  1. What Jake will look like when he's 40

The only thing I've seen from him recently is the voiceover work on that horrible "Sushi TV." I feel so bad for him sometimes. Then I forget about him until the next time I catch some of Sushi TV before the Daily Show starts. Poor bastard.
  2. Im steping out.

Damn, that wasn't it. Once I get my warantee-happy DS up and runnin', I'll be happy to post my info, but as the codes are linked to the machines, my current code would be plenty useless for now. Thanks for the attempt anyway though.
  3. Just how awesome is the DS Lite?

OK, I'm pretty sure I'm getting one. Appartenly if you're in Europe you'll need a step-down converter, but I am in Canada. Does anyone know what kind of adapters I'll need to get? (if any) I have no idea about voltages (although liksang says 110, so I think I can trust that) or plug types in Japan. Thanks. EDIT: Bah screw it. I added one of those USB chargers to my order. Damn. That was like a whole paycheque gone in an instant. Thank god for scholarship money that I can fall back on for food. Besides, who needs food when I've got an enamel blue DS lite on its way to my house?
  4. I Want to Play Condemned, but I Can't

Back when I was playing Doom III and living at home, I was sitting in my room with the surround sound going really well. Lights were out, it was around 3 in the morning, great atmosphere to play the game in. I was wandering around the corridors when a woman's voice says "over here..." and footsteps start appearing in blood leading to this door. I walk up to the door and just as the door opens, the door to my bedroom bursts open and my younger sister yells "HEY PETER!!!!" ...I almost shat myself. Turns out she just wanted to borrow a CD of mine, but it scared the living hell out of me. Also, as HL2 has already been mentioned, I really had to force myself to keep playing anytime I heard that creepy rattle from a black headcrab.
  5. Im steping out.

Yeah, that would be me. I never really noticed whether or not I was getting a health warning at the start. I'll have to check that out. Thanks, and welcome aboard.
  6. Any good games for the PsP?

LuminesLuminesLuminesLuminesLumines. Seriously. It's the reason I bought the fucking system. Also, GTA was entertaining, if short lived. Katamari is OK, but takes some getting used to. I had Burnout Legends, but once I'd gotten gold on everything (took about a week and a half) there was nothing left for me. I sold that one. Actually, the game that I've gotten the most enjoyment out of (besides dear, sweet Lumines) has been Metal Gear Ac!d. I'm kind of a strategy geek, and love MG as well, so I thought that game was great. Planning on buying the sequel sometime over the next couple of months. I'd say to get Ac!d, get Lumines, get whatever else really grabs you that you've heard good things about, and then wait patiently for Loco Roco.
  7. Just how awesome is the DS Lite?

Right. Fucking. On. Today's payday too. Once I see my cheque, I may just purchase. *giddy with excitement*
  8. Dreamfall gone gold

Dude, it's April 2006, that was 3 years ago next month.
  9. Bone Part Dos

I haven't really felt the need to buy the colourized editions as I have a massive volume with all of the old black and white ones in it, but I've glanced through the first couple of volumes in the local comic shop and it really isn't that much of a change. The story is great, regardless of colour artwork, so enjoy.
  10. Anyone Remember Desperados?

I played the demo, but never got around to trying the full game. I really liked what I played, but unfortunately at the time I was in the 8th or 9th grade and had no funds with which to purchase the game. This may be another thing I'll need to add to my list of stuff to eBay...
  11. 'Gibbage' from Size Five Games

Got the demo running, but the controls irritate me a little. I'll need to work out a nice litte scheme that works on my joypad and then see how I like it. The default controls... leave something to be desired. Don't know about the gameplay yet, but the awesome of the design earns the game some points.
  12. For consoles, you're damn right. I'll play with Dual Analogue if I have no other choice, but damn is it imprecise. I look forward to the day when console FPSs no longer require an "auto-aim" function. When the game has to help you that much, your controls just ain't working. Also, point taken. I hadn't considered the possibility of not pointing at what you're shooting, but moving the pointer much like a mouse. That would make some sense.
  13. Just how awesome is the DS Lite?

How'd you manage to get ahold of one? I thought there was a severe run on them. I'd kind of given up hope for the next year or so.
  14. French-speaking Idle Forumers!

Damn, I guess now we've got no choice but to give up this cruel charade.
  15. Dreamfall gone gold

Yeah, after that screenshot was taken, she totally KICKED THAT FUCKING VINE IN THE THROAT!!! Honestly though: can't wait.
  16. My thing with pointing it away from the screen, which people seem to be attacking quite a bit, is that (if indeed the controller is used to turn, which it may not be) in order to turn, you would need to point the controller (think: crosshairs) at something which you cannot see, thus rendering you incapable of aiming at anything on your screen until you stopped moving. With the mouse, it's different, as when you move the mouse the character's perspective shifts but your crosshairs stay exaclty in the center of the screen. When the crosshairs are not actually ON the screen at all, this is no longer possible. SpiderMonkey's plan seems like it would work pretty well, provided that the user could customize their own deadzone. As for Baconian's comment, you seem to think that I'm frightened of this game. Rest assured, I am not. I am merely trying to imagine what playing this game would be like and vocalizing (type-alizing? postalizing?) my concerns. I'm not forming any opinions until this thing ships, I'm just saying I can't think of how it would work. Whether or not the designers can think of it is beyond me. They've got creative jobs, I'm sure they'll come up with something. Or not. Whatever.
  17. BS4....Hmmm

In North America, we call it "advancement." This is one reason why I hate North American terminology.
  18. French-speaking Idle Forumers!

    Merde. Maintenant, c'est trop tard.
  19. BS4....Hmmm

Good guidelines for what makes an adventure, Marek, but they may be a bit too broad in scope. There are some games that are not about points and in which you could die in which I was never afraid of dying. These games would not normally be considered adventure. Contrast that to the frequency of death in, say, Sierra's old games and these games may actually fit the definition better. Example: I died far more often playing the King's Quest games than playing the Metal Gear Solid games, but KQ is adventure and MGS is not. Your first and third points explain why I love the MGS games, and the second fits just fine with the amount of difficulty I've had with them. Now that I think about it, maybe Metal Gear really is an adventure series and I just never noticed before. I need to think this one through. 'Bout the whole control method thing though, I'm totally on board. Adventures are about the story more than anything else, and what the hell does the input method have to do with that? I didn't play BS3 because I heard a whole lot of bad about it, not because it was direct-controlled.
  20. What Jake will look like when he's 40

Can't be. He looks nothing like any gym teacher I've ever had...
  21. Oh yeah, they damn well are non-traditional. That's all part of the fun though. It's so different that it adds to the experience. It may just be me, but traditional gaming seems to have gotten pretty stale.
  22. Pick up Trauma Center or Kirby's Canvas Curse. You'll be converted eventually. And if you don't mind playing a game that isn't a game, Electroplankton can be awesome as well. I too completely ignored touch screen functionality for the games that you mentioned. Mario Kart as well. In those cases, it does seem completely superfluous and useless. There are games that demand it though, so give 'em a shot and see what you think. You could surprise yourself. On the other hand, I'm also somewhat skeptical about the revo being used for FPSs. If pulled off well, it could be sweet, but I can't really wrap my mind around turning/strafing. If you use the nunchaku for move/turn, then how do you strafe? If you use the nunchaku for move/strafe, how do you turn? Turning the remote would force you to aim away from the screen, so I don't see how that would work. (please note, I HATE using the stick for move/turn. It's all about move/strafe for me, which means that if you strafe by moving the remote from side to side, it would really piss me off.) The whole thing baffles me...
  23. Headsmiley poll, round one!

I've never heard of him. What exactly does he do?
  24. Magazines

I got a gift subscription to MacLean's (Canadian Newsweek-ish but not really) a while back, but probably won't renew it. There's a few interesting articles now and then, but on the whole it's way too tabloid-y. Other than that, I don't read a whole lot of magazines. As apparently a few people around here do, I'll occasionally pick up an issue of Wired or maybe PC Gamer, but nothing ever really impresses me enough to subscribe.
  25. The Horrors of Guitar Hero

Ack. A month or so back my mom and her boyfriend decided to come see how I was living, so they visited my place. The boyfriend, knowing video games, noticed my Guitar Hero controller immediately and spent the rest of the night in tone-deaf bliss. Tonight they were having something of a party. The 45 year old kind of party. "Guess which wine this is" and such. Still, the boyfriend remembered Guitar Hero and called me up to ask if I'd bring it over for the night, have some free booze, show the friends what an upstanding young student I am and then leave whenever. As he's a damn good cook and I miss real food, I happily obliged. Bad, bad idea. I just saw my mother and about 7 of her friends drunk off their asses passing the guitar back and forth for several hours. They're all professors at the University, so imagine your local faculty of economics getting ripped and rocking out on the playstation all night. Friggin weird. I volunteered to take the dog out for an hour (it's pissing rain tonight too) just so I could escape for a while. Don't let this happen to you. Hide your music peripherals if your folks come to visit. I gotta work real hard now to try and block this out so I don't lose a whole bunch of respect for my mom. Wish me luck!
