Ahh.. post rock. I used to listen to that stuff a lot and now I'm almost completely fed up with it. I'm sure my interest will be revived one of these days. Pelican usually works for me, though. wPX9mHd0grM

Human Revolution hacking Most interesting hacking mini game I have seen yet! By the looks of it, that thing could probably be sold as a 5 € puzzle game or something.

I guess it could potentially work for stuff like Portal. Updates could drastically change or "break" challenge rooms or open up completely new areas. It would be awesome to have these sort of periodic events in a single player game, actually. Note: I still haven't had the chance to play Portal 2 (thanks to combined efforts of Sony and the Hut), but I suspect the campaign structure is not actually well suited for this kind of constantly evolving experience. The game would probably have to have a sort of free roaming mode for this to work well.

Yeah, I simply stopped playing because I wasn't having fun anymore. Looking at a Youtube playthrough, it seems like I was literally 5 minutes for the ending. Oh well.

These are Sony's new security measures. Image from their internal presentation.

Good to know. Thanks! I saw some kind of chart a while ago that listed OCZ quite high on product problems, but figured that it can't be that bad since they are so popular. Shame really, because the performance to price ratio seemed to be really good.

So here's my current shopping list: Processor: Intel Core i5 2500K Motherboard: Asus P8P67 PRO B3 Cooler: Noctua NH-U12P SE2 Memory: Kingston HyperX KHX1600C9D3X2K2/4GX 8 GB Graphics Card: Sapphire Radeon HD6970 2GB Harddrive: OCZ Vertex 2 - 60GB 2.5" SSD SATA II Harddrive: Western Digital Caviar Green 2TB SATAII 64MB Optical drive: Samsung SH-B123L/RSBP Blu-ray Combo Case: Fractal Design Define R3 Power Supply: Corsair CX600W Totaling couple of euros short of 1300€. Anything really stupid about this plan? I'm still considering whether I should just buy HD6950 instead and save about 100€. On the other hand, I'm not sure if it is that big a deal looking at the total cost of the project.

God! I was so disappointed by Far Cry's monster twist.
-
I guess not, but I sure hope that it will be more in the vein of the second game.

I was very impressed by the first few hours of Far Cry 2. The only thing more effective in conveying the same message would have been to take a "Welcome to a World of Shit" sign and hammer it through the players skull all the way to his brain. It was somehow refreshing to attack an enemy encampment with a shortage on ammo and a gun that is constantly getting jammed when, in your malaria battered brain, you still know that the world isn't going to be any better place after you have dealt with this shit. I hope they won't change things much for Far Cry 3. Perhaps they could make the world less uniformly hostile or something. And make the respawn rate less idiotic. This issue made me stop playing the game last summer before I even had the chance to set the world on fire and hang glide over its dark spilling remains. I remember someone here saying that the respawn rate is hardwired and depends on how the resources are freed. Does that mean that a new machine with more RAM could help?

Yeah, Requiem for a Dream would probably be one, if I hadn't forgotten most of it. As it is, I may have to watch it again. The Proposition might fit the bill to some degree. It was definitely very disturbing and I will certainly not watch it again just because of that, but I'm still not sure how great it was.

Wii was a huge disappointment for me in the end. The hardware was largely unimpressive even on release and the motion controls didn't turn out to be as hot as I was led to believe. The real disappointment was the games catalog however. My collection: Wii Sports, Zelda, Mario, Mario, Mario, Donkey Kong. What used to be my wishlist: Mario, Metroid, No More Heroes, Zelda. (Now a list of games I wish that were released on some other platform.) Don't get me wrong, I loved the Zelda and two of the Marios and quite liked the Donkey Kong. It's still very sad, though. :(:( I'm not sure what to think of the upcoming console to be honest. Nintendo is clearly capable of doing incredible things but they are also quite competent at disappointing (me at least).

I found this discussion very interesting: TpzJGNwJS7o Which movies would you nominate? A friend of mine told me that Grave of the Fireflies is the saddest excellent movie he has ever seen. I haven't been in a mood to watch it yet. My pick would definitely be Terry Gilliam's Tideland. Even though the movie is colorful and even cheerful to some extend, it had a very strong emotional effect on me as I have written before. I'm not sure if want to watch the movie ever again.

Fuck yes! maybe.

If you ever have a chance to watch Lapland Odyssey (Napapiirin Sankarit), I heartily recommend you to do so. If only because I want to know what non-Finnish people think of the movie. A guy, whose girlfriend is about to leave her because he can't get anything done, and two of his best friends embark on an epic journey to buy a digital-tv receiver on a Friday night Lapland to save the crumbling relationship. Full of depression and suicide references, as any self-respecting Finnish movie should be, but still very light-hearted. I liked it more than Rare Exports.

Ok, that does it! Holding my PC/Mac copy of Portal 2 for ransom. Fuck Sony!

Some have even suggested that seriously. Does multiplayer support (in a game with a single player focus) really increase sales so much that it might be worth the trouble? I haven't even touched Uncharted 2 and Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood multiplayer. Still can't imagine Mass Effect having one, though.
-
My first reaction when it was revealed that the game would be set in Constantinople was that I could finally say goodbye to Ezio Auditore da Firenze. No such luck. When the teasers started rolling, I was hoping that the next game would be Assassin's Creed III and set in a completely different place and time altogether. Still, I will buy this game with more than 90% certainty and will enjoy it a immensely with equal probability. At least, we finally got out of Italy.

Has everybody else received an email from Sony already? Cause I haven't. I mean, how long can it take to send 100 million emails? Wait, Sony admitted not having a firewall and using outdated software? Then why on earth wouldn't we believe that to be true no matter how good or bad Sony's image is? It's not like companies lie about these things just to make themselves look even worse.

There is a weird Goldblum workout scene at least. I honestly don't remember how awkward the sex scene was, probably quite. Naked Goldblum holding a baboon has effectively wiped all the other scenes from my mind.

Delayed for larger market opportunity I don't know what to think of this. Mass Effect 2, in my opinion, was for most parts a step into the right direction, but I'm not sure if I want them to go still much further into that direction. I guess they could make the action sequences more exciting and epic provided that they leave the other elements, such as exploration and character interaction, largely untouched. The combat in Mass Effect 2, after all, was very much like in your regular shooter, except that it was quite a bit more boring.

I do my news surfing on Google Reader: Kotaku, Joystiq, Shacknews, RPS and now Giantbomb. Shacknews RSS only has short description of the news and no pictures so it's next to useless considering the speed at which I scroll through the feeds.
