The secret was far more sinister than any of us could have imagined.

As far as I can tell it was a huge success. Great to hear news about the basic Limbo as well. I really hope to see this on a machine I own.

The concept art makes it seem like a combination of Myst and one of those Japanese (?) flash games where you are supposed to figure out how to get out of the room you wake up in. The Witness will likely be more interesting than that, though.

I have never lost anything significant in a hard drive failure, but when the Time Machine failed on my network drive some time ago (like it apparently does for fucking everyone), I realized that I wouldn't enjoy loosing all the files I have on my computer and started worrying a bit. Now I have all the important stuff on my computer, usb drive (Time Machined) and network storage. Some of the less important stuff is only on two of those. The files I consider extremely important are also kept on my usb stick and network storage at work. Also, I don't have TBs of data so it's pretty easy for me to actually keep that many backups. Do you have multiple destinies or just one?

How much is that Batman video game in euros, by the way? I can't be bothered to boot up in Windows, let alone install the client, just to see that it is 19,90€* or something. *Edit: especially since it seems to be 19,90$ on GamersGate.

I was kind of expecting hoping that they would show a glimpse of hexagonal tiles at the end of the trailer because that is how trailers seem to work nowadays. Great trailer, though! The game, from the little we have seen, looks beautiful too and will no doubt be a total timesink.

Yup. One would think that they could at least come up with a couple of new cool weapons for every new installment and a new game mode or a gameplay mechanic every now and then. It really does seem that they have got it all wrong and are removing stuff instead, which is a real shame. I probably wouldn't pay the price of new full game for a remake of Armageddon, as I still have it laying around somewhere. I definitely wouldn't pay the price of new full game for a lite version of Armageddon, as it would just be dumb.

I guess it's just easier not to make a new video game. Still, I might be up for HD worms if they do it right. The last 2D one I played Worms Armageddon and it has been too long. Does anyone know if there are "story" missions in the console version? Those were surprisingly awesome in Armageddon at least.

Awesome! Shake a baby for emotion.

I really like the shape of Logitech mice as well. I used to have MX518 but I broke it some time ago and replaced it with MX620. I guess that one is not for the hardcore gamerz, though, as it is wireless and uses laser and whatever. Ahh, the fabled Saitek Cyborg mouse. For all I know, it doesn't even exist.

I was measuring the luminous flux and luminous efficacy of various lamps (incandescent, halogen, CFL an LED) with an integrating sphere. I work at the laboratory of metrology at my university at the moment and the data is actually for my bachelor's thesis.

A while ago, I realized that if I didn't expect too much, or nothing at all, from this game I might actually find it somewhat entertaining, at least in an average CSI episode kind of way. Then I played the demo. The controls were absolutely horrible and didn't feel natural at all. Every little thing felt like a chore. The fact that there are actual choses as well makes it even worse. I simply can't imagine launching this game on Saturday morning just to guide some FBI agent up a slope for five minutes while I could be spending all that time stabbing people in the back and face in non-rainy Venice. As the plot, it seems, isn't very strong either and as I don't find the structure all that new or interesting, I think I'm going to skip this one, at least for the time being, and concentrate on something that doesn't make me miserable because I can't eat spaghetti while I actually can.

I spent 6 hours of my day in almost complete darkness listening to The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes and only moving every 30 minutes or so. I found it very pleasant actually. And I got paid for it so .

No. I still watch House, though. One of the only things I watch on TV nowadays.

With Natal you can molest people in your living room.

EA Presents: Robinson Gruesome

Thanks guys! Got tired of waiting for an answer after 10 minutes or so and downloaded The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes audiobook on Gutenberg. I think I'll check that out first and then probably continue with Study in Scarlet if I still feel like it. The lack of Holmes in The Hound of Baskervilles makes it less interesting for me.

While we are at it, which Sherlock Holmes book should I begin with? Preferably something detectivy. Are the novels significantly different from the short stories? Better or worse? And so forth.
-
I haven't read any Sherlock Homes books, so I don't know if this post is worth anything, but I would still recommend you to read/listen at least one Hercule Poirot novel to see how you like them. I think I listened to pretty much all of them (a couple of times) when I was a kid. Quality entertainment.

I didn't have any problems with it gameplaywise and I actually liked it a lot up until the point I . I just hadn't played the original game, didn't give a crap about the "other" story and disliked how little the ending had to do with more than 90 percent of the game. I didn't feel like I was controlling Desmond controlling Ezio at any point of the game; I was very much playing as that Florentian guy all the time. Yet, in the final act . Not having played the first game, it seemed to me that Ubisoft was trying very little to make me interested in the background story all the way to the end and then fully expect me to be excited as fuck about everything that was going on. I also really dislike stuff in games that don't benefit from it in any way, something that I have probably ranted about enough in other threads already. I can't imagine Assassin's Creed II, for instance, being any less enjoyable if they had removed the entire other plot and made .

I completed a game, video game! It was Assassin's Creed II and I enjoyed the whole experience immensely*. Definitely my game of the year 2009. Is the Forli DLC worth buying, by the way? *Except maybe for the final part which I didn't care too much for. Still, it was far from ruining the game for me.
