Well, I've mentioned it many times before and a lot of you guys already use it but I found the backloggery has got my game purchasing habits under control. This is a sub page that shows me that I am starting to make progress, finally.
-
Okay, I just ordered my copy from Amazon so I am ready when anyone else is. Do you want me to start a separate thread?
-
I beat the whole game in 2 weeks with only one Colossus that I had to look up. None of them took me more than an hour to figure out and destroy so I reckon two weeks is reasonable for each one.
-
Both options are awesome. Finished Journey in one sitting on Saturday. It was great. 2017 is also great, can't wait for 2025!
-
Okay, is SotC something we should plan for next year.

Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

You mean Darksiders 2, don't you? I need to get back into that game. -
Just bought a copy of Killer 7 for PS2, obviously I am a bit too late for this. I would be up for doing this (I have been meaning to go back and play Hitman: Blood Money). Yakuza also lends itself well to an episodic format given that it is broken up into chapters. I've finished the first three so that might not be a good idea for anyone coming in fresh to the series. I am itching for an excuse to play the HD remake of Shadow of the Colossus and that would break itself up into chapters rather naturally. I only ask that if you guys do decide to do this if you could start a new thread for it.

Hooray, another Metal Gear game. I cannot believe people still give a fuck about that tired franchise. Dark Souls II however, would be nice to see some actual in-game stuff but awesome to know it is on the way!
-
Mington and Badfinger pretty much got it right.
-
There is one other ending available too.
-
Ah, that sucks. I am guessing low sales or something like that might have contributed to the non-release? This review by Joystiq pretty much nails my feelings about the game: http://www.joystiq.com/2012/11/28/sonic-and-all-stars-racing-transformed-review/#continued

heheh, well it is a fun title and it has been released at a low budget. As long as you ignore the shitty things SEGA is doing to the Shinning Force Youtube people it feels like a return to form. If you get it on X360 at some point, let me know and we should do some Xbox LIVE multiplayer.
-
Oh it is good game in its own right. Even if it is liberally using mechanics from Outrun 2, Pilot Wings and Mario Kart. That this also shamelessly warms my SEGA cockles at the same time, done with a warmness that can only be exhibited by people who genuinely love these old games (as SUMO digital clearly do), is no problem. For me anyway.
-
Oh yeah, it has both a Golden Axe and Afterburner level which has the music from both of them faithfully recreated. And there are Panzer Dragoon and Burning Rangers levels as well.
-
I am surprised that my stat says I've spent 57 hours in the last year on multiplayer but a whopping 354 hours on TV/movie Apps. That has to be wrong as I have dropped at least 20 hours in Awesomenauts alone.

Thanks for the tip! Have been meaning to buy this for a while and that convinced me.

Escort & Stalking missions: did any game ever do them well?
twmac replied to Erkki's topic in Video Gaming
That trailer has very little to do with the actual game. I did really like the game because it felt so very different to most of the things I've played. There is a level of Japanese game design that can verge on utterly frustrating. I wrote a companion piece inspired by another blogger called 'The Eleventh Colossus'. All the links are below: http://badgercommand...nights-contract I can see why you would not have purchased based on that Destructoid review (and he isn't wrong - that boss fight is tough) but it actually made me more curious about the game. -

Already did: http://www.arcadianrhythms.com/2011/05/knights-contract-review/ -
I can vouch for Akai Katana, played through it abotu 10 to 15 times and it was great. I knew there was stuff I was missing from the mechanics as I kept getting the screen to melt into gold and primary colours but wasn't exactly sure what was doing that. Under Defeat has some really interesting mechanics and isn't quite on the level of bullet-hell. It is not the best game out there and some of the 3-D models look a bit clunky but I am enjoying it. Thunder, if you have any interest I would say that you would be best starting off with Trouble Witches NEO!, Raiden Fighters Aces and Triggerheart Excelica (possibly R-Type but I know Sno disagrees for valid reasons) both are very simple games with a little but not too much crazy going on. Or if you want to jump right in Mushihimesama Futari is the way to go, heh. EDIT: I know some one who has all 1000 achievement points in Senko No Ronde.

GREV also made the massively underrated Senko No Ronde.

I also 'beat' him. My criticism of the bosses is that because they act as gates towards more content it means that it constrains how I played the rest of the game. I ignored alchemy and magic because I needed to be able to hit them as hard as possible. They were only a fraction of the gameplay but their impact on the whole was immense. As for Dragon's Dogma, the world feels a lot like a combination of Oblivion and Dark Souls. There is plenty to see but you have to be careful as sometimes you will wander into areas that will get you murdered. The levelling system and Pawn structure is awesome and the big encounters are deeply satisfying. Overall it might be my game of the year.
-
Maybe I am being overly harsh but I found the combat clumsy. I basically only used one spell and a couple of traps but it was disappointing to see them become pointless in every boss battle as you basically had to hit them with your sword for any hope of winning. This had a fallout on how I levelled as it would have been nice to experiment with the levelling system but I was always aware that there would be bosses that would essentially be immune to half my repertoire and only really susceptible to hitting. For an RPG it is pretty good, but played so closely to Dragon's Dogma that really does have a fantastic combat system, Witcher 2 looks half-arsed and gauche.

Have finished 53 games so far this year, and I am still conflicted but my list for favourites: Awesomenauts - My favourite multiplayer this year, a side scrolling LoMA. Witcher 2 (X360) - Great story but terrible gameplay still a pretty great RPG Dragon's Dogma - Terrible story but great gameplay, the RPG antithesis of Witcher. I dropped about 70 hours on it though Spec Ops: The Line - This game has had me thinking about individual moments in it more than any other game except Witcher 2 Dust: An Elysian tale - Beautiful to look at and delightful to play, very simple but a great palette cleanser after the rest of things I mucked around with The Walking Dead - Definitely been enjoying all of these and cannot wait for the conclusion. Would like to go back and replay it and see how some of the story elements hold up before I would put it as number 1. Way of the Samurai 4 - More of the same but it was so good that I cannot recommend it enough. Can't wait for my Christmas break to get really stuck in. Games I liked as well: Tokyo Jungle XCOM: Enemy Unknown Binary Domain

At one point they were talking about pushing it back into next year, which might have been better for me as I have been meaning to finish a few games first. I am playing HD remake of Jet Set Radio now and I am still enjoying it but some of the controls are so damn clunky I can hardly imagine going back to the DC version without the upgraded camera controls. The fact that I blitzed through the entire game in two sittings when it first came out baffles me. @I_Smell, fair enough it does seem that we are arguing more over aesthetics than we are over technical achievements. I think that MGS2 has aged poorly in terms of visuals whereas I think that NiGHTS and Jet Set Radio haven't and I thought that was what you were trying to say. If you just think that the style is dumb, I guess the visuals aren't for everyone.
