That Star Wars/Macgyver thing was very well done, yet I felt something was missing. Took me a while to realize that it was, of course, the baffling ice cream scene.

Seems quite appropriate when you think of it, really. After all, according to The Bible (by God, dictated but not read) Jesus was a convicted criminal, and his arrest, trial and punishment play an important role in our Easter tradition already.

Open the pictures in different tabs or something and switch back and forth. Pretty good work there. -
Idle Thumbs 25: Pause Theme from Battletoads
Nappi replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
Yeah, I also enjoy getting achievements as a sort of reward for doing cool but otherwise pointless things. This has rarely happened to me, though. Some achievements can also be semi-interesting challenges (a bit stupid example but Burnout Paradise achievements/awards actually made me seek out a place to perform a double barrel roll) themselves but, as mentioned, they could usually just as well be actual challenges. Majority of the achievements I have encouraged are crap though. Also, um.. cool. Thanks. Should I give my address to someone or will that creepy thing locate me on its own somehow? -
Well, while digging for an answer to the GHIII PS3 Les Paul issue I mentioned in the previous post, I came across a couple of topics complaining that Guitar Hero: World Tour PS3 drums are not working properly with Rock Band either. So you should at least investigate a bit before going with the GH peripherals (with PS3 version that is).

I bought the Guitar Hero III PS3 controller a while ago for 19 euros and have been playing Frets on Fire on my Mac to improve my skills so that I don't have to completely embarrass myself in potential parties or other events that might involve playing Guitar Hero or Rock Band. Now I'm considering buying one of the actual games, and I'm leaning towards Rock Band 1 or 2 on PS3. However, it seems that GHIII PS3 Les Paul is the only fucking thing that is not cross-compatible! Does anyone know whether this is still the case since the most recent news I have seen are dated over year ago? There was supposed to be a compatibility patch but Activision apparently blocked it or something, and I haven't found an up-to-date compatibility chart to confirm or deny this. If it really isn't compatible, should I just settle for Guitar Hero: World Tour (which will cost me something like 30 euros) or should I invest in one of the Rock Band games and a controller? I'm not interesting in neither drumming (at the moment at least) nor singing (never). Edit: seems like it might have been patched.

Sounds awesome! Congrats! (if that isn't an april fools joke as well) -
No, I don't... erm.. Maybe it was... hmm.. eh.. Forget it. ------ Btw, I was thinking of buying this book. has anyone tried it?

There have been a lot of interesting books I've been meaning to read but between my studies and all the other more or less important things I have never found the time or energy to actually do that. However, I recently realized that I might just as well do what I did as a kid: listen to audio books before going to bed. I just finished Douglas Adams Hitchhiker's trilogy (which I have read before) and continued with Richard Dawkins' The God Delusion. I'll be looking for suggestions in this thread as I have pretty much forgotten all the books I once wanted to read.

GDC 09: The Two Most Glorious Images You Will Ever See
Nappi replied to Alex P's topic in Idle Banter
Glorious images indeed! Will that paper be released in a digital form? -
Oh wow.. It all makes sense now. It's a mom and kids squeeze thing. Also, this doesn't take Coriolis effect into account and needs to be updated.

Idle Thumbs 23: At the Mountains of Money

I'm usually not interested in DLC but I don't mind it either when it actually means additional content and not something that should have been there in the first place. Even before seeing the iPhone event example, my worst nightmare was a ridiculously hard level with no save points where you have to escape hordes of zombies or whatever unarmed. When you finally end up in a room and find a weapon you get the "Would you like to purchase this shotgun for 99c?" message. Also, being forced to the unlock new weapons with achievements in TF2 doesn't bother me, but I probably wouldn't buy a game that made me pay extra just to get the rest of the guns everyone is using. Great episode guys! The inevitable Haw song was fantastic as were the puffins! -

That magnetic field and gravitational pull bullshit was pretty awesome.

I actually have never tried it. It's just not my cup of tea I guess. I'd imagine I would get my ass kicked, though. Not just because I'm used to pausing but also because I tend to take things slow anyway.
-
I'm constantly pausing in games like Company of Heroes and (less frequently) Total War. I find it a lot more satisfying be able to use "advanced" tactics that require you to control multiple units at once than to play the game strictly in real time. It also feels a bit frustrating that some of your units basically have to stand still just because you can't can't control them all at once while the opponent doesn't have this limitation. Also, I think I might be a bit slow.

Idle Thumbs 22: Put On the Top Ghost
Nappi replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
Yeah. I just hadn't encountered a title before where this had been such big and clear an issue. With all the multiplayer unit balancing and stuff like that it just seemed "unfair" and some of the players very pretty frustrated. That said, I didn't encounter any big bugs or glitches in my single player experience (maybe in part because of this exact thing). -

Shame to hear about buggy Empire: Total War. It is also pretty interesting in one way: I remember reading someone from Creative Assembly explaining that the reason Rome: Total War (and possibly Medieval: Total War) patch taking so long because "they had to make it right the first time". I understood they could only release one or two patches (possibly because of the publisher?) at the time and I thought it was just crap. On the other hand, that obviously forced them to try a bit harder. -
The new puzzle mechanics seem overly complicated making it too hard to plan your and the opponent's moves ahead. Not sure if that really is the case though. That said, I'm playing the Puzzle Quest on iPhone right now and the game sure could have used some more variety.

However misleading, by one interpretation time is still quite commonly referred to being the "fourth dimension", even though its role is quite different from that of the three spatial dimensions. Fourth dimension of Euclidean space is, of course, a completely different thing. Not sure how this is relevant though. Marketing people don't care.

Could you uncrumple barrels in Thief: The Dark Project?

How does the campaign work btw? Is there three different campaign maps for Europe, America and India? Does the "big" campaign differ in map size? If they are separate, how are the colonies and the mother country connected? For example, if you are playing the Indian campaign are you affected by things that might happen (historically or by some kind of randomization) in the mother country?
