This just reminds me of this Amy Poehler moment. Gringor being the Fallon in this case http://www.goodreads.com/quotes/777682-amy-poehler-was-new-to-snl-and-we-were-all
  2. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

So my conversation ended. Probably going to cut the guy adrift on facebook as I am still confused as to what he was getting at but if anyone is interested in reading it I have a messy copy/paste.
  3. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

I am currently talking to an old friend of mine about some comments about Anita Sarkeesian he made on Facebook. It is painful because it came up in a thread between him and three of our other mutual friends. It actually made me grimace when it started because the three of them are all overweight, single, white males in their mid to late twenties, who are into games. It made me cringe because the cliche sometimes is true. Anyway I singled him out in a private chat conversation simply because the other two are so far gone down an MRA hole that dealing with them is just an invite for all out hostility. The conversation isn't over yet but I might post it up (with identities obscured) once it is done.

Apart from the use of 'ran roughshod' (you cannot run only ride), it was a pretty coherent piece. But because I have now found one flaw in one sentence, your entire argument is now invalid.
  5. THE EVIL WITHIN: Slurms MacKenzie

In regards to the day one patch - this is not limited to Evil Within. I believe Wolfenstein had a pretty shocking day one patch - I was tempted to write a review for it with patch applied and one without. That Eurogamer article serves to push what I feared was going to happen with this generation of consoles - that although both would drop the requirement for being connected online you'd still need to be connected online anyway. Toblix - okay, this isn't the same but Borderlands changed its art direction relatively late in development. Although I still suspect that the changes were made because of the engine I am not going to go 'damning evidence!' Dr. Proton, bummer you didn't like it. I still haven't got past Chapter 3 yet so I am going to reserve my judgement on this - I actually really like the stealth.
  6. RE: Glutton for punishment - Same here, so I think that this will be my Christmas game.
  7. Twig if you need anymore justification for your thoughts. video gamer just put a very solid review of this game. http://www.video gamer.com/reviews/styx_master_of_shadows_review.html I cannot wait to play this game.
  8. THE EVIL WITHIN: Slurms MacKenzie

So, got to play a portion of this over the weekend and I am really liking it so far(enough that I think I am going to prioritise it over Alien: Isolation). There were some really nice touches in the opening encounter that seem to work as a slap in the face. For example - you see this scary dude and you can sneak up and stab him in the back, but if you do that he will kill you every time. It is like the game is saying 'get your priorities in line with what the game's are' Other than that I have been doing a lot of running away and hiding - as well as ducking under trip wires so that my enemies run into them instead. Another thing I liked is that the main character spent a large portion of the time I played limping. This irritated everyone else that I was hot seating with but I thought it was a nice acknowledgement that no other game does this when a player character is significantly injured.

Yeah, someone mentioned that the article went up after Giant Bomb got called out: Posted by Splodge - October 13, 2014 at 1:17 PM Good article Patrick. A tad too late tho, Brianna already called out GB on MSNBC for doing nothing

Kinect is the more fun way to play and it works pretty well when you realise that you actually have to sit down (standing up messes things up). The weirdness of waving fits the game. However, there are a couple of points where switching to a controller (there is one specific point in the game that immediately springs to mind) will save you some grief.
  11. I've played Of Orcs and Men and it is very average; it uses the combat system from the Game of Thrones game and it is not implemented well.
  12. Hmmmm. http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/styx-master-of-shadows/critic-reviews That means that it is not bad.
  13. Well, for ages it was just Styx, the suffix of the name seems to be a more recent thing. I need to resist downloading it, I have Forza Horizon 2, Alien: Isolation right now and I will have Evil Within, Sunset Overdrive and Lords of the Fallen. nj00s, the link I sent you has a twitch stream of the game, might be worth checking out. Regardless, I will buy this, just not now.
  14. THE EVIL WITHIN: Slurms MacKenzie

I made it worse. Looking forward to this game more now that I have heard about things like the stringent ammo count and the fact that some enemies like being shot. Not pure horror but tension is ramped up due to constant management of equipment and enemies. I wonder whether you will ever be able to get to a point where you cannot complete the game.
  15. Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

Hahhahahah - I hate you Mike.
  16. Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

I am giving up on Fallout: New Vegas. It was dull.
  17. Pathologic

I got drunk and dropped 200 dollars on the Kickstarter (I seem to remember mentioning this in a separate thread) I guess we are going to find out as it just got funded.
  18. THE EVIL WITHIN: Slurms MacKenzie

Spec discussion seems to be high on the list of things people are posting about at the moment (Shadow of Mordor thread is dominated by performance and spec stuff too). Have we come to that point again? I seem to remember that the last time this was a big deal was around the release of Bioshock in 2007. I know I am contributing to it with my post of 1GB VRAM link but I am now disappointed every time I see an update to some thread and it is someone going 'mine runs with a WGAF 22003490 flawlessly with all the flux capacitor settings dialled to middle of last week'. It must be exciting somewhere but I imagine this is the equivalent of when PC gamers read Console gamers rejoicing about a game coming to their chosen platform or bemoaning some kind of exclusive DLC deal.
  19. THE EVIL WITHIN: Slurms MacKenzie

There has been an update that says you don't need that kind of card: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-09-26-bethesda-warns-you-should-have-4gb-of-vram-to-play-the-evil-within-pc it is now 1GB VRAM
  20. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Having just gone on to re-read the Leigh Alexander piece, you've omitted the 4-5 sentences in between those two parts that, rather than combining the two images illustrates the path from being a person who is, unquestioningly, passionately standing in line for a product they don't really know anything about to a person who unquestioningly, passionately argues on a topic that they don't really know anything about. I can see how some might read it 'these people, all these people, are the same' (in fact it seems to be the main problem in this entire debate similar to the uproar that occurred when women started pointing out that men raping women wasn't cool and men reacted by going 'ARE YOU SAYING ALL MEN ARE RAPISTS?') but for me it is drawing parallels in the mind set. That just me though, and what the hell do I know. I posted this piece in the Feminist thread a while back and people were kind of baffled by it. But the more I watch this stuff happening the more this article rings true: http://www.arcadianrhythms.com/2013/10/releasing-the-inner-man-child/
  21. Our favourite moments of play

There is a moment I shared with my housemate in, believe it or not, Kane & Lynch. That will stay with me forever, it was beautiful. I wrote it up for a review so I will see if I can dig it up. Of course, there are some amazing moments in Far Cry 2 (rocket misfiring when I am standing in front of a truck, accidentally burning myself while in the middle of a firefight, sniping an enemy in the leg and then seeing someone try and rescuing them - I shot them too)
  22. Dark Messiah

I went and watched this trailer again - man, a lot has changed in 8 years. The fact that we don't really blink at a 395MB is one thing.
  23. Played it again recently. Yeah, I can see that. It is mainly the film director though and the rest comes off as affectionate parody.
  24. I was coming here to comment on both Power Stone 2 and Kung Fu Chaos. They were both awesome. Kung Fu Chaos is never likely to see a sequel because now all the devs make things like Hell Blade and Enslaved.
  25. Dragon's Dogma

My buddy ended up playing through the tutorial and fighting the dragon. He took on the Cyclops at the beginning and promptly died. The good news was that he was sold on the game and is going to play it on his PS3 when he gets home. Success!
