  1. Movie/TV recommendations

Huh, well I can't really argue with you as all the things I loved about the film would be things that I would generally hate in any other franchise. Predators was the sequel to Predator that I always wanted. Lawrence Fishbourne hasn't been this good in a film in years, I have a new found respect for Adrien Brody as he was unrecognisable in this film in contrast to his traditional choice of roles(if someone had told me it was Adrien Brody's brother or something I would have believed it). The Predators were badass, while managing to treat the rather stupid characters with some modicum of respect. But, this movie is in full-on 80's schlock mode and I can see why people would have hated it. The plot is taut to the point of anorexic (which I liked), the protagonists are charicatures (which is perfect for this type of film), and the 'twists' are fairly predictable (I thought that was the point).
  2. Movie/TV recommendations

Machete was awesome, but Predators was my favourite of this year.
  3. Movie/TV recommendations

Am really looking forward to Rare Exports since I saw the preview about a month ago. Watched 'Gentlemen Broncos' on DVD, twice. It is the best film I watched this year. So awkward and weird but genuinely funny with more of a heart that you would expect from such a combination of freaks from middle America. Sam Rockwell is absolutely gold.
  4. We were playing with the combo. To be honest, I think you might have been able to play it Nes style but the Wii Remote/Nunchuk combo felt very natural. Loose controls? Not really sure, they felt good to me but I am not an expert. Drath, it is very old school SNES of the little I played of the DKC2 it plays the same. If your girlfriend isn't brilliant at platformers then let her take Diddy as he has all manner of double jumps etc that make some sections easier.
  5. Kinect

    Thanks for the tip!
  6. Halo Reach

Ah, seems I posted to the wrong thread. Also seems that the Bots are attracted to Halo Reach like stink on shit. This one was Portuguese(or Brazilian) too. I am available for games, video games. I have only just picked up Reach so am a bit naff at it but would be willing to give Legendary a go.
  7. Halo Reach

Someone please administratively rape this bot through the pants, please? I have just picked up Reach so i was wondering if there was any regular multiplayer sessions going on and/or someone looking for a Co-Op partner? Yes I know I am relatively late to the party, I can't help it there was VANQUISH.
  8. Kinect

So the guy at Penny arcade has been posting this. The two previous posts are also a good read to see what is happening in homes around us, right now. I guess it makes sense, the marketing is right and the audience is right and, well, the games are right. Microsoft reckons they sold 1 million in 10 days, it is so weird being on the outside of it all... Again. I understand that the reason that it is so successful is because I don't get the Kinect and I am not supposed but it doesn't stop baffling me. On the upswing a friend is coming around tomorrow with Donkey Kong Country: Returns and Kirby's Epic Yarn so I might turn into a Wii owner after Sunday. Maybe. Just need a screen that supports Composite in my room.
  9. Sonic 4

Or, maybe Sonic fans are looking for a feeling not a game. I think Sonic 4 is excellent by the way.
  10. Rock Band 3

Well it isn't all bad news: Rock Band 3 has a strong showing in the US
  11. Rock Band 3

Okay, I am sort of glad and sad that this bubble is bursting. It is no secret that I have never liked these types of games so I like the idea of this dying down. However, it is a shame that no one saw this coming and treated it as the niche product it is becoming. The reason, in my mind, is that Guitar Hero and Rock Band was the new toy. Like the Wii Remote and the Kinect it captures the general public's imagination but like the Rubik's cube, Bean bags, and Sandra Bullock, people have become bored with it and moved on. Rock Band still has its market but that market is tiny.
  12. An inevitable demise, and a cry for help.

Never had the Red quadrants of death issue but my first 360 died for another reason about 3 years ago, then it stopped reading discs. The first time Microsoft fixed it, the second time it cost me 50$ cdn to fix. This generation has been the worst for unreliable hardware.
  13. Fresh Indie Game Compendium Extraordinaire

:buyme:The Tempura of the dead By: 8-bits fanatics Available: Xbox LIVE indie games Synopsis: The President of the USA teams up with a Samurai to kill zombies and save California More: Indienerds early view: http://indienerds.com/wordpress/?p=1407
  14. Call of Duty: Black Ops

I think she just got busy doing real life stuff, which is a shame as I do genuinely miss the way she would sometimes use the forums as a personal message board. Anyone know what the story with the Rusalka is(in COD)?
  15. The title is a riff on those terrible compilations from the 90's. I had one and it was called 'The greatest Rock Album, ever, vol 2'. I was 13 at the time and it sounded dumb to me then. And Vanquish is dumb and not in the slightest bit original if you put the concepts down on paper but somehow it feels utterly refreshing while playing because it just does everything really well. I played it for about an hour last night and I really am overwhlemed, the story is rubbish but the cut scenes keep me watching because of their realisation. This is a minor gripe but when the action slows down for a few seconds I did notice some screen tearing, not for it to be distracting but enough for me to notice.
  16. Call of Duty: Black Ops

So, saw some footage of a boat called RUSALKA get shot... Is this what Yufster has been up to in her spare time? In some ways I pine after the days when she used to post random stuff, it gave me something to read whether I agreed with it or not. A bit like Ellie Gibson, but more idly.
  17. Backlog Busters

If you do document it, make sure to 'plug your shit' I always like having more to read.
  18. Earth Defence Force sequel

New video and the split screen co-op is good news, but, but, but... http://kotaku.com/5679657/twice-the-bug+killing-in-earth-defense-force-insect-armageddon The main characters look like the guys from Crackdown. Is that good? I am not sure. I miss the crappy 'twisting at the waist' style of 2017. Maybe this is just an early build and they are going to add more enemies soon.
  19. Xbox 360 Exclusives? (!)

I think that is a really important point, with so little to discern each console from the other and multi-platform being king, it is kind of nice to know that you won't be wasting your money purchasing either. I feel like as time has crept on I have started to feel like I lost out though as most of my main gaming buddies have migrated to PS3 and to join them I am going to have to buy a new television as well as a new console. And that certainly isn't going to happen any time soon.
  20. Xbox 360 Exclusives? (!)

Looking at that list it is bizarre how many Japan-only RPGs and shooters are on there. You would have thought they would have wanted to reach a much wider audience and, you know, put them on the PS3. Off of that list there aren't many I would recommend. Except for Earth Defense Force 2017
  21. Kinect

I was similary unimpressed with Guitar Hero and Rock Band, but it shows I know nothing and the Kinect/Move and Wii Remote were not aimed at me. I am going to reserve my judgement until I see one of the games I mentioned above in motion, for real. Of the established genres the only one I imagine being good with Kinect is RTSs. That said, isn't anyone else disappointed that in other Art forms, the introduction of a new technique has led to new breakthroughs in expression and genre. Yet, in the games industry it has resulted in the same genres but with waggle controls? No one seems to be thinking of a way to make a new type of game, only how to bend the rules of an established genre to fit the new input.
  22. Kinect

There are no system sellers for it yet. Think we are going to have to wait for Child of Eden, Panzer dragoon and Steel Battalion 2. Dance Central looks like a fun, drunk-at-a-party-yes-I-know-I-can't-dance sort of thing adn the only other game even remotely interesting is Sonic Free Riders. 180cm is the optimal distance but I've seen stuff working from closer range and be playable while sitting.
  23. Life

No you are right, I was just bemused by the posting hence the weird stream of nonsense that followed. Sorry if it sounded like I was being an arse but imagine me at work going 'Hmm, stress, people running around trying to do stuff while, literally, dressed as Faeries, will take a quick work break and post something I was going to say on the thumbs... What is this? Someone thinks that they might be losing it, shit, what was I going to write?... Seems to be taking it in his stride, not sure I would... What? The tester is doing what? Slam the keys on the keyboard for a bit and then go and punch some QA guys in the head' So yeah, glad everything resolved itself Orvidos. Sleep deprivation does some pretty weird things to your head unless you are a teenager experimenting with alternate forms of highs I don't recommend it. Also, Patters, not sure if that was aimed at me or Thunder peel so I am going to asssume it was at me. Yes I have dealt with people with mental illness, and I did not mean to sound facetious.
  24. Choose the next game I should play...

I would have to say 'Time gentleman, please' as i don't often play PC games but I have played those so there is something special about them.
  25. Life

How very, casual. I had something to say about life and stuff but those last two posts have thrown me completely off. It is Halloween Friday, people are walking around in costumes and there are a surprising number of men in drag (more so than usual). Broke it off with the girl I was seeing, started sleeping with another girl before realising that it was a bad idea. Played 3 hours of multiplayer Greed Corp in a bar with a bunch of inebriated games testers last night then woke up this morning with a strong sense that I might need to try and do something with my life before I find myself at the age of 50 with little idea as to what happened.
