  1. Life

Erm.. I just got an email from a professor that was impressed by my exam answer and wants to meet me to talk about my plans. I have a feeling that he might offer me a job as a research assistant or something which would be great if I wasn't already a research assistant and enjoying my job quite a bit. I don't think I'll be quitting now that I'm just getting hang of it. Still, I guess it can't hurt to meet him. Who knows, maybe I'd do my masters in his group in a year anyway. In that case, I just need to hope he still remembers me next year. These kind of things make me feel somewhat awkward although they clearly shouldn't.
  2. The Legend of Kyrandia

That's my favorite part. Crappy 3D cutscenes (usually landscape pans or zooms) in otherwise perfectly beautiful 2D games are depressing.
  3. Weirdness in games... isn't it normal?

What? You could at least read what you and others have posted. The first time AVGN was even mentioned was this post: This implies that someone has actually said that Yahtzee is much worse than AVGN, which quite simply isn't the case. Dropping the subject now.

The absence of a whale should have tipped you off.
  5. Weirdness in games... isn't it normal?

By putting words into people's mouths. Like I said, I couldn't figure out who said Yahtzee was so much worse than AVGN for example. Anyway, moving along.. To me Moonwalker feels a lot weirder than Super Mario Brothers (although, I have always been aware of how bizarre the mechanics of the series are) because it is at least set in the same universe as we are. For the same reason Ratchet and Clank or Jak and Daxter don't seem that strange to me but the setting of the upcoming Driver game is fucking bizarre.
  6. Weirdness in games... isn't it normal?

Is there anything you don't exaggerate? I had to read the entire thread to find out who thought Yahtzee was as bad as the weird game reviewer or "SO MUCH worse" than AVGN, and who was giving an impression of not liking anything. Still can't figure it out.
  7. Weirdness in games... isn't it normal?

He sounds fed up with these videos. I bet he did so 200 episodes earlier as well.

That sounds pretty horrible. I have become a lot more sensitive to that kind of shit in video games, movies and tv-series as I have grown older. For instance, there was a time it felt perfectly normal that the antagonist would take revenge on protagonist's girlfriend (or someone else he holds dearest) instead of him directly. Now it makes sick which isn't helped by the fact that every fucking director thinks that it's the best plot twist there is. I haven't played a God of War game though, so I have nothing more to contribute.
  9. Nintendo 3DS

Well, that's modern electronics for you.
  10. Nintendo 3DS

Haven't followed the news very closely but 3 hours of gameplay and equal charging times sounds pretty bad. Can you still charge 3DS using a regular plug or do you have to use a charging dock for that? Tanukitsune, I guess the only assurance is the improvements in battery technology. By the time 3DSi (or whatever) will be released higher performance batteries are likely to be available for cheaper price.
  11. Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood

Didn't complete the Truth puzzles this time but I stumbled upon this question in IGN guide for the game. I finished The Truth puzzles, what do I do in this red wireframe world? I'm not sure if this is the problem, though.
  12. Movie/TV recommendations

Thought I'd watch The Royal Tenenbaums to cheer me up even though I wasn't even feeling particularly sad to begin with. Well now I am. The movie caught me completely off guard and made me its bitch cry. Very unusual comedy that wasn't ruined by Owen Wilson.
  13. Back to the Future

Yeah, that saddened me a bit, although Telltale Games recycling locations wasn't really all that surprising.
  14. Back to the Future

In my opinion, unfortunately, the first episode was not even close to the quality of the latest Monkey Island and Sam & Max offerings. There were annoying bugs such as the cicadas that kept buzzing throughout the cutscene even after changing the scenery and the keyboard controls that got broken when you moved from one screen to another. Some of the puzzles were pretty poorly designed as well ("Oh, I have to try to leave the bar to see a way to solve the puzzle in the bar!") and the episode felt shorter than previous Telltale Games episodes. It wasn't all bad though, and I'm still looking forward to the next episode. I hope that there will be a change of scenery (or period) at some point though.

Tideland is one of the most (for the lack of better word) distressing movies I have ever seen. Despite being almost light-hearted at times, it actually made me feel physically ill at times. Not a bad thing necessarily, but I don't think I will be watching it again anytime soon. I'll have to find Brazil somewhere.
  16. Inter-railing and stuff

Prague and Krakow are beautiful towns and absolutely worth seeing at least once in your life. I'm not going to help you in any way whatsoever, though.

  18. Games of 2011

Lets see. I'm really looking forward to at least Tropico 4, Diablo 3, Beyond Good and Evil 2 (2011 really?), Deus Ex 3, Portal 2 and Mass Effect 3 (not in the list), but I do hope that some of the games that don't feature a number in their title, such as Dust, will turn out great as well. Quite promising list indeed.

Well, the ending is about equally shitty as in Assassin's Creed 2. If you give a fuck about the "other story" you might not hate it. Personally, I would prefer if all the Animus nonsense didn't exist at all and you would actually control a renaissance assassin and not a guy controlling a renaissance assassin.

Just finished Assassin's Creed Brotherhood. Fun game. I was afraid they'd completely ruin the stealth aspect of the game by focusing on combat and assassin recruits, but fortunately that wasn't the case. The crossbow was a very welcome addition and made moving undetected much more enjoyable. Arrow storm came very handy in some situations as well. The ending, of course, was a complete piece of shit again. I wasn't amused by the way they made in the second to last chapter either.
  21. Idle Thumbs wins an award

Congrats! Deserved. Now that you are famous (not Vanaman), you can afford to travel back to the west coast every weekend with your gear and records a new cast, right?
  22. Batman: Arkham City

Ok, I don't have a big problem with scares if the part is not overly frustrating (say, because of the controls). And thanks for the tip. I will read Wikipedia article on time before I play that part.
  23. Batman: Arkham City

I quit before what I think is the first one of them. I think I can manage those bits if there is time to get my pulse steady afterwards. Are they actually frustrating or just scary?
  24. Batman: Arkham City

I finally bought Arkham Asylum (I'm not paying more than 8 euros for these low budget games, god damn it) and to my slight surprise I'm enjoying it immensely. I usually find these kind of "dark" games too distressing for me – I am, after all, a sissy – but the phasing has been excellent so far. I really like how the game lets me do the detective stuff and discovery at my own phase without constantly throwing morguefuls of enemies at me, and I do hope this will be the case later on as well (will it?). What is more, the game runs smoothly on my laptop at medium settings and still looks pretty nice. I really need to find my gamepad, though. So yeah, I am now actually looking forward to Arkham City, unless the 85% of the first game I am yet to play proves too scary or frustrating for me, in which case I will demand my money back and will never buy another product from Rocksteady or Eidos again.
  25. Movie/TV recommendations

Yes, Micmacs was definitely a bit hard to follow, mostly because the characters weren't very vocal about their intentions and decisions. I think I noticed most of the links, though, as I was able to watch it without (m)any distractions. Definitely a movie where you can discover lots of new things on the second viewing.
