GDC 2011: The Idle Thumbs Conf Grenade: Hold On To Your B.U.T.T.O.N.
twmac replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
Just had a really stressful week, this is the best thing to find. Ever. -
Well, I really am looking forward to this one. I love mechs though, so the idea of a game this colourful gracing the mech universe makes me happy. The trailer had some fantastic looking aliens, not really bothered about what the protagonist looks like as I'll be looking at my surroundings not the centre figure. Also, I understand that it sucks that it is not coming to PC etc, but seriously quit fucking whining. There are so many good games on PC for you to enjoy, same for PS3 and Wii. I don't game on PC as a choice and have to deal with that sacrifice I made. The PS3 and Wii exclusives make me wince, but I know that if I want to play them I just have to save up and buy the console/system. But seriously, grumbling about an exclusive makes you sound like an elitist arsehole.

If We Dare is about sex then: A) Yes, it is extremely scary I've been doing it wrong for years
-
hahah yeah, figured as much. Typical, I have to pick a game that no one has any interest in.

It has now been delayed until the 5th of July. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooooooooooo:zoid:

There is a video doing the rounds of guy being so wrapped up in getting to gamezone (Montreal) in time for the midnight release of Marvel vs Capcom 3 that he inadvertently screwed up his chances with members of the fairer sex. Well he actually writes on Arcadian Rhythms, so after this video went viral, we gently mocked him (see bottom of page): http://www.arcadianrhythms.com/2011/02/clones-drones-and-sex-its-friday/ The best part is that the piece he wrote for the site was on games he was looking forward to and amongst those was MvC3.

Someone please try out EDF: insect Armageddon for me?
-
Eurogamer gave it a 9. Really want it but I am moving and don't want to spend more money right now.

Fair enough, but like I said, there will be some episodes I just won't listen to at all due to the fact it is on a topic I have no interest in. I agree that is a good idea to stay focused but it might be worth making it a tinsy bit longer and covering maybe two disparate topics? Anyway, I still liked it and will be sure to follow your stuff, you might want to slow down your twitter announcement, have been able to catch it so far.

For the Turian horse armour. JonC - Have you made these podcasts shorter and more focused to meet deadlines, or is it because you would prefer to keep to one topic more-or-less? Enjoyed the two that I listened to (including the shout out to the Grand Thumb Auto multiplayer), but I couldn't face the mobile phone one. It might have been good but I don't really care about phones (I don't even have a land line) and I think that might be a bit of a problem with the current format given that some people will be put off my by the almost singular topic matter.

Have downloaded the first one and have it lined up for the next listen at work.

Hmmm, well I shall twiddle my thumbs in the hope that this might happen, and that the controller issues are resolved. Looks like a really fun 4 player game, I am all about 4 player stuff.

It just went up today, and I feel like some people (The Wire fans) here might get a little laugh out of it: http://www.arcadianrhythms.com/2011/02/stay-alive-the-film-the-review/ I reviewed Stay Alive, I didn't really review to be honest but the film is so terrible that it really doesn't deserve a proper one. And to reply to a different thread, Snooglebum, there is now more content so the site looks like a real one now.

Just watched an episode of the floppy haired c*** show on the Xbox channel, there was noise to the effect that there might be an X360 port. Would that even work?

Man, Prince of Persia remake... I've never finished it due to the combat being so atrocious. As soon as that became a major feature of the game I stopped playing. I didn't realise that the Earthworm Jim HD had been made easier... That would explain why I am so much better at it. As for the comments on the Limbo thing, it can be accomplished. Unlike Gameloft, the devs were very much into their game. Maybe Dylan doesn't make his argument clear but for me he was using anecdotal examples of an achievement list broadening his enjoyment of a game.

Bumping this thread a little as the site I work on has just done a piece on achievements. The main consensus seems to be Achievements aren't a bad thing... Sort of.

Dead Island fails to live up to its name and is in fact alive
twmac replied to Thrik's topic in Video Gaming
If its: "Far Cry 2 meets Dead Rising" ign.com Then I am very interested. Nice eye catching trailer too, I know people who aren't even interested in games talking about this one. -
A friend of mine at Electron Dance has finished his write up, start from the beginning it is as harrowing as I could ever imagine a game could be: http://www.electrondance.com/

I sat around with my cousins playing Halo 2 about 3 years ago. The middle of the three was pretty ace at the game. I reckon that in the separating 3 years he is has overtaken me. Or, he has become obsessed with cycling like his older brother.

I was searching for an image for my article on my own blog, when I find one I do the author courtesy of perusing for a bit. It resulted in me finding this: http://www.chrisflett.com/alpha-male-rant/time-to-grow-up-man-boy/ It is quite special, I posted a polite response but it hasn't been approved. Anyways, I thought it would make a good companion piece to the face palm post about Bulletstorm in the gaming section. I can't quite bring myself to dislike the guy as he clearly thinks he is on to something.

Alright, time for my patented English stiff upper lip and start playing it. Form the comments I've seen on this forum there sounds like there is some beauty in there.
-
I am just about to start playing this game in earnest as part of my Metacritic challenge. Not sure if I am going to be able to beat it though, I tried it at someone's hosue a long time ago and didn't get into it.

Steve Gaynor on Another Castle podcast
twmac replied to F4T C4T's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
Listened and enjoyed that a lot. A lot of Steve's philosophies on what makes a 'good' game mirror a lot of my own. I can still be a sucker for a linear game and a bit of multiplayer from time to time. It is weird that Gears of War is also one of the games that sucked me in for ages -
Okay, apologies for posting this link here in the first place. I didn't mean it to cause the hubbub it did. Vimes, I agree that simply posting about things that cause grief is not particularly great. I just found the post funny and thought I would share the giggle. Although I, obviously, disagree with his (Mr Flett's) opinions. I do like to read them, it gives me a moment to go 'hang on, do I fit into his world view? And, if I do, do I care?' Anyway, everyone should go and get excited about the fact that Earth Defense Force: Insect Aramgeddon is almost out. Hurrah!

Just finished the main story... If I hadn't had Nick Cave & Warren Ellis' White Lunar + Tom Waits playing in the background the whole time I don't think I would have finished it. I am sure there was some point to doing pointless chores at the end but it just made me hate it.
