  1. The McElroy Family of Products

Well, it finally happened. After being a MBMBAM listener since literally episode 1, I unsubscribed today. For the last several years the actual comedy/shilling ratio has been on a troubling slope and I finally got sick of it. I'm really upset about it, because when they're actually doing stuff I still find it hilarious. Realizing that, if I listen to MBMBAM on my half hour commute, I'm as likely as not to spend half of my drive listening to them promoting either something else that they're doing or something else on MaxFun was what finally put me over the edge though. The whole MaxFun network is starting to feel to me like they're more interested in getting you to listen to their other shows than actually making the one that you're listening to at that moment worthwhile. Bummer.
  2. Riverdale

In Canada at least (don't know about you yanks), they're releasing the newest episode on Netflix every Saturday. That's where my lady is watching. I have promised to catch up at my earliest convenience using this service.
  3. I Had A Random Thought...

Hey everyone, Zeus' random thought wasn't about poo this time! It was... oh.
  4. So YOU'RE the one who keeps buying them URLs...
  5. Riverdale

My girlfriend is watching it and describes it thus: "It's a garbage show for garbage people. It's fucking terrible. It's a very, very, VERY bad show. I love it."
  6. Fire Emblem Heroes (iOS/Android)

I have played a bunch of this game so far. It made me dig up my old copy of Awakening and restart it, so there's that.
  7. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

They actually changed the timings around a bit when they ported Bayonetta 1 to the Wii U. Having beaten it on 360 and then played the Wii U version a bit after finishing 2, I can say that, anecdotally, it felt like the Wii U port was much harder than the original 360 version. So, y'know, feel ok about that.
  8. The Big FPS Playthrough MISSION COMPLETE

I love the idea that this thread now overlaps with the existence of the forums. I look forward to seeing what 16 year old me thought of these things while you're playing them today!
  9. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

I just did this last month. To quote myself: I also finished Captain Toad between then and now. It was a really fun, charming game that had a lot of surprises in it. I think of those three that you bought it is actually my favourite at the end of the day. DKCTR is good, but too frustrating at the end. NSMBWU is also good, but I feel like the only reason that I stuck with it through the end was that when I played it it was new and there was nothing else really out yet. It's fine, but definitely one of the more rote Mario games. On the other hand, I played all 4 of the NSMB games (and would rank it third out of them. NSMB2 was kinda bad), so if you have only played one then the formula may not be worn out for you.
  10. Modest Tech: The NX Generation (Nintendo Switch)

I wonder if this may be miscommunication in a way. I can see it being a case where you can download it during the month and as long as you don't delete it, it's yours. After that month, if you delete it, you need to pay to get access to it again. Totally pulling this out of my ass, but it's a way that I can see both reports being true. To be fair, the XBLA release of Perfect Dark way back in 2009 (2010?) had online multiplayer. It's both backwards compatible with the XBone and is in the Rare Replay collection, so it's really not hard to play PD online right this second if you're that hard up for it. I could walk into the next room and start up a multiplayer lobby, should the mood strike me.
  11. Modest Tech: The NX Generation (Nintendo Switch)

This. Put in my pre-order ASAP but as I was only able to check on my lunch break at work all the coloured ones were sold out already. Grey sold out about an hour later, and I have a coworker who is pretty bummed she missed the boat on that. Also this. It's actually (combined with battery life) my main concern with the thing. Even my New3DSXL can fit in my pocket if I move my keys to the other one, but between 2.5 hour at the low-end battery and how big it is, this seems like a portable that's meant to only be ported around your house. Still, I'll have fun playing with it in bed or on the TV, but I worry that this is the end of me taking Nintendo systems on the road with me.
  12. Modest Tech: The NX Generation (Nintendo Switch)

I already imported a copy of Puyo Puyo Tetris for Xbone, but what the hell, I want to support localizing that nonsense!
  13. Titanfall 2 was the first multiplayer game I've ever enjoyed playing pub matches in. It got me to try Overwatch, which is now the second. The campaign was super fun and I wanted more of it badly enough that I clicked on "Multiplayer" on the main menu, which I would never have thought of doing with most games. I will give it loads of credit for that.
  14. Recently completed video games

Yeah, I got 100% in that game. That was a mistake.
  15. The Big VR Thread

I have Infinite, but no PSVR. One day.
  16. Oh man, how about this loot box? I am pretty happy that it was in my last unlocks of the Winter promotion (got two tonight, one for winning three matches in Arcade, one for hitting level 7). I really wanted that Jingle skin, and the Riverboat McCree is one of my favourite default ones.
  17. North America, being Canadian.
  18. So I just picked this up while it was on sale and have played a few vs AI matches and one real one. I really like the feel of this. Miffy495 #1859 on B.net for those interested. I have a friend who is super into HOTS and have been playing that with her. Unlocking stuff for Overwatch while doing so was what pushed me over the edge. Pretty new to online gaming in general. HOTS, Titanfall 2, and now this are it for me. Looking to get more into this kind of thing though, and excited by the possibilities!

So with the Switch due out in a few months, I've been trying to use my winter break to go back and finish all of the WiiU games that I started but did not finish over its lifespan. This week, I beat: Kirby and the Rainbow Curse - Pretty fun! I feel like the reception it got was way harsher than it deserved. Some of the levels had pretty cool gimmicks and aside from a series of frustrating boss fights I really enjoyed it as a mellow way to pass my time. Yoshi's Wooly World - This may be one of the secret best WiiU games. So good, except that their checkpointing leaves a lot to be desired. I only wish that they didn't save all of their best stuff for the last 8 levels. A level of velcro conveyor belts that has a name that is a reference to "Touch Fuzzy; Get Dizzy"? Hell yes. Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze - Fun, but Jesus Christ does it get tough. I think that Retro took all of those accolades it got for the Donkey Kong Country Returns (which I did love) and ran a little too hard with them. I'm no platforming scrub, but I'm not even going to attempt the secret world here. Finishing the last (non-boss fight) level in the regular mode took me almost an hour and about 30 lives. I could probably have done it faster if I'd given up on getting the KONG letters, but still. God damn. It felt like this game was designed with exactly one perfect run through each level in mind, and unlike other platformers, if you screw up a perfect run it doesn't just effect your score. In DKC:TF, it just fucking kills you instantly. Glad I played it, but also glad it's done. Splatoon - The single player levels, anyway. Last summer I left off with 5 of them unfinished. Today I went back and mopped them up. That was really fun, and the boss was rad! Totally worth playing through the single player if you have this game and haven't done so. Really fun and inventive levels.
  20. GOTY.cx 2016

I actually just beat this last week as well. I'm trying to clear out my backlog of WiiU games before the switch comes out, and found this one to be really fun. I didn't expect that, especially given the really lukewarm reception it had when it came out. Turns out that, aside from a final boss that demands precision that the controls can't really deliver, it's super good!
  21. GOTY.cx 2016

The Witness is my goty this year. It completely ate my summer vacation. I was obsessed. Thought about it constantly when not playing. Made me fill up a journal with what looked like the rantings of a madman. Really good. Titanfall 2 had a killer campaign mode and actually got me interested in online multiplayer for the first time in my life. DOOM had one of the most fun shooter campaigns I've ever played. Firewatch got me super invested in everything that it did and I loved it to death. Recore SHOULD have been my goty but was too broken in too many ways. Still worth experiencing for what it is, but god do I wish it had lived up to its potential. BONUS 6th GAME! Picross 3D Round 2. 'Nuff said. The "I haven't put enough time in but could possibly be on this list retroactively" list: Mafia III Rimworld The Last Guardian The "Huh. I thought this would be on the list" list: Uncharted 4 Mario and Luigi: Paper Jam Forza Horizon 3 (It's still real good though)
  22. TITANFLAPS 2

So I finished the campaign and was jonesing for more. I'm digging into the multiplayer for the first time in any game ever. I have never played a COD online. I have never played an online game that hasn't been a Thumbs community event, to be honest. I... I think I really like Amped Hardpoint. This is a fun game. I just hit level 10. I don't know what it is that makes Titanfall different, but I love the whole feel of it. I'm also terrible, especially since I waited until the game was on sale so I'm trying to learn how to play by having my ass kicked repeatedly by people who have already prestiged twice. I think that's what put me off of Attrition mode. I just get blown up a million times and am lucky to get a kill each match. In Hardpoint, I feel like I'm making a difference to the game. Last round, I snuck up and did an execution on a defender, took and amped a point, then called my titan in en route to another point before killing one titan there and going nuclear on another, taking it out with my MGL as I fell back to earth. Feels great and I love doing it. I'll stop bumping this thread over and over after this, but I wanted to at least throw out there that for someone who is actually the full definition of a n00b, this may be my entry into online gaming and I'm having a great time.

Also agree 100%. The tragedy is that it could have been undisputed #1.
  24. Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

I put a lot of thoughts on ReCore in the finished thread when I beat it. Man, I love/hate that game so much. It may have been my goty if it weren't completely broken.
