  1. Mass Effect 2

Yeah, the scanning was quite dull and pointless but it didn't bother me that much. On the other hand, the Mako sections could have been interesting but they were so poorly implemented that they made the overall game seem of less quality. I hope they can find some kind of compromise. Mass Effect 3 trailer.
  2. World of Poo

Nope, they are part of the game, but very not-in-your-face. If I remember correctly the game doesn't actually present you the challenge neither before nor after the level.
  3. General Video Game Deals Thread

20% off all games on D2D if you can type one word. Including Back to the Future.
  4. World of Poo

My advice would be to ignore the OCD awards if they frustrate you. As I recall, some (most) of them were absolute insane and I think I only got one or two of them by accident. The levels in World of Goo are surprisingly varied and even if you are struggling with some of the earlier levels, it doesn't mean that all the later ones will rape you through a goo hole (some might though). It's just not worth it to spoil your fun trying to get the OCDs before finishing the game. On the other hand, if you like that sort of thing, then why not.
  5. GOTY.cx 2010

Oh yeah, I completely forgot I also played Starcraft II. Well, I guess that only goes to show that it wasn't my g of ty. I'm yet to play but planning to buy Assassin's Creed Brotherhood and possibly Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit. Both will likely be good fun but I doubt they will have an effect on my GOTY list.
  6. GOTY.cx 2010

I have so few 2010 games that I could basically name all of them as contenders for GOTY. Mass Effect 2 was, in my opinion, a vast improvement on the first one in terms of gameplay. Furthermore, the story was interesting enough to keep me playing till the end and the dossier and loyalty missions were constructed really well to introduce you to the various characters in your posse. I don't think I have ever played an RPG this good. The production values are just ridiculous. Red Dead Redemption was lovely as well. The setting well realized (despite some really stupid things like the grave digger) and I really enjoyed roaming around the wild west. The gameplay was mostly good but I would have hoped for the game to be less like GTA. Mafia II, again, had an amazing setting, even better than in RDR: the music, the city, the cars, the people, the music all were spot on in my opinion. The story, too, and especially the way it was told was much better than in your average action game. I didn't mind at all that there were "boring" bits as well, not having to shoot your way through every mission or district was actually really refreshing. The action parts were good but certainly not the best part of the game. Civilization V is the first Civ game in which I'm comfortable with all the mechanics. I have sunk tens of hours into this game and plan to sank tens more when I can find the time.
  7. Not in my copy at least. It promises "over 50 hours of gameplay" though.
  8. Tomb Raider

Seriously? What the fuck? I agree with you. That sounds pretty sad.
  9. Moon

The correct reaction. I agree with DanJW on this one. I actually felt that Sam's reaction was much closer to what I could imagine doing if I was in his place*. I recently heard some bad news (which later turned out be not that bad after all) and I dealt with it in a way that to an outsider probably seemed as if I didn't care at all, as if I was just strolling around the house. *Which I can't honestly imagine being in, though.
  10. Life

"Jesus Christ" works too, especially if the cat has a tendency to climb into trees.
  11. Never playing Super Meat Boy again.

Were there some flashing effects between the stages or something like that or is the fast moving doing it for you? Anyway, that really sucks. I hope that is not limiting your gaming habits too much.
  12. Life

I'd go for Heisenberg, so that I wouldn't have to constantly worry about whether the kitten is dead or not, and could focus on where it is or how fast it's moving instead.
  13. Tomb Raider

It's not a real reboot if they don't shorten the name to, say 'Raider'. Seriously though, I hope that some day they will make a Tomb Raider game that I can get excited about (because they clearly need my money), but I'm not sure if that will happen any time soon.
  14. It's nearly Christmas...

    Yea yea. It's beautiful.
  15. General Video Game Deals Thread

I remember playing that with an old Norwegian dictionary when I was young. I couldn't get past the first word in the title. I might have to try it again now that I have had more experience with adventure games.
  16. It's nearly Christmas...

Oh god.. I just found out there is a second one of those things. Ahh, the internet. Christmas ruined three times in a row.
  17. Back to the Future

Yes, there were definitely glimpses of actual gameplay there. So, will you be directing?
  18. It's nearly Christmas...

Somehow I knew what this was about immediately I saw the title.

  20. WTF is Telltale's new game?

Actually you are the secret of Monkey Island. Ask Ron Gilbert and he will not deny it.
  21. Ok.. so the controls may be a lot worse.
  22. Looks pretty good and seems to play pretty much exactly like the original SNES game, except for the controls which may be a bit worse (yay, progress). I might end up getting this just to have something to play with my sister during the holidays. Jesus Christ, though.. the only Wii games that have interested me at all have been either Mario, Zelda or Donkey Kong related. That's just so fucking sad.
  23. Movie/TV recommendations

Some background to Santa in Rare Exports.
  24. Stacking

Now this looks promising! Really interesting concept. Who's the lead designer this time around?
