I love this thread and I wish I could contribute but due to a combination of moving house a lot, multiple computer hard drive failures and also I would occasionally come across something I had kept and proceed to burn it out of embarrassment.

Official Giant Bomb Thread Mostly for Complaining About Dan

I also never got along with the parries in MGR, I had to play it on Easy with auto-parries to beat the final boss. I liked it, but I was glad that it was over as I kind of hated the last boss.- 1367 replies

Alien: Covenant (and all other Alien-related stuff)
twmac replied to baekgom84's topic in Movies & Television
Alien 3 is the Halloween III: Season of the Witch of Alien films. There, I said it, it was terrible to do it. But I had to. Am I the only one that likes Hicks then? For me, he was the 'awshucks' male ally in Ripley's struggle to deal with the patriarchy. He is taciturn and likable in the ways that Clint Eastwood's silent protagonists rarely are. -
Official Giant Bomb Thread Mostly for Complaining About Dan

The multiplayer being so contentious I think was a good reason to stop DOOM making it to number one. I played that multiplayer beta and never wanted to play the game again. Then the single player demo came out and I changed my mind. I am still waiting for it to drop in price, simply for how bitter a taste the MP beta left in my mouth. It is utterly irrational because I am never going to play the MP but it just lurks in the back of mind how much I hated it. Agreed on the repeated phrases! As for Titanfall 2 - ugh, I would have put that on biggest disappointment of the year.- 1367 replies

Official Giant Bomb Thread Mostly for Complaining About Dan

I just finished all five days and overall I loved it. The passion about Lucky Palmer struck me as an important point to make especially among the GB fanbase that do have a lot of lulz types that probably think it is great that Palmer spent loads of money on that stupidity. The top ten was pretty painful but I appreciated how much our tastes differ. I hated TF2, I've not played Overwatch, and I thought Hyper Light Drifter was a complete missfire. That didn't stop me smiling as Dan tried to defend Star Dew Valley, despairing when people changed their votes for Overcooked as they realised it was getting too many votes and one of their other favourites might not make the top ten, and the horror that they were talking about removing Inside. Good fucking times and a great way to start the year.- 1367 replies

Okay, that is a fair take on it, I like that take on it. However, it doesn't work for me on the basis that they make the bombing run and shooting pilots faceless (unlike later in the film when you see the X-Wing and Y-Wing pilots faces when they are being heroes). This is cake and eat it stuff, also there i nothing to indicate Diego Luna's conflict in crisis. So instead, you just have two uninteresting characters doing something because a script dictates that it must.

Horses for courses I suppose. I sort of liked the gay couple played by Donnie Yen and the dude with the beard.

Went to see it last night and about halfway through the film I leaned over to my partner and said 'this is a bit shit, isn't it?'. She gave a sigh of relief and went 'yes!' There was so much fan service in this film and, to be honest, noting the stuff was about the only thing that got me through the film. All of the characters were bland and it wasn't helped by the fact that Felicity Jones is pretty terrible. I've now seen her in 4-5 films and she is always the lowest point in them. After this film I am making a mental note to avoid films with her as the star. Diego Luna is also going to be one to avoid as he just did nothing with his role (such as it was). The film presents two interesting ideas at the beginning and then does a hard pivot away from them almost immediately. In the opening Ben Mendelsohn's character talks about bringing peace to the universe, and that seemed cool, what if the empire was littered with guys like him that actually thought he was working towards something good under the guise of tyranny. But no, he is a big bad who delights in watching a whole city get wiped out. On the other side, Diego Luna's character (I cannot remember any of the characters' name so have had to stick with the actor names, sorry) murdering an informant because he wouldn't be able to escape also gives an interesting twist. The alliance's hands are also stained with blood in a quest for the greater good. Luna could have been a tragic pseudo-villain. But no, he can't snipe Mads at a pivotal moment in the film because all of a sudden he has to do the 'right' thing. Of course the guy he was going to assassinate died anyway because of 'Hunger Games' logic where heroes don't have to be sullied. It would have been a way more interesting film if had killed Jones's father and then the film would have had to go to some dark places in reconciling that for the final scenes in the film. Like many have already stated, I just didn't care about any of these characters so as they got picked off one by one I just shrugged. Also, fuck that stupid fucking robot, I found it deeply irritating.

It pleases me no end to see mentions of Dragon's Dogma in the year of 2016. I played it to death on the X360 and would happily buy it again either as back compat or remaster. I wrote a piece on my top 5 as well as some honourable mentions. But in list form: 5. Inside 4. ReCore 3. Forza Horizon 3 2. Overcooked! 1. Kingdom: New Lands Honourable mentions: 10 Second Ninja X The Division The Final Station Titanfall Virginia Firewatch ABZU Banner Saga 2

I wrote about ReCore and a few other games in my list of top 5 games of the year. Medium has now become my catchall for all my writing, thanks to whoever it was that suggested using it for the Idle Writing Club. https://medium.com/@twmac/my-favourites-games-of-2016-7d619d6ddd50#.vrxahkrlm

I wanted to come back to this now that I finished ReCore too. Agree 100% with everything. Despite all of this ReCore is still in my top 5 games of 2016. My real complaint is that the 'filler' that they force you to do near the end of the game is enjpoyable enough that if they had shifted to a linear progression game and just lined up those dungeons at the end of the game without forcing you to do all the bullshit to unlock Prismatic Cores, I would have very little to complain about. The moment to moment gameplay is so fun that I really didn't care about the repetition as much as I thought I would. Also, forearmed with the knowledge of the Core hunt at the end I actually managed to pick up about 90% of the amount needed to finish the big bad boss. I really hope they make a sequel because a lot of the work that is here is so much fun.

TRT is my favourite of Wes Anderson's films. The things that people are pointing out as being incoherent or not fleshed out enough are the things I love about that film. Tenebaums feels like a film that exists in a world where narratives started before the film began and continue after it is over. People are introduced that don't have a lot of relevance but they exist because the world exists. I also find the strength of everyone's relationship with Gene Hackman that tells the most important parts of the film. The story about his buddy taking him to the hospital after he got stabbed, exemplifies everyone's feelings towards Tenebaum. As for weakest - Darjeeling whatever it was called, and Bottle Rocket are my least favourite.

Just finished the campaign for Overcooked! So much fun, so much shouting at my partner and her shouting at me. My favourite local multiplayer of the year.

Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.
twmac replied to Tanukitsune's topic in Video Gaming
I played the first 3 back-to-back. The first is really dull to play, the second is much better, but the third doesn't bring anything new to the table and looked worse in places than 2. Even though 2 is good, if you are finding the shooting tedious in 1 then don't bother continuing. There is a line about clowns that is awesome but you can just Youtube it instead of playing 20 hours of games that you don't like. -
Yup, it is always 50 waves. My full team on Sunday managed to get to wave 41 on casual in less than an houe. Also, welcome back! Your avatar has always unnerved me,

I also binged the four episodes of Gilmore Girls (also rewatching the final episode of season 7 to get me back in the mood). It is hugely fanservicey but after 10 years it felt satisfying in a way that I didn't think I could be satisfied by having random people showing up for 5 minutes to say 'hey, remember me?'. This run also shows up season 7 for how bad it was and how manipulative that that final episode was at the end of that season. In your spoiler bit Jennegatron - I actually spent most of yesterday fuming.

My favourite bit of your review: " There is an alternate universe where the Iraq war never happened, and also where Donald Rumsfeld and Dick Chaney were both eaten by sharks and while that will be little comfort when you watch the fascists murder your friends and neighbors it is, at least, more than nothing. "

Actually - this might be the only Saturday I can't join in as an old co-worker is visiting from Spain. If I am too hammered I'll avoid jumping in.
-
Saturday seems to be the best idea - let me know what time you guys would be free and I can make it work.
-
Also - for your play style (Miffy) you might be better off looking into the Scout. They get bonuses to their health and power pick-ups (eventually) and boosts to shotgun damage. To check that out go to the Horde option in the main menu and then look at Class Skills.

Yeah, that was great fun! We also got really unlucky for Wave 20 to be that guy. For info it is the worst boss to get due to its speed and close range attacks. With all of the others there is some mitigation but I honestly thing that the developers need to nerf it a little. There is a similar one called the Carrier but it is slow and you can kite it away from your defences. I have a regular group on Sunday nights that I play The Division and Titanfall with but I am around for the rest of the week and next weekend (midnight to 1AM Thai time is good for me just let me know and I won't get too drunk before hand).
-
Right, talking to Gwardinen, we are aiming to play in around 5 and half hours. I think Miffy is in Calgary - that might make it tough if he isn't up yet. I do have another Idle Thumbs friend who might be interested so if anyone is online. Come and join!

Okay, well I am in Thailand so, depending on where you live, there is likely a time difference. Knowing what timezone you are in means I can organise my day (I am a house-husband, so I can make time most of the time). I am an engineer at lvl 5, depending on what cards you have I recommend Soldier or Scout as a starting class. Unless you are wicked good as a sniper. Have added Tydeus to the Club.
-
I am on Xbox One and gagging for some Horde mode. I created an Idle Thumbs club in which you can advertise a 'Looking For Game' in ahead of time. That would also appear as an advert in other Club members party section. If you were interested in Horde, what day would you be looking at, and what time/time zone?

I love Scream Queens a lot. https://fridayfilmage.wordpress.com/2016/11/06/tv-slashers-and-scream-queens-guest-post/ The more I look back at this review, I really want to fix the pacing of it but it is out and I really hope that it convinces a few people to watch Scream Queens, because it is really good.
