There's down time at work so I'm catching up on these slowly but surely. Loved this episode, I'm a little surprised at how much air-time Far Cry 2 is getting in contrast to forum posts. Anyways, I'll endeavour to download these on a weekly basis from now on.

This should a more exhaustive list: http://forum.xbox-sky.com/xbox360_regional_compatibility_guide/

Been watching this thread with interest for some time as I was really interested in Far Cry 2, sadly it sounds like a bit of a disappointment. I still would like to play it because I liked the setting but I think it is another wait until it drops in price.

Demo available on 360 right now. The Yahtzee thing was hilarious but I have to say that I now know how some of my friends who loved Assassin's Creed feel after watching the slating he gave it. There are some shortcomings in the game I'll admit (having gotten a great deal further), and maybe the Wii version was kind of shitter or something, but his emphasis on a couple of minor niggles seems a bit over the top. It is like he never played the labrinth zone in the original Sonic the Hedgehog or the level on the airship in Sonic 2 with the teeth grindingly hard one-hit-and-you-die bosses at the end. So it breaks up the speed (rarely) of the Sonic levels with a few jumping areas... So what? That's exactly what the original Sonics did. So Were's etymology derives from 'man' okay, nice dig but the fight sections were fun. The only thing that has pissed me off enough to walk away were the rythm action sections, which mainly has to do with the fact that I suck at them. So yeah, if what Yahtzees stuff said hit a note with you then maybe you shouldn't bother but for those who can check out the Demo. If you have a 360

Sorry Dan, the flow of the game is in fact very good (unlike some of the stop and start sections of Mirror's Edge). The sense that you aren't punished too brutally for fucking up works really well in the opening sections but does take a dip in some of the later levels. The story is ridiculous and Chip the dragon creature is mildly annoying, but once the level loads (about 2-4 seconds into the cut-scene) you are free to skip it. The first boss battle is an extended QTE but actually works as a rythm mini-game, I'm useless at them but after my third attempt I got through. Also, these sections are really good fun to watch. At the end of the year, next to Gears of War 2, Fable, Fallout and FAr Cry (and Kingdom under Fire: Circle of Doom which is strangely addictive)this game and Banjo Kazooie: NnB have made me smile. Oh, but one bit in te Sonic version of China as the Werehog, may actually make you kill someone.

Sorry, what do you even mean by that? I thought Mirror's edge was an interesting but deeply flawed game (ala Alone in the Dark) which deserved to be bought only to encourage EA to be more adventurous with their investment into original IPs. If you are trying to imply that Sonic team should throw away the gorgeous, fun, and enjoyable game I've been playing for the last week in place of the shonky, awkward-but-at-least-they-are-trying job that is ME then sorry, I'm not on the same page. Have you even tried the game? If you have then please justify slagging it off.

Nick, you'll be surprised. The werehog levels play out like a weird combo of Mario and God of War, the fighting has quite a bit of depth to it and the platforming sections don't feel out of place , they work by not having the twitchyness of the last few Sonic games that made it impossible for accurate jumping. The slowing down of gameplay helps you appreciate the adrenaline fused speed levels. Rodi, there should be a demo available check it out and see how you feel before purchasing if you have never played a Sonic game before. Seriously, I was going to throw in the towel after the last Sonic game but I got a chance to play this one and I'm fully pledged as a fan again. Thank you Sonic team.

No, I agree. I also need to stress that most of the QA guys I met from Brash can go fuck themselves. It was a select few of the team who knew they were doing a shit job but that, if the company had stayed afloat, they would have had the time to release a decent game without the constriction of shitty 6 month development schedules.
-
I know a few of the, now ex, Brash guys and I'm a little sad as I saw one of the projects they were worling on for next year, it actually looked pretty sweet. Jumper was abominable and Space Chimps was serviceable, it is little wonder that they ran out of money. My only hope is that the guys working on the PM side find jobs somewhere else in the industry.

All the big companies have a 'known shippable' (or words to that effect) tag on issues reported these days. To be fair if the bug wasn't encountered by Microsoft during submission then Eidos got lucky.

Toblix there are a couple Class As in there. For example if you pick up this pole required for solving a puzzle then do any kind of crouching the pole is dropped and cannot be picked up again (my friends and I found it in the demo) and requires you to restart the from he last checkpoint.

Just plowed through the majority of the campaign with a friend. The game is epic, and the Horde mode is great. Apart from the early mission that felt like an on-rails shooter I have nothing negative to say about the game at all. Oh yeah, apart from the story line but then I've nver paid much attention to those.

Have you heard anything about the new SEGA genesis collection coming out on PS3 and X360? Sure it is just a collection of ROMs but they look like they have some nice addtions like box art and alternative versions of stuff (I think they are going to include the arcade version of Altered Beast as well as the Megadrive version)

Lol, nice retort, I wish I knew what that website was so I could be offended. I don't really use much of the online content stuff except for XLA titles and avatars have given me an excuse to get rid of a lot of random people I don't even play with online. As reactionary as my first response was I'm finally getting comfortable with the new system. I'm still not happy with it, the support for themes is pretty rubbish and they publicised 'improved' support for computer screens was non-existent. The 'cleanliness' of the new interface isn't there for me either, in fact I'm finiding it harder to use as they have moved stuff around so much. Also becuase of the earliness of it it crashes a lot of games that I play in areas that didn't used to. I've yet to check out whether it still supports my old IPod too.

Arrgh. This game is good but it suffers from floaty cam (all the characters tend to glide everywhere rather than making it feel like they are having to deal with inertia or gravity). I can never really get into it as anything other than a good frag fest. Even when I get dragged down by the zombies I never feel like I'm in any real danger as, in reality, I'm really just a disembodied camera staring up at the horde. Just a matter of hoping that I'll get respawned and/or the game will restart. Harsh, I know but I just don't feel anymore invested in this than I would a good match of TF2 or Unreal Tournament. No bad thing but it feels like the game missed the point a little. EDIT: It would have been nice if the characters levelled up as the campaign proceeded and if you died you lost all enhancements, that would really give an incentive to not die.

Don't like it one bit, detest the avatars, and is it me or does it take longer to boot up your 360? I'm thankful that if you have an existing profile it doesn't make it obligatory to have an avatar. In the process of removing everyone has one too.

Gears of War 2 improved on everthing from the original. I wasn't going to buy it and then I played it... Fuck, it was good.
-
The new Sonic game will be awesome, mark my words. SEGA rally evo has an abundance of blue skies but is balls-to-wall hard. And there is always the Beautiful Katamari.

Obviously I loathed Dead Space but everyone I know is coming back with different impressions. Even with some of the poor games that have come out, EA actually look like they are trying, that the crap they've churned out for years isn't good enough any more.... The question is, are you willing to forgive their discrepancies? They've shafted us for so long, is it worth puting up with the crap they keep spewing? {Tried to pose this as a question to the hiperlink, it did not work}

Boy Runs Away, Dad Blames Xbox, Microsoft does the stupid thing
twmac replied to Thyroid's topic in Idle Banter
25000 dollars just for some good publicity? That's nothing. Microsoft make themselves look like they care and people buy Xbox 360s because they think they do. -
Yeah, you got that too. Happens all the time. Some of them seem to be timed triggers. You'll flip a switch, and if you don't go in the right direction you'll completely miss the fright. A couple of friends I know have taken over playing this, they are absolutely loving it in contrast to my loathing. So maybe it just isn't my kind of game.

Agreed, sort of, having to spend ages trying to get my P133 to run Tomb Raider made me understand computers a great deal more than I had thought I ever could. I lost all though and now struggle to update my Winamp and Firefox versions properly. I was talking to some one about Diablo III and I felt this weird desire to go back to PC gaming but I have to say that I couldn't face losing any more of my life to PC gaming (I really would do no work whatsoever if I started installing big proper games on it)

If you are really interested PM me, I posted this true story somewhere else and got in trouble. Even though I know the person who it happened to and I'm pretty certain it really happened. Warning, it is a bit gross. I haven't checked my facebook (it is a picture of the back of my head) I'm afraid to, I met a lot of cool people in Eastern Europe and Australia and now have no way of getting in touch with them if my account is gone.

Dude that is no way near as sensational as what I learned about Stallone this year... It involves poo.

Far Cry 2 joins Fable and Dead Space on the pile of pretty good but probably not worth it titles this year, soon to be joined by Fall out 3.
