  1. Batman: Arkham City

Combos! That sounds horrible! Amazon.co.uk sent me a very apologetic email about how they cannot deliver the PC version on November 7th. Seems like the release date is November 18th anyway, so meh.
  2. Life

Maybe someone should create an iTunes thread where we can complain about how bloated and ugly our lives are.
  3. My monitor just melted

I have had HP ZR24w for a while now and I have no complaints. I expect this monitor to have a relatively low input lag, as my friend owns the same model and he usually does quite a lot of research before purchasing electronics. Also he games.
  4. Life

(It's just a few clicks away) That's a great picture! The lady pushing gloves are a nice touch.
  5. Renegade Ops

Finished the campaign on one sitting with a friend. Great fun! Loved the story!
  6. Life

I tried to come up with an Idle Thumbs cliché that would be suitable as an elementary school subject, but big bird anatomy didn't seem right and all the others were just plain wrong. Congrats on finding your dream job! My friend studies to become an elementary school as well, and he too finds it very gratifying. I have tried to tell him that kids are actually annoying and horrible and that nothing good will ever come out of them, but he just wont listen.
  7. Life

I bet! Disturbing image even if it's not real.
  8. GTA V

I was able to drive long distances in GTA IV. I don't remember if I got a trophy for it or not. My biggest complaint about the series is the rigid structure as well. Never finished GTA IV because I just got bored. However, I just bought the everything pack on Steam and I think I'll at least check out the Episodes. Did they fix the stupid checkpoint system for the DLC or was that just a dream?
  9. Except for the best gaming platform, of course! In all seriousness, I agree with you. Huge corporations can take care of themselves just fine, so there is no point in getting involved. This doesn't mean that you can't have strong (and voiced) opinions one way or another, of course.
  10. Life

Ahh, I had the feeling that someone had mentioned this here. I find that amazing.
  11. Life

I haven't experienced a panic attack and I know that this is probably not going to be helpful, but I have found a simple and very silly way to cheer myself up when I'm feeling down (due to stress or politics or economy or whatever). I just read or watch something science related (think Universe, Time, Hawkings), and it is immediately easier for me to put things into perspective. It is very much like that Hitchhiker's thing where a big arrow shows your place in the universe and you're just like "Cool, I'm okay with that!" Or to put it in another way, it feels silly to worry about a 30-minute presentation tomorrow when you are travelling in a 13.7 billion year old universe. Some people probably have exactly the opposite reaction to this sort of thing, though.
  12. The ASTOUNDING thread of science!

Well sure.. but I'm not entirely convinced that kind of track would be any easier to build than a conventional one. Furthermore, the train would most likely still need a complete redesign: I don't think the miniature train in the video I posted, for example, would perform as well if the superconductor surface plane was perpendicular to that of the magnets. Also, what if the cooling system fails in the middle of the cliff face and structure loses superconductivity?
  13. The ASTOUNDING thread of science!

I guess one wouldn't have to cool the entire train down – just a part of it (like ). And I'm not sure how being able to place the train at any angle would be a key improvement.
  14. The ASTOUNDING thread of science!

I wonder if they decided to call it quantum locking just to make it appear even more amazing. Anyway, if anyone is in need of money and/or fame, there is a Nobel Prize in Physics reserved for the person who can come up with a satisfactory theory of superconductivity. You can be sure of that.
  15. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

I saw The Melvins live for the second time yesterday (this time on a club gig). Awesome as espected! Probably not for everybody: Also, the upcoming Tom Waits album sounds pretty good!
  16. Obligatory comical YouTube thread

To be honest, that thing looks more unbelievable, more impressive and more awesome than any magic trick I have seen. Quite illustrative explanation of the superconductor levitation: GHtAwQXVsuk Of course, we are still left with the basic problem of how magnets work.
  17. Costume Quest

One of the six, I guess: http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/17/iron-brigade-dlc-official-involves-mars-and-bears/
  18. Obligatory comical YouTube thread

Hahaha! How is that even possible?

  20. Space Chem

I played it for a while a while ago. I was surprised by how complex, for a game, the interface was. Almost reminded me of some electronics circuit design software (or Simulink™ or Labview™ or whatever). It felt a bit too clumsy at first but I soon got used to it and am not sure how it should be improved. Nevertheless, the game is really interesting and I will definitely play some more when I have the time. It is somewhat similar to the things I have been doing at work lately (the process flow part – I'm not making compounds), which felt quite weird at first.
  21. Costume Quest

Seriously, 14 euros! Jesus Christ what a ripoff! You can have a pizza and beer in a restaurant for roughly the same price and the effects will last much longer than this short-ass game does.
  22. Unnecessary Comical Picture Thread

She has a pink shirt with V-neck, for God's sake! And is referred to as a 'she' by me!
