  1. I Had A Random Thought...

Thanks, Teg. I'll now never sleep again.

I thought the difficulty in Guacamelee was really well balanced except for the boss fight. That guy was just pure bullshit. The rest of the game was really tight and fun though, just enough challenge.
  3. Life

So my green hair is apparently causing friction at my summer job. I kept working at Starbucks so that I wouldn't be bored as fuck all summer waiting for the school year to start again, but also wanted to dye my hair for the two months off teaching. I ran the idea by my store manager a month in advance, talked it through with him (I'm not an idiot, I realized there would be dress code conflicts) and he ordered me a starbucks hat so that I could wear it while I'm working and still fit with dress code. The day after I dyed my hair, HIS boss walks in and is now breathing down everyone's neck because the hat is apparently not good enough. She's been after him about one thing or another for a while, so he's already always having to watch out for her, and this is starting to become a thing. If it were just me against his boss, there'd be no problem. I'll be teaching again in 7 weeks anyway, so the worst case scenario for me would be that she'd fire me, I'd tighten my belt for a few weeks (still have a bunch of cash saved up for the summer, so I'd be fine), and she'd look like a massive jerk who overreacted over nothing and cost the store a very well-liked and competent employee (I have a fairly large number of regulars who come in pretty much just to talk with me). Speaking purely selfishly, she has absolutely nothing to threaten me with. Unfortunately, I'm really uncomfortable with the idea that some of the shit from this may end up splattering on my boss, who is a genuinely incredible guy and doesn't deserve any of the fallout. As she is actively looking for ways to get him in hot water (including recently setting our store's goal to triple of what it was last year. Last year being a record-setting anomaly because we happened to be located next to where everyone in the city came to gawk at the aftermath of the river flooding downtown), this is likely to happen. I'm not sure about how to play this one. If it were just me, no problem. This lady can go fuck herself. But someone else could get hurt by this and the whole thing kinda sucks.

EDF Vita for 10! I hope this sale exists in North America so I can capitalize. Fucking love EDF.

Is El Shaddai a Suda game? Huh. I have spent some time with my Vita the past two weeks, partially because Tearaway was cheap for PS+ and I needed to free up some space on my memory card. I beat Gravity Rush and Uncharted: Golden Abyss. Gravity Rush was a really entertaining little game. The combat was super simple. I feel like there was a lot more to it, but I beat the game without ever having to get into it. I find that really deep combat systems only matter if the game actually has a point where you need to step up and use them, and GR never hit that. Still, fun. Uncharted was pretty good too. I am a huge fan of the series (including the first one, which combined with LittleBigPlanet to convince me to buy a PS3), so make of that what you will. I really enjoyed it right up until the final 3 chapters. What the hell is it with the Uncharted series being completely unable to make a good ending for any of their games? On top of the design issues, the scripting broke on me 4 times during this sequence, which had not happened once up to that point in the game. Blugh. Also, to every single fucking developer making a game for a platform that has a motion sensor in it: If you can already see that I'm using the stick to aim, don't add in motion aiming. I've seen that shit way too many times with 3DS games, and having it pop up on the Vita too is infuriating. Your platform has a right stick. I am aiming with it. If I shift in my chair while doing this, please don't fuck up my headshot because you think I want to aim a foot to the right of where I put the stick. Really, I enjoyed Uncharted a lot. If you have a Vita, it's worth a shot. But goddamn does the end of the game leave a bad taste in your mouth. Chapters 1 - 28, good. Chapters 29 - 33, not good.

Yeah, Bioshock 2 is really quite good. I don't know if I'd call it the best Bioshock, but I do think I like it more than Infinite. Unfortunately, the best part of the game comes at the very end and not a lot of people got to see it.
  7. Post your face!

I just decided that since I'm not back in the classroom until September, I don't have to look like an adult until then. Naturally this resulted in hair dye. My new summer look:
  8. Space Chem

So I got this in the latest Humble Bundle, and damn is it addictive. I almost bought it last Steam sale, but was turned off by already feeling overwhelmed after playing only the demo. Since I got it as a bonus though, and also since my laptop is about to die for reals and that is the only game that I can run stably on it, I fired it up for a bit yesterday. I quickly found myself completely engrossed, and when I worked out how to string together a huge track to build an acetylene molecule or when I had to create carbon monoxide in one plant and then ship it to another to turn it into formaldehyde I was struck by this overwhelming feeling of accomplishment. Seriously, I'm barely an eighth into this game and it's already making me feel like the smartest person in the world. I'm currently grappling with the problem of how to stick three hydrogen onto a molecule when I can only get the tracks to cross the drop point for it twice. In typing that though, I just gave myself an idea. Time to hop back into the game, I suppose. This shit is crazy. Anyone else been playing it? EDIT: My plan worked! Problem solved! Now I'm stuck on the one right after that...
  9. Feminism

Try being a male elementary school teacher. It's such a feminized profession that they are actually public about the quotas that they have to hire men (30%, if you're wondering). Most men in teaching end up in high schools, and then specifically in math and the sciences. Working in the grade 1 - 3 set, I constantly have "I probably got this job over better teachers because I'm a dude" hanging over my head, and this is reinforced by the amount of parents I have who love to make small talk by starting with "It's so nice for these kids to see a man in this position." Gendering careers is the stupidest thing.
  10. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

I played a bunch of All Stars Transformed on the Vita. Just didn't click. Earning upgrades for your cars is not what I want out of a pick up and play racer, the controls feel entirely too loose, and the weapons were just kind of toothless and lame. Not my thing. Diddy Kong Racing, however. I would play the shit out of a new one of those.
  11. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

Does anyone have opinions on Wii Party U? I have yet to decide on which game is going to be my freebie, and that's the only one I don't own a disc version of (of the 4 games available to North American Mario Kart owners). I went to redeem it, and it said something about not coming with a stand or some such nonsense? Realizing that not only is the game only kinda something that I want to download, but I wouldn't even be getting the optimal version of it has made me consider just claiming a digital version of something else so that I wouldn't have to dig up the disc in the future. Thoughts?
  12. New people: Read this, say hi.

We actually tried something like that around here for a bit. First with Killer 7, which everyone fell off pretty quickly (myself included, unfortunately. Came up at a really busy time in my studies), and later, a bit more successfully with Shadow of the Colossus. I say "a bit more successfully" because a couple of us actually finished the game. I wouldn't mind trying again. I like the idea of a "game of the month" club that you just need to play a bit and discuss. I'd be interested in seeing what you guys play and maybe trying the home version myself.
  13. Grand Thumb Auto retro PC edition

Gonna try this week for a bit anyway. On my laptop at my girlfriend's house, and the connection has been pretty shitty, but we'll see what happens.
  14. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

Yeah, within like 5 seconds of starting the game, it offered me the chance to switch characters. Also, I like Rayman anyway.
  15. PlayStation+

Oh man, that is some great PS4 pickings. I may need more DS4s for Towerfall now that I'll have it. My friend has the PC version and it gets a LOT of play when I roll over there.
  16. Grand Thumb Auto retro PC edition

So my girlfriend's cat died tonight. She is currently on vacation on the other side of the country. Monday will be her first day home alone without the cat. I may have to be there with her, and thus not GTAing. Currently unknown. We'll see.

Yeah, but pretty much every outlet said that if you have a WiiU, that's the version to play. After going through the first couple of levels with the touchpad support, it's rad as hell. I'm sure it's fine with a regular controller (Origins was great), but I wouldn't want to play it that way after seeing the fun they had implementing the tablet. When it's a case of $20 vs $10, I'll go for the WiiU version.
  18. General Video Game Deals Thread

Ubisoft is having an eShop sale right now on WiiU. This means that Rayman Legends is currently $20. I bought it. Am downloading now.
  19. Man, rare Weezer concert footage there.
  20. Elite: Dangerous (Kickstarter)

    It's only a dollar.
  21. Nintendo 3DS

Yeah, I put a stupid amount of hours into that game and still never finished it. Always meant to go back. Perhaps that's a thing I'll do this summer.
  22. I got this game for Christmas the year it came out on PC. I was polite, but very much thinking "what the hell is this hot garbage?". I installed it because I was still being polite, and then had my mind completely blown. That game is so damn good.
  23. Life

Jesus Christ, Gormongous. Thoughts with you, etc. Don't feel bad about feeling fucked up by all this. You lost a friend, it is acceptable to not be your best right now.
  24. Post your face!

...I feel like it's in here somewhere. FOUND IT! EDIT: Man, I've been new-paging all OVER the place lately.
