Well that's a shame, the feedback overall seems to be pretty negative. I sort of had my hopes pinned on this one as there are very few games that have got me hyped over the Christmas period. Is there a demo available for 360? I mean the exploration is a bit shallow but I'd like to see how fundamentally the core (shooting) game play is broken.

Its taken me over a year to get to level 3... Gah !
-
Yup, I'm blatantly making excuses for them. Had a look at the achievements... There is one that worth about 300 GP, I'm assuming it is a complete bastard to get. Great.
-
First podcast I ever listened to and enjoyed it. I wonder about the LBP fanbase and desire to continue the enthusiasm. This is definitely for the hardcore not the casual gamer. The fact that Sony is pitching this as their big Christmas game seems very risky to me.

The animated comics are what got me enthusiastic about the game, for a bit I even considered lifting my 'Don't buy any EA games ever again' embargo for it. BTW if you can find a reason to use the flamethrower then you are a better and more dilligent gamer than me.

Dead Space has some great moments in it, probably one of EA's best releases this year. The opening section is pretty good in terms immersion (albeit with some slightly annoying unskippable cutscenes) and there are a few jumps at the beginning. The gore and dismemberment is a laugh for a bit... Then you realise you can melee everthing and that every section is scripted (Miffy's comparison to Doom 3) if you replay a level the monsters appear in the same place, the music that presents them at exactly the same time. This gets really annoying as you may have pottled over to a corner to investigate a crate only to get the DUNH-DUH-DUNH sound effect which means that there are some monsters somewhere. The new guns are pretty pointless and I didn't bother using most of them. Then some of the on rails bits really annoyed me too. I can't help but wish they had made a game about the animated comic book they released instead. If you haven't played either of the condemned games (especially the first) then you'd be better off there

I played a bit more of it... Maybe, and I mean just maybe, it is meant to be jarring. Like Chopin's dream world is so beautiful and beguiling that the bits based on his life are meant to bring the player kicking and screaming towards a cruder, harsher reality. When the world looks like a crappy postcard, maybe you just don't want to wake up? I might have read a bit too much into that.

I've never been much of a fan of the series, which is a shame as Tekken 2 reintroduced me to the joys of gaming after a 3 year hiatus. I really should appreciate it more. Anyway it is coming out on the 360 as well as the PS3 and people aren't happy about that: http://sdtekken.com/2008/10/08/tekken-6-on-xbox-360/ The comments section is gold as long as you don't take anything they say seriously.

Norfolk, I don't have a PS3/PSP/PS2 so no Tek 5 for me. Hmm... Maybe I went wrong by playing 4 (I quite liked the weird boxer guy)? Chris glad that the thread supplied food for thought, I read it just to laugh my arse off, some of the comments verge on racism with sweeping statements about the Americans and the Japanese... Only in the vaccuum of cyberspace can things get so out of hand so quickly.

I was pleasantly surprised by what happened when I selected the bookmark. Didn't crash, but I have no idea what firefox thing I have, I fear change, so updates are rarely done.
-
I'll remember that. Read yout Roflopolis and disagree entirely, all the the bits about Chopin are great. They are the only bits so far that I haven't been compelled to skip. I can see why you don't like them though. For me any excuse to get away from the bobble head weirdoes is good.
-
Just watched [REC] no idea what the American remake will be like but if it is half as good as the original then it will be fucking awesome.

There is co-op in Eternal Sonata? How does that work?
-
Cool, well in a year's time when Eternal sonata is done with I'll borrow Lost Odyssey as my next 'hangover game'. I know a few people who own it.
-
This sounds right up my (back) alley. I've looked up some of the achievements for the 360 version In a very perverse way I'm looking forward to this it'll take me back to the schoolground when only the truly screwed up bought Megaman and only the kids who were insane (and willing to skip classes) ever finished one. Good times, good times.

Haha yeah. The end result is really the same I can't resent fans of the series for enjoying this game at the end of it because they do do a good job of the story. My outbursts alos don't help as they can prove to be divisive, by that I mean if you come in to strng people are always going to disagree.
-
Shit, I was logging in to apologise for my outburst the other day. The Force Unleashed is everything you just described. A good bit of Star Wars lore mired by a retarded game Maybe because I was a little too personally involved with it that I'm being so harsh... But really? Does it not bother you how bad the main game is? Wouldn't it have been more enjoyable if they had just released a book or film instead of making a poor game with a few really good cut-scenes? The combo system is pointless (it makes Dynasty Warriors and N3 look deep by contrast) the lock on system is as bad as the early GTA series. Yeah the levels look nice but have you tried running through them quickly, and noticing you don't really have to kill most of the people you encounter? The boss battles are rubbish and quite frankly the QTE nause is only surpassed by Viking: Battle for Asgaard. If you are a fan of Star Wars then there is a good 20 quid's worth of game in there. But it plays like a kids' game. I'm glad that it is getting negative reviews or else we would have a case of Episode 3. A bad film that is better than its predecessors so therefore elevated to 'not shit'.

To say something positive today... The first Tomb Raider was great, it evoked a feeling of Indiana Jones with a touch of utter isolation. The series went downhill from ther ebut Legend and Anniversary were both fantastic returns to form. It was like Crystal Dynamics managed to find what was good about the Blood Omen/Soul reaver gameplay and put it into a Tomb Raider context. As long as they learn to avoid pointless driving sequences and stick to the epic feel of climbing up mountain faces and abandoned ruins, I'll happily sign up for another round.

Sorry, I just ranted about Force unleashed on a separate thread. Are you joking Dan? Most of the stuff done in this game have been done else where and better. Psi-Ops had a better sense of force grip and possesion. The Force Unleashed just went with the 'Lets make sure that we can make milestone and bollocks to everything else'. It makes me so angry to see games like Dark Sector and (to a lesser extent) Alone in the Dark get ignored, but simply put a Star Wars tag on it or a Lord of the Rings one and all of a sudden it is worth paying attention to. Sorry that I'm so bitter about this game but I really can't help it.
-
Good thing too, because the game is pure gash. Actually, I wish to retract that as it is an insult to gash everywhere. Shitty AI, wonky controls, monotonous nods to the films, powers that were done so much better 4 years ago (second sight and Psi-Ops). Oh yeah and if you wait long enough the veneer of sheen they applied to every surface starts to fade and graphical glitches are abound. I fucking hated that game.
-
I think it is because it is just too obvious. I've played all three of the installments and enjoyed them quite a lot, I just don't understand the perfect ten scores. By that I mean that they are just really good at doing everything competently so that most people make do but to be honest I doubt I'll ever play it again. COD4 is also horribly, horribly flawed and does not deserve some of the accolades it gets. Frankly, the hate that COD3 gets while everyone kisses COD4's arse is ridiculous. My last post is almost perfect in timing for the Eurogamer review of The Force: Unleashed, glassic example of a very poor game enshrined in star wars to save its average-as-hell gameplay.
-
I thought this game was utter tripe. I loved the first one but this game does nothig new. The world feels just as empty as the first but it just feels inexcusable so many years on. The explosions are good fun and there is nothing like dropping a bunker buster, but I already did all of that in the first mission. The vehicle jacking is ripped off of Just-Cause, as is the setting... If you are desperate enough to be getting Saints Row then by all means try out Mercenaries 2. I'm not a big fan of Sandbox games (Mercenaries being among the few that I played to completion) so my oppion is always getting to be a bit biased.

I know it isn't Europe, but if you just wwant to get away Australia isn't a bad choice. You can get a traveller's VISA there which will allow you to stay in the country for up to two years and will let you work in the same place for 6 months at a time. As for Europe I would recommend you take a Tefal course that will allow you to teach English anywhere in the world then look into English schools abroad. You can be certain that anywhere there are English schools there are English speakers (for example my friend has been working in Turkey for the last 2 years he has learnt to speak some Turkish but there is a fairly large contingent of ex-pats).

I think becaue people so desperately want a good game based around Lord of the Rings that they will settle for a very average game instead. I've seen the same thing happen in the Star Wars series. Reviewers go in hopeful that it won't be utter shite and then if it succeeds in being playable they whack with a 7-8 score and breathe a sigh of relief. Apart from my encounter with the half life series, FF and MGS bunch (which I've mentioned before) I've had no real surprises over the years. ... Waitaminute, oh, no. I'm not going to mention Halo.
