Obligatory Comical YouTube Thread II: The Fall of YouTube
Nachimir replied to pabosher's topic in Idle Banter
Apparently not a hoax, but someone desperately trying to invent the next Zumba, i.e. named, trademarked workout thing that builds lucrative worldwide licensing empire. -
I just crossed Call of Pripyat off my list after neglecting it for about a year. It turned out I was only about three missions from the end, and I found them disappointing. One reason for that was because my past self exploited everything possible until I had so much in the way of cash, railgun ammo, and medical supplies those final missions were kind of easy ¬¬ From a technical standpoint it was certainly better than Shadow of Chernobyl, and some systems are better designed, but the fuck does CoP come anywhere near the sense of alienation and danger SoC evoked.

No worries, it's just driving me a little bit nuts, especially given that this seems to be the only site it happens on. I've verified it's nothing to do with other browser extensions. Edit: aha https://twitter.com/verticalforest/status/491229616133005312

Sorry to hear your day was shitty S.A.M., I hope whatever it is gets resolved quickly. Intense! I've dealt with a couple of people getting this clingy and creepy, just remember that once you've been straightforward and broken it off, you probably owe them none of the things they might ask for, i.e. the emotional labour of dealing with their feelings, assumptions they made, etc. There is nothing more valuable to give than the fact that you're not romantically interested in them, and the less guff it's dressed up with, the fewer things there are for their brains to seize on as bargaining chips.

I'm having a weird forum issue with the HTML5 video player for Safari (this). It's fine with pages that have multiple videos (example), but on Idle Thumbs forum pages specifically, it can only display the first video on the page. All the others show as blank areas. Unfortunately, the HTML5 video extension doesn't let you enable/disable by site. The flash based player is poopy and tends to make Mavericks hang nowadays, so I don't want to switch back to it for Thumbs.

I'm not sure which series, but I lost interest in Being Human when it became about

I can raise that MTB video (Though if you want to see more like the Hector Uribe one, look for Red Bull Rampage videos). No head movement, but GoPro's 3D system makes taking video suitable for Oculus relatively easy. It just needs some masking to separate the two images. I might have posted it in this thread before, but PCM3D have some excellent drone videos to go with it.

Thanks Roderick. I was pleased with the name too, and apparently the event was good enough we've pushed the colostomy bag manufacturer of the same name further down the google ranks. This years was exhausting, not to mention preceded by food poisoning and followed by another straight week of event work. I think ticket sales suffered a little from the name change, but it laid a lot of groundwork for future stuff.

I heard this didn't air because the long ethics committee plotline tested badly with focus groups. -
Somebody Please Explain This Scene From Transformers 4 To Me
Nachimir replied to tegan's topic in Movies & Television
Yes. During the first one, the guy next to me at the cinema leant over after the first apocalyptic fight at the air force base and whispered "That was awesome". And with just one transformer, it worked, in a similar way to Cloverfield. With more in the scene, they just become shadowy, fast moving, indistinct forms covered in greebles, rarely if ever having distinct silhouettes. All the action gets super confusing and I felt really fatigued by the end. Haven't bothered with any of them since. -
The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

Pretty Lights tend to put stuff out for free. -
I thought I'd got through an entire Steam sale without buying anything, but: Nidhogg

Sure, I agree, with you and Irishjohn. As I said, I wasn't trying to justify their decisions, but they're in a shitty tangle whatever they choose. It's kind of like watching a dog chase it's own tail, except a bunch of people get marginalized or victimised by bullshit.

This. It's going to take new spaces, events and communities to create healthier, more widespread games culture. Fighting internet assholes burns too much out (people, goodwill, trust) and they seem to be in infinite supply. I think opposition to assholes is strongest coming from leadership if at all possible: That's encouraging. I was outraged by the e-sports thing too, though not surprised as e-sports seem like a particular haven for scummy behaviour (which even I've been on the end of occasionally). The bigger of the two federations in question have clarified that they're trying to get e-sports accepted by non-games sporting bodies, and it sounds like women are a minority at their events. If you look at the list of games, the ones they're holding womens tournaments for are 1v1. Also, mixed gender competitions don't always go well in communities that harbour sexist, racist assholes. I'm not trying to excuse their behaviour, because it is a truly shit situation that makes zero sense, but between their communities behaviour and the sporting federations they're trying to court, they really are likely to eat a massive shit sandwich whatever choice they make. The Finnish eSports Federation are following a line set down by the IeSF, who in turn are following a line set by an organisation higher up than them, who give themselves a much bigger remit than video games. As they point out in the updates to the PC Gamer piece, competition Chess has a similar gender divide. It's totally shitty, but it's a much bigger problem than one eSports organisation having a shitty policy. I hope there's a quicker solution and lobbying works, but what solves it might just be waiting for a bunch of old white dudes to die. Even when they're well meaning, a lot of sports are regressive when it comes to gender. For instance, many cycling events are trying to encourage more women to take part… by segregating gender and making the womens' events shorter What they should do is make their events non-gendered and add a shorter tier for everyone who might be intimidated by longer distance races and sportives, regardless of gender. I live with a badass landlady who can tackle 250K road rides, sometimes massively showing up men who patronise her on the start line.

It got a thumbs down on Youtube. Mission accomplished.

If Areal is genuine, then my heart absolutely bleeds for them, and most of those developers should be getting very fucking far away from whoever is handling the campaign for them. Questions they're still dodging, from updates to that Forbes article:

Every Steam sale, I think "Oh I should look into this thing with points and cards and crafting or whatever", then glaze over within a few lines and think "Fuck this shit".

Frog Fractions 2: A Fractional Kickstarter Campaign
Nachimir replied to Tanukitsune's topic in Video Gaming
I have a gitchy feeling that Arkham Knight will be Frog Fractions 2.
