Games I have played pretty far, but have stopped playing for one reason or another: GTA IV Episodes from Half-Life 2 Hitman: Blood Money Empire: Total War Metal Gear Solid 4 Uncharted Uncharted 2 Torchlight Red Alert 3 Games I bought because they were on sale but didn't really have time to play that much earlier because of my studies: Flotilla (beat it several times) Trials 2 Trine Zombie Driver Civilization IV Complete Tropico 3 Far Cry 2 Games I would like to play: Batman: Arkham Asylum Red Dead Redemption So I guess I know what I will be doing this summer. Some of the games, such as Torchlight, are easy to jump right back into. I have a feeling that if I'm ever going to back to GTA IV for instance, I would have to replay it from the beginning.

So I finally bought this game Far Cry 2. My mind has already been blown multiple times. However, there is one thing that really annoys me about the game: the ridiculous enemy respawn rate. It so stupid that guard posts are fully occupied again after you 5 minutes and 500 m walk. Has anyone found a way to slow respawn times in the PC version?

Looks like there is some God of War 3 stuff going on in there with giants on the background and flying things you can use as handles. Then again, I have never actually played a Prince of Persia game. Nor one from God of War series for that matter. Didn't enjoy prince's witty comments in the other trailer (or was it the preview) too much though.

Fantastic movie, btw! It's about a man in handcuffs escaping. There are some musical numbers as well.

Awesome! New Ufomammut, UNKLE, The National and The Dead Weather albums were released this week. Haven't actually bought any of them yet, but at least UNKLE's Where Did The Night Fall sounds really nice (luisterpaal link).

 Fantastic.

Prague is a fantastic city with lots to see: Prague Castle, St. Vitus Cathedral, Charles Bridge, Old Town, the old Jewish quarter and so on. Really beautiful place and I can heartily recommend it. Other than that, I haven't really traveled that much in mainland Europe. I went to Lisbon a couple of years ago. It was a nice city but I still liked Prague more. The Lake Garda area in Italy is beautiful and relaxing place, but you'll find a lot of activity there as well if you go looking for it. Not sure how easy it would be to fit into an InterRail plan, though.

Played through half of Portal with my Macbook Pro. It runs pretty well with the default settings but I can't seem to make it look as nice as in Windows. I wonder whether Apple will update their graphics card drivers for OS X some time in the near future now that there are games that would actually need them*. *Yeah yeah.. there were games for Mac before Steam, too.

The last Sam & Max episode I played was Moai Better Blues and I didn't enjoy it very much. I'm so glad that, encouraged by the Scoggins deal, I still decided to purchase this season. Penal Zone was fresh! The actual beginning (after the spaceship part) was the best thing ever. This is probably my favorite Telltale Games episode yet. The city was fantastic and it felt great spending most of the episode in an ordinary setting. I really hope Sam & Max will not spend the next four episodes in space or whatever.

Good thing they finally got it released. Now, why the fuck is my HDD root full of folders such as friends, graphics, package, public, resource, servers and steam? This is horrible. EDIT: OK, so I just removed them. So far so good.

That Two Handed Great Sword video was pretty painful for all the wrong reasons. That is one awesome CEO, though.

Anybody played the Autumn Moon's Ghost Pirates of Vooju yet? Seems to be available as a digital purchase now. The visuals, especially the backgrounds, look pretty great, at least, and it looks like it could be a fun little adventure game.

Not sure if it has already been mentioned, but Direct2Drive is having a Spring Sale for some time still. Mass Effect 1+2 for 23.5 pounds and so on.

They got me at FBI's Department of Puzzle Investigation. Also, that discount is pretty crazy. I guess I'll be buying Sam & Max Season 3 now. EDIT: So I bought Puzzle Agent, Sam and Max The Devil's Playhouse and Sam and Max Surfin' The Highway. I see how it works now..

I meant that the situation (the game not being developed by Bethesda) reminds me a bit of that Call of Duty thing where Infinity Ward makes the great ones and Treyarch makes the not so great ones (my opinion). I don't know much about Obsidian and almost nothing about the nature of the deal between them and Bethesda. I now assume that Obsidian is awesome and I should never have doubted them.

I loved Fallout 3 and I'm really looking forward to this game. At first, I thought there is some kind of Infinity Ward/Treyarch thing going on with the development and was a bit worried about the quality of the final product. I guess that's still sort of the case but I was pleasantly surprised to hear that there are original Fallout people working on this game. The small improvements they have made sound really good to me.

Mafia is one of my favorite video games. I really liked the city and the countryside and the fact that you can barely get on top of a hill with some of the more modest cars and that you can get a ticket from speeding or not stopping at red light. Like it has already been said, it's unlike most open world games, however. There isn't any "in between missions" time in the story mode and the freeride-section doesn't offer anything interesting to do. I can still heartily recommend that game if you like good games.

Thanks! And late congrats to you too! I don't know how the system works in Canada but I still have (ideally) two more years for my masters degree. So my studies won't end here and, in fact, nothing will change radically after this.

I returned my final candidate's thesis earlier this week. I know, and my instructor has told me, that it is good, so all I have to do now is to hold a presentation about it in a candidate's seminar and pass a couple of exams (which should be relatively easy) and I can call myself a bachelor of science. Not sure if that degree is actually worth anything here but at least I'm going somewhere. Also today is my birthday and tomorrow is May 1, the one day Finns might actually be cheery in public, so everything is pretty fine, I guess.

Have you read any other books by Italo Calvino? I was supposed to read that book but ended up buying The Complete Cosmicomics instead, as it was the only Calvino novel in the book store. Some of it was really interesting but, overall, that book didn't really do it for me. I guess I just forgot about Italo Calvino altogether after that and focused on something else (Kurt Vonnegut most likely). Just finished Joseph Heller's Catch-22 and began reading Welcome to the Monkey House, a collection of short stories by Vonnegut. My sister gave me The Brooklyn Follies by Paul Auster and The Buddha of Suburbia by Hanif Kureishi as a birthday present, so I guess I'll be reading those soon too. Has anyone read Inherent Vice by Thomas Pynchon? Is it good? I really liked The Crying of Lot 49, and I would like to read more books by him but I doubt I will be able to stay focused for 700 pages on V-2 rockets.

Thus far I have gotten the highest grades on pretty much all of my courses. That said, I still really hate exams. Not so much the exams themselves actually but prepping for them. I always feel like I should read or should have read more, which is kind of stressing. I seldom if never feel that I'm not going to pass the exam, though. Good thing most of the courses here have some sort of homework system that grants you extra points for the exam. That way your entire grade doesn't depend on your performance during 3 hours on a given day.

How so? Incidentally, my candidate's thesis is almost complete. Good thing too since I'm sick and tired of the whole thing at this point. Also, I'm still waiting for the ash to cover the sun entirely so I can just sit and watch and maybe listen to some doom metal.

Too bad multitasking doesn't work on 3G. Certainly not going to buy 3GS because of that, though. Folders and home screen wallpapers are kinda neat, though. What do you mean? Tethering is there on 3.1 and from what I have understood works just fine, at least in Finland. Haven't tried it myself, though. Also, about being able to see messages and missed calls in Android when the phone is locked: do you mean that the screen isn't turned off when the phone is locked? Or do you mean that you can see the messages on the "scroll to unlock" equivalent screen when you wake up the display? I'm pretty sure, that is how it works on iPhone as well. Or did I misunderstand you completely?

The Idle Thumbs Podcast Episode 4: Super Expert Pro
Nappi replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
The thought of a guy who built a paintball turret that would always hit him made me sad in a way that the dog in Vonnegut's Breakfast of Champions who couldn't wag his tail and so had to fight all the time instantly made me sad. I guess my first impression was that the guy didn't want his creation to shoot at him all the time even though he had programmed it to do just that. Maybe the turret didn't want to shoot at him either but it was too fast and accurate and obedient not to hit him with every shot. So good episode guys! There were nearly tears.
