  1. Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

Good man, I played that game last year and could not stand it. It was everything that Far Cry 2 wasn't, and less.
  2. Feminism

Here is my utterly crappy chronological line of thought: 1 - See it in my facebook thread and see people on my facebook commenting on it who should know better 2 - Do a perfunctory search around injustice weekly, see a bunch of suspect posts (including a response from Lana) but can't find anything that straight up says it is bullshit 3 - Hastily and unthoughtfully post it on here as a sound box, as usually you guys are pretty good at sniffing out a rat and or pointing out stuff I missed as this more and more sounds like someone trying to blame Feminism for the actions of an individual(real or imagined) 4 - Realise I haven't explained why I put it here in the first place and all I am really doing is fueling discontent but don't have time to go into my reasons and quickly post an apology with another half formed thought in the post 5 - Post another apology but don't want to justify it because I feel like the damage has been done and an apology would be better Basically - I am at work and busy with other stuff and should never have posted the original link without explaining myself fully and then continued to not do so. Anyway, I don't think I needed that point about individuals vs movement explained to me twice as I understood that in the first place. Sorry, won't post on this thread in haste again. Can't guarantee I won't in other threads though.
  3. Feminism

Not sure I can apologise enough about this.
  4. Feminism

Yeah, sorry about that. I went and did some digging and couldn't find anything saying that this was bullshit and it is getting linked in right wing websites. For me it was head scratcher that I found interesting to see coming up in my facebook feed. The point about the actions of a terrorist should not reflect the attitudes of people of the same ethnicity, gender, sexuality is spot on but given that it hasn't been debunked (yet) I ended up feeling 'well, if it is true then she needs help' and not 'well, this proves to me that Feminism is fucked'
  5. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

The guy who got arrested for it was even called Famed God.
  6. Social Justice

Unlike Synthetic, I love Linklater's stuff. That article did give me a huge pause for thought as I remember cringing at the restaurant scene (Patricia Arquette almost pulled it off) but hadn't noticed how bad the lack of representation was. I think that article also speaks volumes as I think it is just assumed that Texas is just full of red neck white people (if you are not actually from the area). I can certainly vouch for my Canadian partner, who tried to pull that as justification for the film's whiteness, and myself prior to reading that article. Not meant as invalidating that guys article but I would be interested to see if Linklater has any kind of justification for this or whether it is simply a case of him being oblivious to what he is doing.

There is another website - so that you don't have to 'like' to read more. http://www.infowars.com/feminist-i-aborted-my-baby-because-he-was-male/ Of course that site is pretty objectionable too. I just get the feeling that 'Lana' might be in need of mental help.
  8. Feminism

This came up in my facebook feed: http://injusticestories.com/i-aborted-my-baby-because-it-was-a-boy/ Most of the people in thread below the link are calling it hate speech/action.
  9. Blood Bowl

Blood Bowl 2 is out later this year, pretty psyched to return.
  10. Feminism

Yeah, after sending me the link (and before I posted it here) my mum asked me whether I thought that was the answer: to confront the harrassers and let them know how you are making them feel. I answered that I didn't know but that I hoped that it would. The problem is that I am also reading that Lundy Bancroft book and his message is pretty clear - real abusers do not empathise with their victims and quite clearly see themselves as superior. Obviously, I don't want to say that to my mother as she has already read enough internet horror stories to truly despair with where we are heading. Also, in tandem, I am reading the Thomas Ligotti book 'Conspiracy against the Human Race', I might need to read something cheery after this.

    You had me at 'Sega'

So, my mum sent me this link http://www.theguardian.com/society/2015/feb/02/what-happened-confronted-cruellest-troll-lindy-west?CMP=fb_gu
  13. We played different games - Remember Me is the first game in 7 years to make me throw a controller across a room in disgust and irritation. I damaged my Parks and Recreations box set as a result. Walking through those fucking mines, dealing with those invisible enemies... Awful. Edit: Sorry, I don't normally get this angry and argumentative on these forums but Remember Me is so bad that I can feel my shackles rising as I think about it.
  14. Remember Me had really cool dream/memory sequences but everything else was pure dogshit. Platforming was mediocre (sub-Aeon Flux) and the combat is stilted, clumsy nonsense. This looks to remedy the bad parts of Remember Me (ie: remove them completely)
  15. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

I saw that post and actually thought it was a joke. Damn, that annoys the hell out of me as my two daily visits are Joystiq and Eurogamer. Would be good to know where these guys go next as I would like to be able to visit that site instead.
  16. An email I sent to Giantbomb

In the most recent podcast they discussed Saints Row and Dan admitted to not knowing who Jane Austen was. He then told a story about having to call the police after a drunken guy tried to break into his dorm room and stab him; that it ends with him saying that they are still friends is not the outcome I was expecting. So conflicted.
  17. Dying Light

Yeah - I was aware of the disc delay. I am worried though that people weren't getting codes until 12 hours before release. I am definitely hoping that this turns out to be mismangement. However, they also pulled out of EGX:Rezzed and so I couldn't bring myself to buy it or pre-order until I see some reviews from some sites I trust.
  18. Dying Light

Pfft... http://www.forbes.com/sites/insertcoin/2015/01/26/dying-light-promises-no-review-embargoes-delivers-no-review-copies/ Also, these user reviews are highly suspicious: http://www.metacritic.com/game/xbox-one/dying-light Still want to believe as I really enjoyed Dead Island.
  19. Dying Light

Yeah - I am optimistic about this one but I don't like that I am not seeing any reviews yet. Will be playing it on Xbox One, if it turns out to be good.
  20. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

It is really funny that you took it that way as my first exposure to Leigh was also during an E3 Giantbombcast and that was when I fell in love with her. It was really fun to hear her shooting shit and kind of not giving a fuck while talking about stuff. I guess it was for almost the same reason that I am very fond of Dan Ryckert - neither of them seem fazed by what is going on around them.
  21. Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

Phew, I thought it was just me that didn't get how great the game is. I've now played a lot more and the missions are all leaden. The much vaunted bit where you switch between characters during heists doesn't requrie agency or thought and I just did another mission where I had to move some crates. It made Shenmue's similar forklift missions look fucking amazing.
  22. Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

I am on the verge of giving up on GTA V. This game, ignoring the embarassing storyline, is utter dogshit. The controls are clunky just moving around, the cars handle better than they did in GTA III but still have this floaty unsatisfying feeling to them. The shooting is iron-sights whack-a-mole. The missions are all on rails and barely improve on the already bad structure of Vice City. I just did one where I drive somewhere, talk to someone, dismiss some pornography pop-ups from their PC then walk somewhere press a button then walk back and then drive back so that I can trigger a cut-scene and press another button. Rubbish. The world is very interesting to look at for about 10 minutes but the character models are all blocky and the animation is leaden. People keep telling me to stick with it until you meet Trevor but I really can't be arsed (and that means I might try and finish it anyway).
  23. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

She calls out Elizabeth Spiers in her 'fuck you' section. Elizabeth Spiers replied: http://www.elizabethspiers.com/on-the-matter-of-weev-vs-kane/ EDIT: Finished the whole piece and this part is particularly important to me: "I also want readers to note that the "redemption" narrative that people are looking for me to manifest here is hugely problematic, centering white people's feelings and experiences, our personal growth over dismantling oppressive systems, and our need to feel like we are "good people." As I've written in the past, I don't believe that "good person" as a framework to approaching systemic inequalities is useful. I don’t think I am a good or bad person. I am a person who has done good things and bad things, and I try to do more good things as I grow. "

My feelings on Whiplash. If it is not clear from the spoilers - I loved it.
