So, this was just thrown at me during a discussion on the T-Shirt stuff. https://fbcdn-sphotos-g-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-xpa1/v/t1.0-9/1560494_719339444809818_6531729525459327749_n.jpg?oh=0f4793c7e020c86f37dd032c1e5b38c3&oe=54DE7047&__gda__=1424567418_6d5c68179927d49aa6c01eba854d211d

I love the deployables - they are my favourite weapon type but I wouldn't have known that if it hadn't been for what you mentioned above. It feels like Insomniac have learnt so much over the last few years. I was playing Resistance: Fall of Man recently and it has the homing bullet gun that is awesome but you basically use it for the entire game because, well why would you bother with anything else? Miffy, once you have water run, smash and then jump, and Air dash - you should have all of the traversal abilities. Before playing online I would strongly recommend playing through until you unlock the mini rocket launchers as a deployable trap. If you are interested in Multiplayer I am definitely up for some more, let me know!

So, this happened around the Rosetta mission: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/science/space/11231320/Rosetta-mission-scientist-Dr-Matt-Taylor-cries-during-apology-over-offensive-shirt.html It was a dumb move on his part, as a representative on a stream you owe it to yourself to not court the controversy and distract everyone from the really cool thing that is happening. I guess this is a knee jerk reaction on my part though that goes 'how big a deal is this?' Because if a woman were to wear something that inapropriate on a broadcast like that you can bet there would have been nothing but these articles decrying how she shouldn't have come on. The more salubrious of newspapers in the UK would have had something snarky to comment on it. Anyway rambling now, I'll let Total Biscuit set my mind at ease: https://twitter.com/Totalbiscuit/status/533288920025681920?t=1&cn=cmVjb3NfbmV0d29ya19kaWdlc3Q%3D&sig=dc85692442ec60a2675e2aabd8621e17bccc5327&al=1&iid=64772ef0c7804f0a99cd74d6a04e11b8&autoactions=1416040135&uid=236434615&nid=244+1489+20141112 Okay, yeah, that T-shirt should not have been worn.
  4. Social Justice

At first I thought he was going somewhere interesting, like campaigning for more diversity in front of and behind the camera. But no, it went back to the age old 'why make him Indian just for the sake of making him Indian'. There is a nugget of something in there (I believe that the debate was brought up when discussing the ethnicity of the character in Firewatch) but it is buried under a ton of bullshit that makes no sense.
  5. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

I am surprised that there isn't a score system at the end of that picture. I mean, on the oppression scale, how do nerds score?
  6. Sunset Overdrive

Okay. I would have settled for a 'yes, you are stretching it'.
  7. Sunset Overdrive

I thought about it and it is something that is comical that happens in a way that you don't expect it. So guy complains that he will never get to play a game because he won't own the console and damn Microsoft. Microsoft releases on another platform and you think people would go 'yay' but instead damn Microsoft anyway for not keeping their exclusives properly exclusive. (EDIT: this is not aimed directly at you Twig you were just part of the group of people that I have noticed that follow a trend) I think that fits irony, or am I stretching the definition? Anyway, to not be part of the problem. The story missions do get a lot better, there is a set piece with a boss that takes place on the top of a building that the initial traversal reminded me a lot of scaling the building in Crackdown. The boss itself has been spoiled a lot in the press material but it was still a hell of a lot of fun. At the same time - I don't think it is the shooting that is fun it is the traversal that is the most important part the shooting is just for points and most of the time I just run from mission to the next ignoring the enemies. The much derided humour is a legit complaint, it grates so hard. It made me realise that I am getting old though, I was listening to the Gamers with Jobs podcast and one of the guy's kids (who is about 10 years old) thinks it is hilarious. Video Gamer has been pretty harsh on the game but I can see why. The combo meters aren't all that important in the main thrust of the game, if you loose meter you don't feel like you are being punished for it, however in multiplayer a bad player can ruin your chances of getting a good overall team score. Your individual combo meters and scores contribute to a larger pool and if you don't keep it going then everyone misses out on more points. I am almost done with The Evil Within so I am looking forward to spending a lot more time with Sunset Overdrive.

I guess I fell into the other camp in that regard. Apart from Bloodborne there is nothing else I want on the PS4 and I am not invested in PC gaming (I have played 4 PC games in the last 7 years). For me it is one of those things I have started to see increasingly across comments threads. "Oh man, I want this game but Xbone exclusive" I had this problem on the previous generation whereby people held out for the exclusive awesome stuff on the PS3 and some of it never came to fruition (Last Guardian, Final Fantasy XIII Versus) and the rest went multiplatform (Tekken, Devil May Cry). It seems like there are just so many odd nuances to the perceptions of the two console giants right now. Sony gets valued for keeping its exclusives completely exclusive and Microsoft gets dragged over the coals for platform parity and derided for allowing titles to be released on other platforms. Sorry this is getting a bit ranty but I guess that is part of the fact that this thread has more posts talking about how they wish this was coming to a console they would buy (because ironically all the Xbone exclusives come out on PC later so why buy it - damned if you do, damned if you don't) rather than focusing on anythign remotely positive about the title it just bums me out.
  9. Sunset Overdrive

Twig - there are now 3 games that you want to play on the Bone. If you can find two more, I would recommend getting one (that is the tipping point for me on any console) as there are more than enough good things coming out (some of the smaller offerings like Chariot and Volgar the Viking are great too). Is there something stopping you financially from doing this? Otherwise, it is starting to seem like a knife to the nose to spite the face scenario.
  10. Sunset Overdrive

Yeah - I am of the same opinion as Miffy (wait until you get the air dash that means combos all the time, every time) this is a great game to play in short bursts. It also has a fantastic and robust multiplayer. What surprised me the most is that I absolutely love the traversal and weapon specific side missions - more so than the story ones.

So they are just doxxing anyone now: http://digg.com/2014/when-gamergate-hits-the-wrong-target
  12. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

These people are insane. It is at times like these that you need a 'This Ming is a psycho' Flash Gordon gif
  13. I don't know if Jake meant it in this way but I am culturally damaged. I cannot watch Die Hard, Terminator, Predator or pretty much any prominent 80s action film in the new super duper Blu Ray versions. I absolutely hate them as I need the scuzzy artifacting and the slightly blurry camera for it to seem 'real'. The same goes for certain 90s coming-of-age or dumb comedies, they look wrong. The worst is definitely Die Hard, which I just can't enjoy in 1080p and clean. This isn't the same for most of the other genres released in the 80s or 90s just those specific types - I cannot explain it.
  14. THE EVIL WITHIN: Slurms MacKenzie

Oh man, just finished Chapter 9 and I found it deeply stressful. Still loving it and can't wait to finish. Spyder, I have a few bits of constructive criticism for the piece. Going to wait until I finish the game adn write my own review and then let you know (I'll PM you through the forum).
  15. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

Jean Grae has released another EP, this is a lot mellower than her early stuff: https://jeangrae.bandcamp.com/ What entertained me even more was the email I got: I always enjoy getting these as they are delightfully unrestrained - like she wrote it when she was drunk and didn't bother to edit aftewards
  16. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Okay, so I listened to the whole thing. Totalbiscuit is very leading with his questions but at least maintains a tone of civility. I think he imagines himself as some kind of Jeremy Paxman of the gaming world, asking the tough questions and getting the answers but it is weird because a lot of the things he ask seem kind of childish. His closing statement about listening to the put-upon and not feeding the trolls is a nice one but at the same time - how will you know? From my link a few pages back - the guy I spoke to on facebook seemed to consider himself a genuine member of the 'concerned' party (he went as far as to call me a troll) and yet his rhetoric was all troll. So if I then had stifled him, or ignored him, I would have been accused of censorship.
  17. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Okay, this was all for jokes: http://www.arcadianrhythms.com/2014/11/stupid-comment-of-the-month-6-totally-not-about-gamergate/ But it entertained me to talk to the guy and then write about it.
  18. Lords of the Fallen: Clunky Souls

There are spider like creatures within about 30 minutes in. I played up until the second boss and I really liked it. It is Dark Soulslite all the way but it will definitely scratch and itch.
  19. Video Game Baby - Idle Parents

Yeah, I don't know what they did to the jumping in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island but I hated it; it was like being underwater. The aesthetic was nice and I did not object to the escort element but the core mechanics just seemed to be broken. Super Mario Land on the Gameboy is Godlike and comes in my top three of the 2-D Mario games. Top 5 overall.
  20. THE EVIL WITHIN: Slurms MacKenzie

Okay, so I am now on Chapter 5, walking at a snails pace. I would love to replay this in the vein of the Killer 7 and Shadow of the Collossus playthroughs we did earlier as I think each level has enough going on to be able to talk about them. Chapter 3 and 4 were really strong and I am liking that Chapter 5 isn't creeping me out as much. I really love the way this game keeps trying to mix things up and play with your expectations - there is a scene where you have to look through three holes - not spoiling anything but bits like that add layers to the atmosphere. Looking forward to playing some more tonight after some MP Monaco.
  21. Life

I totally replaced the 'l' in 'walk' with an 'n'.
  22. Life

Those last two comments have given me a better perspective on my own problems. Sorry to hear you guys are going through such a rough period. I was plagued by depression in my late teens and early twenties and it still reers its ugly head from time to time but never to the point of disconnect from people. I suffer from an inability to properly empathise with people (as in to emotionally feel for other people - I do understand when people are suffering and recognise that it sucks), that I think was triggered by the heavy depression years, I am getting better at it. Megaspel - it sounds to me like you should be talking to someone professional about this because that sounds like the lowest point of depression. Self-medication is never something I recommend. I got married about 4-5 months ago and my, now, wife is going through the painful process of trying to reapply for a VISA. I was going to write a sob story about the stress of trying to balance a job and deal with getting all the documentation together, talking to lawyers as well as my wife freaking out about it in the middle of the night or first thing in the morning (or, basically whenever I am emotionally unavailable). Really though, I have met this awesome person who is willing to risk spending an inordinate amount of time with me and seems to be able to put up with my shit. The struggle that is currently gone is like a validation of it being worhtwhile.
  23. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

But the comic clearly defines it as a rat. It is like he didn't even read it.
  24. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Hhahahahah, that is priceless (and, I hope, a joke).
  25. THE EVIL WITHIN: Slurms MacKenzie

Okay, I realise that, once again, I am a baby. I am on chapter 4 right now and it took multiple attempts to get there simply because I get so freaked out by the atmosphere of the game. Still loving it but I am going at a snail's pace. I actually pause the game and watched the horror films 'Sinister' and 'Oculus' as a means of calming down.
