  1. Social Justice

I read this piece recently and I think it works really well: http://driftingthrough.com/2015/11/20/the-thing-all-women-do-that-you-dont-know-about/ "So routine that we go through the motions of ignoring it and minimizing. Not showing our suppressed anger and fear and frustration. A quick cursory smile or a clipped laugh will allow us to continue with our day. We de-escalate. We minimize it. Both internally and externally, we minimize it. We have to. To not shrug it off would put is in confrontation mode more often than most of us feel like dealing with."

Damnit, why are Play-Asia doing something so dumb? I used them fairly regularly at one point, this diminishes my enthusiasm in using them again.
  3. To be honest, it was the Kingpin that kept me interested. Daredevil himself was pretty terrible. Daredevil also ended up on the list of things we put on before we went to sleep. Except I would usually retrace and watch what I missed the next day, not bothering with that on Jessica Jones.
  4. I have watched 3 episodes of Jessica Jones and it has not grabbed me in the slightest. My partner and I watch it to fall asleep to and it has been working pretty well so far. I have no interest in the character (another private eye who hates everyone including themselves), no interest in the plot (unlike Daredevil they feel the need to neatly sew things up at the end of episodes and makes each one feel like a vignette rather than a proper overarching story), the acting is fine but I literally can't bring myself to care. Master of None, however, has been brilliant. Binged through 8 episodes but am now scared to finish it because then it will be over. The Nashville episode is the standout one for me.
  5. This forum is weird (Look a new topic!)

I think I joined in 2005, and I still have deference to certain posters, and some of those people joined after me. This is definitely a weird forum, it was the first one I joined and it is the only one I have stuck with. There was a moment for a few weeks (months?) where the forums were closed down - I didn't really know what to do and was relieved when they came back. I couldn't imagine trying to get used to another.
  6. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

    What is a game? Sorry.
  7. I guess what bothers me about this strip is that Kamitani is sort of being hailed as a hero. After his response to Ben Kuchera over the Dragon's Crown criticism (where he sent him a bunch of half naked dwarves implying that he must be gay if he didn't like the portrayal of women); I find it hard to enjoy the implications.
  8. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

"Why we can't have nice things" actually talks about that Troll mentality a lot. They bait mainstream media with some outlandish claim and then see if anyone bites. If someone does, they double down on it to expose how corrupt the media is, if the media don't then they go to the next attempt until they get something in the news. All actions are justified in attempts to expose the 'truth' about how compromised our media is.
  9. Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham. This is my second attempt at a Lego game and it is as bad as the last one in terms of plodding play. It is even worse in terms of direction especially for an inexperienced player. My partner really struggled with it as she was forever missing prompts, jumps and struggled with the multi-suit feature. It didn't help that she and I both found the music really stressful. Have deleted it from my backlog and my hard drive and I don't think I will ever play another Lego game.

Man, it is funny to see so many parallels with "Backlash", the book Susan Faludi wrote back in 1991.

On X360 you could fix the Country music problem by rotating through the radio channels until you got to the custom soundtrack which would link to any ripped CDs. I imagine the PC will have something similar.

Lost Planet 2 is one of my favourite games of the last generation. The way that Co-Op works is genius because it can be massively punishing when you don't know what you are doing but becomes immensely rewarding when you start working together. Also, from a design perspective the level you are talking about is so good because you start in a two carriage section sniping enemies then have to run up the other train, with a strong possibility for instant death and then culminate in that boss fight. Each section feels distinct and every section of that game is like that. There is one section that starts as an assault on ship turns into a tower defence game and then becomes something similar to a single-lane Lords Management with you having to defend your base against armed 'creeps' while trying to fight your way to their respective base and blow it up.

Yeah, I am starting to get weirded out by the number of people who keep giving Lost Planet 3 the thumbs up with caveat. The game was summarily shit on by almost everyone at release (then again, so was Lost Planet 2 and that game is amazing).
  14. Life is Strange: Tween Peaks

The Polygon review/conversation/spoiler thread kind of nails a lot of my dissatisfaction with the final episode. http://www.polygon.com/2015/10/21/9589174/life-is-strange-episode-5-review-polarized The score is about what I would give it.
  15. Life is Strange: Tween Peaks

Wouldn't give it 0 out of 10 but I pretty much agree with most of what you wrote. The game felt like it came close to its conclusion in Chapter 4 and then had nothing to say or do in chapter 5, outside of the final 5 minutes. It was an unfortunate ending to an otherwise really enjoyable deviation from the TellTale formula. I would be interested, in spoiler tags, in hearing what people chose to do.

I should have confirmed when I saw them at EGX but I was too busy playing Steamworld Heist (which is good but not Steamworld Dig levels of good - think 2-D, sideways scrolling X-Com). I find it impossible to believe that they aren't linked. They have step ladders, drills that can break through rock and depend on fuel (that need to be upgraded), the light mechanic works the same way too (you need fuel and you can upgrade it's diameter). They have fixed certain things by introducing wall jumps and got rid of that annoying drill sound, and they got rid of the Mineshafts and the 'if you drill too much away in certain areas you will cause a collapse' mechanic. It is the closest to a Miner Dig Deep sequel you will ever get. My buddy calls it 'Miner Dig Deep 2: Robot edition'

I fucking love Steamworld Dig - it is sort of a sequel to my favourite Xbox Live Indie Game called Miner Dig Deep. The reason I loved both games was their simplicity. I finally got to play the game on Xbox One and went through in two sittings and apart from the combat - it was really, wonderfully, peaceful. I went back before Halo 5: Guardians, and finished the Anniversary edition of Halo: Combat Evolved. I have forgotten how good this game was - the pacing, the setting and the setpieces. It has barely aged from that perspective, except for The Library - it is still rubbish.
  18. The Great Co-op Thread

I might boot Warframe again and tweak the controls, what I played of it was really good and there was just more to do than in Destiny. On top of that I am also excited about counch Co-Op for Divinity. However, I am not sure my partner is going to be able to play it so I might wait until it isn't 45 pounds before risking getting it.
  19. Thomas Was Alone

Agreed, I finished the game last week and man by the end I was just, really happy.
  20. The Great Co-op Thread

I played it on Xbox One and it never quite gelled with me as it feels like the twitchiness was meant for a mouse and Keyboard - if they have improved that and are still patching I could see myself getting back into it because the content was more elaborate and fun than Destiny (being a cyborg Ninja is always appealing. If you don't mind a bit of grind then you pretty much never have to spend money

Perfect timing really (in terms of Tales from the Borderlands): http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2015-10-23-tales-from-the-borderlands-review

Also finished up Episode 5 and apart from the poor tech handling on Xbox One (some sequences juddered to a halt for no real reason), I also loved it. Dewar, it is not as referential as Borderlands 2 (Burch seems to have done some writing on it but his influence isn't felt as heavily) but there are some great moments of this series poking fun at Telltale's 'template'. I also liked the angle of unreliable narrator and it worked well as the game flipped between the two. I think it was mentioned on the Justice Points podcast (about Mass Effect and Dragon Age) that normally you play as the 'best' version of yourself but in Tales from the Borderlands you can just be a total douche and enjoy the outcome of being a dick as it is pretty humourous. So, as someone who felt that some of the humour whiffed completely in Borderlands 2, I think there are way more hits in this. I also didn't think I was interested in a game focused on the story elements of Borderlands but this might be my second favourite of the telltale series, behind TWD Season 1.
  23. Let's discuss what a video game is

Deleted this post. I was annoyed at being treated like I am some kind of cannon fodder in a Beat-em up. Sorry about that.
  24. Where in the World - Idle Thumbs Map

Krakow is weird - I was there about 6 years ago with a gay black man as a travelling buddy and although the area is beautiful in a ex-soviet block knd of way (I also ended up getting super drunk in a weird Middle Earth themed Pub surrounded by emo teenagers). Buuut, we arrived the day of a football match and it was really scary and we ended up hiding in a restaurant while jack booted skin heads marched past, chanting.
  25. Where in the World - Idle Thumbs Map

I am in Warsaw for three months. The City is actually really cool, it has the best Veggie burger I have ever had, there are tons of cool little drinking places, loads of gigs and the climbing centre in town is pretty good too.
