  1. Reverse Game Design

dammit, why do people still get stuck on Meat Circus? it wasn't that freaking hard. really, it wasn't. challenging, yes, but not hard.

that was the first thought that entered my head also.
  5. Final Fantasy for the PC

was there a recent international convention on spelling "console" wrong? seriously, i swear i've seen it wrong far more times than right in the past week. the worst, by far, is "counsel," which may be a Phoenix Wright joke, i don't know. to the point, Final Fantasy is a couch and TV experience, dammit. don't lie to yourself and say it's fine hunched over a desk, 7 inches from a screen.

  8. Crap... little help please? FF7 on ps2

that's so not true. name a single anime with heroic ecoterrorism in it. frankly, the enviromentalist stuff in the game is part of why i think it's great. i understand if none of you agree.

  10. Crap... little help please? FF7 on ps2

SHUT UP I HATE YOU GUYS i guess i should clarify that the story, not humor, is what keeps me captivated in an rpg. i just took issue with 'humor' being a big important thing. if you don't like the gameplay, fine. i loved the whole materia thing and every character in FF7, especially Cid and Barret. I actually found them quite amusing, actually, albeit not for real comedy reasons. Even if it was unintentional due to crap translation, I really liked piecing together what I could about cloud and seph's whole history. you can find words to stupify it through simplification, as i'm sure you will, but it really deserves better than that. like i said, it's not my favorite final fantasy. the story isn't even that compelling compared to the other games. i do, however, find it the most fun and entertaining for whatever reason. also FF7 is the only RPG i've ever played where the bonus quests didn't actually feel like a waste of time, Weapons aside. i like that.

yufster still annoys me i wish she wasn't mildly attractive addendum: i guess i should note i like girls that are as feminine as i am except that the girl is masculine but not enough to be gay which is why my girlfriend is so great

  13. Crap... little help please? FF7 on ps2

just fyi, if your PSone memory card gets full, you can copy its files onto the PS2's card. FF7 is fucking fantastic unlike some awfully critical, misguided fools would have you believe. it isn't "funny", as Japanese RPGs aren't unless the translators add fart jokes (which is say, Lunar) so enjoy what matters: the plot. I honestly don't see how anyone couldn't find the fall of cloud a compelling concept, but what do I know? i'm just a psych freak. the translation makes it a bit overpretentious, i guess. but if you're intelligent enough to look past that niggle, it's fantastic. but to be fair, it isn't my favorite final fantasy, even though it's the only one i've played through several times. ff6, 8 and 10 are all dead-locked for me.

  15. "What's wrong with game reviews"

credible, but keep in mind they also said that LSD is a "real [sic] drug" like cocaine. there wasn't much for insight that we haven't already discussed on these here forums, but it's still a decent article.

excuse me but i will not reply to your non- haiku talking box
  17. Did I waste 24 bucks?

like michelle branch you are not alone, in your thoughts of the plot it is a thinker but not a lame matrix kind haiku only now
  18. Did I waste 24 bucks?

i liked vamp. i thought his bisexuality made for an interesting plot point as well as a decent character. but that's just me. i can honestly say i felt like MGS2 was far more satisfying and fun, whereas Fallout just seemed like an okay way to kill a few hours. like an mmorpg. fallout and its sequel are, believe it or not, the only games I've started and never finished.
  19. Did I waste 24 bucks?

of course i played the first one. i love it. i cling to it. it was a better game. i did like Raiden as a change of pace, however. I will give that Fallout had a cool level-up system, but it didn't make me feel that attached to the character. wanting to get him a few more % in small weapons was a drive for a while but it doesn't hold interest for me the way, say, a real story will. we just differ in opinion about the open endedness. I am a story freak. Very few exceptions to that other than maybe Doom and fighting games to some extent. i say "to some extent" because fighting games where the character's backgrounds are well written and interwine with the rest tend to be well thought out overall. From Japan, anyway.
  20. Grand Theftendo

    um, Dick Tracy ripoff.
  21. Did I waste 24 bucks?

i was rather addicted to fallout in a mmorpg kind of way. when it really came down to it, however, i just couldn't bring myself to actually care about the game after a while and it just felt like a complete waste of time. also, the combat is needlessly unintuative and occasionally retareded re: lucky shot in the eye for 300, you die? I hate having to quicksave all the time just because shit like that happens. i really really wanted to like fallout. certainly, i loved the instruction manual! i also generally enjoy a post-apocolyptic setting. Regardless, I did not care about the story or the basic lack of good plot structure. it just didn't make me care enough to finish it. as well to respond to the person who thought I called them an idiot for hating raiden, you're being radically extreme with my sentence. Raiden's character seems like a pussy to Americans. I'll give that. To the Japanese, however, his archetype is very real and very popular. Many of their popular soaps and dramas have major characters in his vein. I play games through the eyes of the country that made it. Thus, I understood, emphasized with and liked Raiden. Certainly more than the Fallout Guy. Fallout Guy was an American.
  22. The Bard's Tale 6.7 at Gamespot

i think reviews need to have different stats based on who you are without having to go to a different review. for example, Midway Arcade Treasures 2 has gotten some pretty average reviews, but considering that 75% of the games in the package are ones I love, I absolutely adored it. I can't help but feel the weighing down of the score is going to lower sales, especially to "one-issue" (as in, of a magazine) buyers. what I'm proposing, stated inhuman terms, is something like this: a base rating based on the game's gameplay itself. No graphics or anything, just the game beneath it all. then add modifiers based on your personal preferences. if you're a graphics whore, -.5, if you don't care, then make no modification. If you like the bits of humor you've seen in the Bard's Tale so far, take comfort in adding 2 to the score. this may sound needlessly complicated, but in practice, i think it'd create far better game recommendations. personally, I've never been disappointed by a single game I've ever bought using my own personal version of using this system to read reviews. I will admit that Gameranking's averaging usually is a pretty good guide to go by, however.
  23. Did I waste 24 bucks?

you know, this is funny, because I feel exactly the same way you guys do about everything except switch around every instance of "american" and "japanese" Quest for Glory? more like Quest for Boring. HAH.\ i don't even understand the appeal of any non-Japanese RPG I've ever played. also, just for reference, i hate anime and 90% of all entertainment that comes from the nihon. I understand the culture, however, and even understand why Raiden was a great character in MGS 2, so Japanese RPG "quirks" just seem natural to me. for example, ever wonder why the characters are always blonde? obviously it's an "american" thing, but also Japanese culture considers touching blonde hair to give good luck. those who are naturally blonde, of course, are therefore "extremely lucky". blonde blonde blonde. they also love pale skin. that's me, mr. russia. all that said, the new bard's tale looks decent.
