the movie), and I was there mainly for the Joker which is a very intriguing character, in my opinion. The film was good enough and Heath Ledger sure did an excellent job as a Joker with all the uncertainty and unpredictability in his movements and a hint of insanity in his tone. I'm so happy they made him the agent of chaos (as the Joker points out himself) and not just a clown. However, I was expecting a bit more from Joker's dialogue. There were good moments, sure, but then there were really lame ones. For instance.. I think that with a bit more effort from the writers' part it could have been a bit more "deep" and less "stating the obvious". And then there was this whole mess with... All in all, that character was without a doubt the worst part of the movie for me, but I'm afraid I can't fully explain why. At least I tried. One of my minor complaints about the movie, as you may have already noticed reading this, is how it tends to underline meaningful things. In a way, I would have liked to be allowed to discover them myself.. BTW. Even though I focused on negative things, I didn't hate the movie. I liked the dark tone and loved Joker and the level of "abstraction" that someone already pointed out. If I had just watched a complete piece of shit I would be pointing out the shiny pieces of stone I had found in it.

Cool! Is there a list of all things new somewhere, or should we discover them ourselves? Also, the profile page looks a bit fucked up at least in Mac Firefox 3 and Safari.

Welcome all you sellers of nothing!

Yeah. My friend is actually afraid to buy new games for his xbox in a fear of it scratching the game discs again*. Which is kind of bizarre situation.. *He sent it to be repaired only to hear that they just changed the motherboard.

Finally Double Fine posted some information about the status of Brütal Legend. Move the cursor and you'll miss it.

I have never played Fallout games and had neither a good or a bad hunch about Fallout 3 until I saw this video some time ago. It really does seem rubbish. The environmental graphics look decent if you don't look too close, but there is little else that captures my attention, in a good way. I wonder how much less crap the combat would have looked like if they had done it 100% fps in the first place. Now it's just stupid. Also, how can a big budget game in 2008 feature a sentry bot that only slides a couple of meters downhill when you hit it with a rocket launcher? How can a developer walkthrough of a big budget game in 2008 feature a sentry bot that only slides a couple of meters downhill when you hit it with a rocket launcher?

The first screenshot made me instantly think of Worms as well. There were challenges (or whatever they were called) in, at least, Worms Armageddon that had you collect stuff using only the ninja rope. I can't believe how fun they turned out to be.
-
That was a really crappy way to start a day. Seriously, Spyro?! And.. well, pretty much all of games that made it?! It's almost like they got the two lists mixed up somehow. EDIT: Ghostbuster won't be cancelled. Hopefully Double Fine will soon confirm that Brütal Legend isn't either.

Oh.. That was almost too simple. I wonder why they couldn't just put it in the European store as well if their region restriction (at least for the free stuff) is that easy to bypass. Thanks for the tip!
-
This might be a real dumb question but is there a way to download US store games in Europe?
-
Remember to let them know as well. Shame this had to go like that.

The graphics look good (with an exception of people it seems) but I got to say I really dislike the visual style. I understand that most people will probably picture a futuristic greatly monitored city to look like that, overly bright and clean, but it doesn't change the fact that I'd still much rather spend 10+ hours* of running and essentially looking at the scenery in a different kind of environment. Also, I'd imagine that I would be in a terrible hurry most of the time, something I really dislike in most video games. I hate being in a hurry in real life and I hate it even more when I have to make a puppet act humanlike at the same time just so that it can be in a hurry as well. So yeah, this game might not be for me, but I will definitely check out the demo if there will be one. Hopefully it will prove me wrong. *based on nothing at all EDIT: Nice touch on the main pages "Recent forum activity" panel.
