I saw Green Day and Rock Band in the same sentence while going through my RSS feeds, and thought "Green Day DLC? Why, that's not very interes..." and proceeded to the next item. Green Day Rock Band, though?

It wasn't the absurdity or the supernatural stuff itself that bothered me so much (although some of it felt a bit unnecessary and lazy or even stupid), but the execution. In my opinion, the rastafarian fish monkeys in Moai Better Blues, for instance, were just plain bad, as was the wobbly thing in the Ice-Station Santa. I'm actually hoping that they will release a non-episodic adventure game, soon. It would be nice to be able to explore a larger area at once for a change.

The first thing I thought of when I saw the thread was "Whose turn is it to post that video?" Also, scrollbar on OS X Firefox.

I just noticed the audio clips. The last one ("No longer can you blindly mash buttons.." one) does indeed seem to imply that there might be some changes in gameplay. Either that or it is just a confusing way of saying that this time you will be fighting for "higher purpose". What do you think?

As I have mentioned before, I didn't like the overall theme of Season 1 (and probably Season 2 as well, had I played it for more than two episodes) that much and really disliked some of the more "supernatural" stuff like the Lincoln head and the rastafarian fish monkeys. There were a lot of great moments as well, though, so I'm kind of looking forward to this. I don't know what to make of the potential space theme of the new season. On the one hand, it could mean that Sam and Max finally get far enough from the Soda Poppers (are they still alive, by the way?). On the other hand, there could be a lot of awkward space creatures instead. Actually, you can ignore everything I said before:

Bunch of Django Reinhardt albums were featured on the front page of Spotify yesterday so I picked one collection and one song at random to check what they were like. The song immediately reminded me of the great game Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven. After listening to some more, it turned out that of the 20 vol. collection with about 13 tracks on each, I had accidentally picked a song that was actually in the game. Some luck. Anyway, the song was Echoes Of France and I wish Mafia II would be out soon.

I recently discovered that Melvins and Ufomammut albums aren't exactly ideal background music for studying, so I decided to try something completely different. I've been skimming through the artists on Spotify not-very-systematically at all and have thus far at least somewhat enjoyed the RJD2 instrumentals, Kid Loco and Tosca. The problem is that I don't really know where I should be looking for. Can someone recommend something easy, not too distracting and not shit to listen to while reading a course book or something like that?

I bought it a while ago already. Didn't you see the receipt? God, you don't care about your customers at all, do you?

I really hope this proves to be the game I have been waiting for since Desperados. Looks pretty great so far.

In case you didn't already lose all your money during the Black Friday through Cyber Monday sales, Direct2Drive is having some sort of Christmas calendar thingy with new game each day. I don't know why exactly I've been hunting for bargains so intensively of late. The only thing I bought during the weekend was Monkey Island remake just to have bought something. I hope I will soon realize what I have been looking for all this time.

In case you missed the Friday discount on Steam, Arkham Asylum is now 17.5 pounds (or about 19.2 euros) on Direct2Drive.

I'm already used to 10$ being 10€ on Steam but it being 15€ now is a bit too much for me. The boxed copy of Far Cry 2 is probably cheaper than that by now. Still, some interesting deals there.

Somehow, I thought this topic was for the gods. The video looks pretty neat, though. Have not seen the movie.

About a week ago I got an email from the institute of metrology in my university saying that they were looking for an intern. I applied for the job the following day to see what they had to offer and if I was the person they had been looking for. The interview was later scheduled for today. Turned out it wasn't exactly the regular job interview I was expecting and after about 2.5 hours (most of which was spent on a laboratory tour) I actually got the place along with an interesting subject for my upcoming bachelor's thesis. I'm pretty pleased with myself right now.

Whether you call it plagiarism, homage or just being inspired by a classic, almost every scene on the Japanese trailer reminds me of Zelda (A Link to the Past to be exact). Yet, the game somehow manages to not appeal to me in any level. I don't find the graphical direction very interesting and for some reason I have a feeling that there might not be much else going for it. I mean, underneath the blocky graphics the experience probably won't be anything like that of the Zelda games I love so much (which is an unfair comparison to begin with, I guess). And even if the story was good interesting and the gameplay solid, I feel that the strong graphical direction would still distract me enough to not enjoy those parts of the game to their fullest. This is all based on nothing at all, of course. (God, I suck at expressing how I feel about something sometimes.)

I can? Awesome! For some reason I was almost certain that this wouldn't be possible and didn't even bother to check.

Before it was released, I thought that Assassin's Creed would pretty much be the most awesome game ever. I was very disappointed when the reviewers and, more importantly, my friends who had bought the game told me otherwise. For some reason I ended up not even trying the game myself. Now, although it supposedly fixes most of the original game's flaws, I'm much less interested in actually buying the sequel. I'm not sure if the novelty has just worn off on me or if it's the different setting that is not working for me or something else entirely. There is nothing wrong with Italy itself as a setting (looks pretty great), but I absolutely hate the idea of having Leonardo da Vinci as my personal weaponsmith or whatever, and the Ezio's voice acting is just awful to me. I will probably still buy the game eventually this time around, though.

Watching the video review on Gametrailers made me remember how much I loved Super Mario World, but didn't make me that interested in this game. Now that I watched the Giant Bomb video, I think I actually have to get this one. The co-opish gameplay looked like great fun and I could probably play that with, at least, my sister. She liked LittleBigPlanet multiplayer but wished the controls were more like those in Super Mario World. There might also be something weird going on in my brain, as the first thing that came to my mind when I considered buying this game was that if I won't let my Wii gather dust for all eternity, Nintendo has won somehow, and I can't let that happen. The last Wii game I bought was Super Mario Galaxy when it was released.

Them Crooked Vultures (with Josh Homme from Queens of The Stone Age, Dave Grohl from Foo Fighters and John Paul Jones from Led Zeppelin) have put their upcoming album on Youtube, if anyone here is interested in these sort of things. Also available on Luisterpaal.

Yup, telephone became popular pretty fast after Bell's patent in 1876. There were said to be about 30 thousand subscribers in US by 1880 and over a million at the turn of the century. You could even listen to the latest news through telephone in 1893 (in Budapest at least). I read a short history of telegraph and telephone literally 15 minutes ago... Minesweeper adventure game could be nice. I'm not expecting too much from it at this point, though.
