The Idle Thumbs Podcast Episode 4: Super Expert Pro
Nappi replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
I would definitely buy a t-shirt with a truck flying off a ridge that said "Space asshole". I would buy it in pink and I would wear it. -
It's Russian, which makes sense I guess.

Gameplaywise I'm a lot more interested in this game than the previous Splinter Cells. I don't have a 360, however, and I doubt this will run well on my laptop, so I guess I'll have to pass this one as well. Too bad. Holy Jesus, though.

So, it would be fair to call the game hardcore then? Sorry to hear that your computer exploded, though. Too bad I don't like monsters in video games. Metro 2033 seems interesting in many ways and I'd probably love to watch someone else play it. However, I would actually have preferred players having to use a real watch instead of an in-game one. It would have been nice to hear how Chris, having not saved in ages, would realize how Jake, bored of not playing video games, had been tampering with his watch and that he actually had only 15 seconds or so to take cover and how Nick, afraid that one of them might broke down at critical moment, would keep buying watches until he couldn't pay his rent anymore. Too bad it wouldn't actually work too well because the players could pause the game at any time. They could easily take that feature away, though.

YOU CAN?!1 All I ever wanted to do was to turn off the cell phone in GTA IV. I probably should have tried to do that too. But yeah, I really like the idea of mini games such as the vulture shooting that you can (probably) launch pretty much anywhere anytime.
-
With both this and Mafia II coming out, 2010 might be my free roaming game year of the decade. The game does indeed look better with each trailer and I will probably enjoy shooting people and animals alike in the face immensely. I fucking hated my cell phone in GTA IV. It made it very difficult for me to just drive over people and enjoy the scenery or whatever.

Sounds like an awesome game for someone other than me.

While I already know winning the Oscar for Best Picture and Best Director doesn't mean the movie will actually be any good, The Hurt Locker still managed to be incredibly disappointing. The plot wasn't particularly strong and the central theme didn't really do it for me. I was constantly waiting for the movie to "go somewhere" to justify me actually sitting down and watching it, but that never happened. I hate to sound like a typical brick (which I by all means am) but my main complaint with the movie is how incredibly stupid some of the stuff that was going on was. I'm sure the Internet has already made a list of all those things, but here are some of my favourites: and so on. I usually don't give a fuck if a character limps with a wrong leg or if there is a Toyota in the Middle Earth, but this movie was full of these WTF moments and they made the story and the characters feel very un-real for me. Many of the things can't even be explained by the characters being unexperienced, scared or dumb since one would still expect them to have some basic survival instincts. I'm not trying to piss on the Oscar winner just for the sake of it. I honestly didn't get this movie. I did like the super slow motion of the rust on the cars roof, however.

Yeah, I was a bit surprised that they "went there" with the bear trap. Reminds me a bit of . In more ways than just the death scenes actually.

Some gameplay footage Looks really nice but I do hope there is some kind of gameplay "twist" to make things a bit more interesting.

Yey! Guybrush actually looks a lot more Guybrushy this time around (although, weirdly enough, not so much Monkey Island 2 Guybrushy). Also, yey! Old graphics with voiceovers! New puzzles? Yey, maybe. I ended up buying the first special edition on Steam when it was really cheap, but I haven't actually played it yet. This one seems definitely more interesting and I really hope it doesn't end up being crap.

Yeah, looking back at it, my previous comment was a complete mess. What I meant to say was that OS X versions of the (Orange box) games being "free" makes sense because a lot of developers already give you both Windows and OS X versions without any additional costs: many of the indie studios, Telltale Games, and as far as I can remember even Warcraft III had both versions on the disk. Until now, however, if I were to buy (most often an indie) game like for instance World of Goo on Steam, I couldn't transfer that purchase to my Mac even if that was possible with a version bought directly from the developers website. Of course, and unlike I wrote on the previous post, that is not the only case where you don't get both versions with the price of one, as there are a ton of games, such as Civilization IV and Sims and so on, that have to be purchased separately. I was hoping this to solve the problem with games like World of Goo and Braid where you can't transfer your CD key to the OS X version only because Steam handles things differently. This obviously won't make the Mac version of Civilization IV free for those who already own the game on PC.
-
Yeah, makes perfect sense. I guess the only case where it doesn't work like that anymore is when you buy indie games on Steam and can't transfer the purchase to Mac version because of the different CD Key system or whatever. That has happened to me quite a lot and annoys the crap out of me. I guess this could finally change that as well. So, yay.
-
Oh wow! I wonder if that works for games I have purchased before this announcement. So will I get OS X version of the Orange Box free of (additional) charge? On the other hand, this really sucks, since thus far I have been able to limit my PC gaming while I should be studying just because I usually can't be arsed to boot my computer up in Windows.

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past must be the game I have finished more often than any other game (with a plot and structure). Yet, I have ever actually played it, controller in hand, for 2 hours max. I didn't suck at it and I wasn't afraid of it, I just preferred someone else play it. So I watched either my sister or my friend complete the game for, what, four or five times. I enjoyed it a lot too and never actually thought I would gain anything if I was the one pushing the button swinging the sword. It felt perfectly natural to me and even my friend didn't find it strange that I barely even touched a game that (my sister and) I owned. It was just like playing any other single player SNES game we owned except that we didn't swap controllers at any point. While there was seemingly no reason for me not to play Zelda back then, there is a reason why I don't play a lot of games but would still like to see them played: I hate scary crap that jumps at you and tries to rape your skull or bite your head off or whatever. That is why I have never actually played a Resident Evil or Silent Hill game or even Bioshock. I would still very much like to see someone else play them, though. I don't know anyone to do that with, however, and I don't think I would be able to enjoy just watching someones playthrough on video. God damned I miss playing video games with someone actually sitting next to me and swapping the controller every now and then. Or not swapping the controller every now and then, I guess.

Amazing! That kid's room turret is the best! Also this: Can't wait!

Yea, I'm not saying it is easy, nor that I could do it any better. I'm just saying that there's a huge difference between the recordings and live performances when it comes to singing. Like so: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r3FLiDvLmjY (This is still one of their better performances.) (This ain't. Sounds pretty horrible without Homme if you ask me.) Anyway, sorry for the offtopic. Today, I did not join a local metal band. I have never even considered doing so, for that matter.
-
Mastodon is cool but the singing sounds really bad on majority of the live videos. That is actually one of the better ones I have seen. Nothing special has happened in my life since my last post. I still enjoy working in a place where my input appreciated and I'm trusted with tasks that require a bit more than than punching numbers in some program or whatever.

I really like how there are free audiobook versions of many of the public domain books nowadays. The reader, of course, has a lot to do with the enjoyability of the whole experience, and it seems that some of the books are ruined by 9 different readers, most of which are really bad. I've listened to The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes and A Study in Scarlet so far and the reader in those (audiobooksforfree.com one, I think) was excellent, in my opinion. He seems to have read The Return of Sherlock Holmes and The Hound of Baskervilles as well, so I'm looking forward to those. I also downloaded The Invisible Man by H.G. Wells and The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka. It seems that both of those have decent enough reader as well. A little offtopic: When I was looking for good cover images to go with the mp3 files I had just downloaded, I began to feel like I was doing something illegal while I actually was not. So that was a little weird. I guess I'm too used to everything not being free or something.

I recently discovered Kammerflimmer Kollektief and, to my slight surprise, have been enjoying it quite a lot. Here's the latest album on Luisterpaal, and a song that kinda reminds me of Machinarium on Youtube.

It seems that you can still keep looking for clues about the upcoming Portal related announcement, as there are bunch of underlined letters in Portal 2 announcement: http://store.steampowered.com/news/3559/

You have to click the edit button twice to get it to work. Don't do that, though. Classic evil corporation behavior from Activision there.

new game! http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/62662 Holy shit: "a stand-alone, full-price retail release"
