  1. Just how awesome is the DS Lite?

Haven't had a problem. Actually it feels a lot more solid than my old DS. I used to be able to slide the top screen back and forth a bit during long waits between gameplay. None of that anymore. Battery is fine, although there seem to be little plastic burs or something where the screws go in that are a bit scratchy if you're not expecting them. And yes. Japanese tech support is full of ninjas. Ninjas with PHONES.
  2. Oblivion

So basically I'm being told to hold off on Oblivion and get a used copy of Jade Empire instead? Sounds like a plan. About $40 easier on the wallet too.
  3. Gamelife Episode 3: somehow it still lives

Goddamn, I could not be more in agreement. The children need to be cleansed. WITH AN AXE.
  4. Marc Ecko's Getting Up

So Warriors-style. I never got a chance to play JGR, but Jet Set Radio Future simply had you pulling on a shoulder button as you got near something to tag. I believe that from what I heard, JGR has a more similar style to Warriors/Getting Up, but is still quite simplified.
  5. Oblivion

With the end of exams in sight (Thursday!!! Woooo!) I'm looking for a way to kill off the summer months while awaiting second-year-of-university-panic. I've only ever been able to get into a couple of RPGs though. KOTOR (both) sucked me in really well as did Fallout and NWN, but I never really got why people were so into stuff like Baldur's Gate. I've also never played an RPG in the first person, which I understand is the case with Oblivion. You think this'll be worth my money or not? And I fully understand that asking on a thread devoted to the game may not bring me the most unbiased opinions, but I didn't really feel like starting another thread, so there you have it.
  6. Real Life Doom

Remind me never to browse your DVD collection...
  7. 'Gibbage' from Size Five Games

Yeah. Back towards the tail end of elementary school (grade 7-ish I think) my friends and I would take Liero in to the school library on a 3.5-inch disk and install it on their computers. Pretty much all of my science classes (held in the library because the school was short on rooms...) were wasted playing against my buddies in that game. By the end of it, there wasn't dirt anymore, just blood. Of course, it isn't as good as Gibbage, primarily for the reason that there was no single player component. Still, fond memories. Of course, Gibbage (from what I've seen) doesn't have a grappling hook that allows you to hang from the ceiling and drop exploding bananas on your enemy, so make of that what you will. Of the two, I declare Gibbage the winner, although I'm still fighting to find a control scheme that feels natural.
  8. Real Life Doom

You forgot the glowing red stuff that tells you something is about to try to rip your face off.
  9. Futurama

It was kind of funny when my sister was going through my DVDs. She got to Jurassic Bark and wouldn't watch it because she remembered seeing it once and it made her cry. Damn good episode, but not really what you want when you're watching Futurama. That's its main downfall. As good as it is, you're not watching Futurama to have your heartstrings pulled at. You're watching it to laugh.
  10. Real Life Doom

And actually, being full of shit would make it a bit MORE comparable to Doom III.
  11. Just how awesome is the DS Lite?

It's here! YAY!!!!!! I've been messing around with stuff, making sure that it plays multiplay with systems from other regions (me on my DS lite and my roommate on my old DS playing Mario Kart) and other such things. I have to say that after playing Advance Wars on the Lite and then on the SP, the SP looks like it's in black and white. Sooooooo much nicer. Only a couple of concerns so far: 1. If, like me, you have large thumbs, be warned that the buttons are now closer together. This has resulted in me accidentally applying the break while trying to drive and drag a shell behind me in Mario Kart. They're just a little bit too close for my liking at the moment, but I'll adapt. 2. The buttons have a bit more give to them. While this means that it actually feels more comfortable to use, you don't get as definite a click anymore to confirm that you have indeed pressed a button. A little disorienting. 3. THEY TOOK AWAY THE GODDAMNED THUMB COVER ON THE WRISTBAND!!! Why why why why WHY would they do that? I was looking forward to playing Hunters using the touch screen to aim, but without the nub I need to use the stylus or just the buttons and I find both prospects fairly distasteful. Shame on you ninty. Now I need to try and find a way to buy a separate wristband that has a thumb nub on it. Overall, happy. Except for the lack of nub. Still, I haven't bought Hunters yet, so maybe I'll give it a shot without and see how it works. There you have it!
  12. Highway 17

He's seen through the crap to the true nature of the article. All hail!
  13. Prince Of Persia

The problem for me is that no matter how bad WW was, if I'm going to play TT I need to play it first. I have this compulsion for some reason. If I'm playing a continuation of a story, I can't let myself just come into it totally cold. Things like Zone of the Enders for example. I heard that the second one was amazing and the first one was merely ok with a really frustrating camera. I bought and played the first one mostly so that I could play the second one without being confused. I knew it wasn't as good a game, but I still beat it. Actually, I've developed quite a fondness for the whole ZOE series, so I really did enjoy the first one. Maybe that was a bad example but you get the idea. Similar thing with Kingdom Hearts. First one I've heard some good about, sequel I've heard is incredible and really want to play. I'm working my way through the original right now pretty much solely for the pleasure of its sequel. That in mind, lemme rephrase the question: Is TT good enough to play through WW first?
  14. Bananas, proof that god exists

If that isn't a new smiley by the end of the week, I may have to kill something.
  15. Bananas, proof that god exists

I concur. I wish I'd thought of it first...
  16. British TV show. Not bad. Got something of a cult following as I understand, but being a canuck and all I'm a bit removed from all that.
  17. Your Animal Crossing Town

I haven't seen my animal crossing town in over a month. Saddened.
  18. Highway 17

His point isn't SO bad. Though I do disagree with him about HL2 specifically, his more general argument that the industry is starting to ignore smaller touches in favour of expansive and pretty graphics is relevant. I thought that HL2 did that far better than most, and he's holding it up as an example of a game that is particularly guilty of this omission. The specifics in his article kind of irk me, but I don't think his point is necessarily dead wrong.
  19. Bananas, proof that god exists

I love how they say that, as an atheist, I'm the opposite of an intellectual. Then later they say "Don't argue on an intellectual level." I feel like my brain has been raped by asshole zealots.
  20. Dreamfall gone gold

Fair enough. I really haven't been following the game at all and won't get to play it until at least after next Friday's paycheque (SOME money's got to go to food...) so I'm pretty clueless about the finer points.
  21. Dreamfall gone gold

If I'm not mistaken, you're not playing as April anymore, so why would Crow show up? Don't get me wrong, I love that little guy too, I just don't see what his purpose would be. Maybe I've just forgotten some essential part of his character or something. It's been almost 3 years since my last playthrough of TLJ.
  22. Guitar Hero shortages in Europe

Tu... tor... ee... al? Wha? I just jumped right in. I didn't even notice it was there. I figured if I started on easy it would be fine, and was. Glad to hear you're among us now though.
  23. Just how awesome is the DS Lite?

Mine as well! Although the company that shipped the package doesn't seem to believe in allowing the delivery guy to leave it at the post office if I'm not here to get it. They delivered it this morning, but as a result of that I won't be getting my hands on it until Monday. If only I'd been home at 11:40 instead of noon. Crapdammit.
  24. Prince Of Persia

S'ok, not many of us often do, but we post anyway. Forums are a bit narcisistic that way. Also, I'm fairly sure I spelled that incorrectly, so don't bother telling me. Anyway, welcome to the world of "people who post." It's nice here. They'll even let you eat FOOD now if you want to. So much better than the rats and other creepy-crawlies that lurkers have to try to consume from their position of eternal hiding.
  25. Prince Of Persia

Hmmm... unfortunate. For Badassery, I've got God of War or Ninja Gaiden, both of which are very well executed, to keep me happy. I guess I don't need to care about PoP then. And If I ever suddenly decide that I have to play them, I guess I can always eBay them several years down the line. Thanks.
