  1. Steel Batallion: Heavy Armor for Kinect

I always forget about that game because it is a PS3 exclusive. But NO MORE, I now own a PS3 so I should probably track that game down. And yes 3D Dot game heroes is one of their funnier ones. Also the humour in Dark Souls is a weird one. It is certainly grim, but the way in which the seller talks to you, or the way that they designed the first blacksmith so that if you step back to abruptly while cancelling out of the menus, the game will make you back step to your death. You know someone was giggling at that when they put it in the game.
  2. Steel Batallion: Heavy Armor for Kinect

Oh man, Metal Wolf Chaos, Ninja Blade, Enchanted Arms, even the Otogi and Armoured Core series have a wry sense of humour. Dark Souls has the sickest of humours of all. Maybe I am reading too much into it, but it all seemed perfectly set up for the slightly serious, with dabs of tongue-in-cheek sensibility that From Software are known for.
  3. Steel Batallion: Heavy Armor for Kinect

Sold, but if you think that is sincere then you don't know From Software. There are little things that they are having fun with (guy urinating on the cactus, the deliberateness in which you climb up, wave the water at the colleague and then drink it anway) that I feel shows they are still prone to adding humour in their game in some shape or form. If the gameplay really is like that then I am sold. They just need to make sure that they build the Kinect features in so as to not make them to janky.
  4. Now, if it had been properly recorded in stereo...
  5. Risen (Gothic successor)

Started playing the X360 version as a build up to the sequel... I knew it was going to look bad on the console but I didn't realise it was going to look this bad. I am in the Harbour Town and it is so utterly bland that it reminds me of Hydelide on the Saturn. It is a blocky, brown mess. The voice acting is okay and there is a lot of it but I just don't care. And the combat is very average. Does the story, narrative or world get any more interesting?
  6. I have searched high and low, I apologise if some how I missd the thread related to Vanquish after searching 'Shinji', 'Vanquish' and 'Platinum' but as far as I was concerned there does not seem to be a discussion for this game. If I am wrong, fair enough. Holy fucking shit, this game is amazing. I haven't finished it yet so it might Bayonetta me by having three levels at the end that suck but right now the game has absolutely blown my mind. You can try and approach the game as a gears of war clone, or you can try and go ape-shit with the boosters but the game constantly encourages you to do a bit of both. It is truly one of the best games for balancing reward and risk that I have ever experienced. The visual fidelity is phenomenal to boot, from a forced fire fight up a destroyed highway (while a giant mech throws debry at you) to the mind bending train shoot outs this game never falters. I will concede that a lot of what it is doing has been done in other games but never at this level and never to the point that I am grinning inanely, waiting for the next set piece. As I said before, Holy Shit, this game makes me giddy.
  7. Donated too. Awesome fatloot story, the conclusion had me in stitches. How old were you Vanaman?
  8. Good news indeed. I will be pledging a good 200 dollars towards this. I really want one of those Wizard inspired T-Shirts.
  9. Movie/TV recommendations

Schmidt was in bunny ears, right? Zooey's character has been shown twice as a slightly over weight girl in glasses.

    Cannot come sooner.
  11. Movie/TV recommendations

Have to disagree, that show is pretty dire. I am a fan of Zooey Deschanel and it is painful to see that she has producer credits on this show and then lets herself be written into those scenarios. There are some pretty weird subtexts in there too. For example every character when protrayed as a child is portrayed as a fat kid. Also it just isn't funny.
  12. Backlog Busters

I was the sniper, I am pretty much max level (barring the additional levels added with the extra content). Give me 3 weeks to sort my shit out and I should be on Xbox LIVE regularly.
  13. Backlog Busters

Sno! RE: Borederlands. I have never beaten General Knoxx's secret armory or the one with tons of claptraps. I will be back in England by February and have a reliable connection so if you want a buddy for the ride we should make plans.
  14. Goty.cx 2011

I beat 47 games this year. To be fair, I do write a lot of reviews for stuff and I feel bad if I don't complete the game before I do so.
  15. Fuck Steve, grats Steve 3.

I new podcast from the Thumbs would be awesome. An IGF special where Jake talks about all the games he played, that's what needs to happen.

You get comments from readers, the ones that the Eurogamer staff were the best reflective of the game. Your second two points seem fair enough, I just find it interesting to read abotu what people find interesting/preferred. Eurogamer moreso than the other major sites has less venemous visitors and there are often some really nice, thoughtful posts. I am disappointed that they got rid of the staff votes. I will admit that I liked those a great deal more.
  17. Goty.cx 2011

Well if you are going to be a dick about it. I really enjoy these as it is nice to see some games that I thought to be nothign be niche titles appearing in these, and I quite enjoy the comments that people take the time to write for each one of their selections and how Eurogamer vet them (although, to be fair they got a little sloppy last year). At the same time I find it interesting and a good place for sparking debate to see what is considered the 'best'. For what it is worth I enjoying flinging in my two cents and it is fun when anything I voted for gets in the top 100.
  18. Goty.cx 2011

Hey, Eurogamer are doing their end of year thing: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/eurogamer-readers-top-50-games-of-2011-voting Why not vote for your GOTY.CXs over there?
  19. Yeah, I didn't at first but it was more because I couldn't understand when anyone would act like that.
  20. Goty.cx 2011

Well, I feel bad but there are at least two or three games vying for the spot... I would have to go with Dark Souls, it is easily one of the most beautifully bewitching games I have played in a long time. From the level design to the combat, I can't really fault the game for its lack of compromise. I've not finished but I can't wait to try. Honourable mentions: Saints Row: The Third, Dungeon Defenders, Catherine, Child of Eden, Mindjack, Dead Island
  21. Wizaaaaaards!!

Well, this isn't quite the same but it is close enough. A Wizard who turns himself into the implements required to play arkanoid in an RPG skin. http://wizorb.com/ Wizorb.
  22. Play.com is useless

You could try liksang... Sorry, it still hurts.
  23. Saint's Row The Third

Have been thoroughly enjoying the game also. Beat it in about 15 hours for a review on AR, there were a few bits that made me a little uncomfortable. Did a sort of mock advert for Saint Row and put it in the Plug your Shit section: So yeah, enjoying the game a lot. My personal favourite level was setting up for the Murder Brawl match.
  24. FAO Thompson

Sweet I have learned something new today. Also the santa hats on avatars are great, not because of what they stand for but more that each one is customised for the avatar (especially like the pixellated Kirby one)
  25. FAO Thompson

What does the acronym FAO stand for? While we are at it YMMW or YMMV, or whatever it is, what does that stand for?
