We can remaster him. We have the technology.
Tanukitsune replied to dartmonkey's topic in Video Gaming
I can think of a quite a few, although I wouldn't go as far as calling the previous version obsolete for all of them. For starters, let's admit it, the older portable systems had pretty much terrible screens, I tried playing a Game Boy game on the original system and boy was it hard to see what's on the screen. Many ports are practically obligatory for many reasons, many older games that rely on batteries for saves no longer work, making the original unplayable without altering it. It's almost a hassle to play older games, they look horrible in modern screen and it's too inconvenient to keep an old monitor, speaking of which, gun games don't work on modern monitors, so you probably can't even play Duck Hunt on an original NES without an old TV. But if we forget about the hardware limitations and the fact that you just can't get some of the older games without paying a fortune for them, in many cases some "remasters" do make the original obsolete. Wind Waker HD makes sailing and some quests less of a hassle, so why would I play the original anymore? Grim Fandango let's you play without tank controls.... need I say more? Sometimes ports or even just the "Virtual Console" version has been patched or has fixed bugs and issues that stayed in the original game. Frankly, it should be more of an issue of when the port or re-release is inferior, some versions of Castlevania: SOTN changed the "What is a man?" speech, as far as I know Resident Evil ports removed the "Jill Sandwich" line, many arcade ports are lazy and bad, but in general, I do think that ports and re-releases and better more often than not, sure the faces in Monkey Island Remastered are creepy, but the voices make it much better to me. I'm having a hard time thinking of games where the original version might be better, perhaps those bad arcade ports? But since I never played the original I wouldn't notice, it's like reprinting an old book and changing a words, some hardcore fans will says they like the original is better, but that old edition is out of print and the new one is all we have? If you have the original game, good for you, but not everybody has access to these older games? I'm pretty sure most people don't. As for hipsters... I have no idea how the hipster thing even works?- 25 replies

Wait, shouldn't that be the other way around? Shouldn't there be some fan dub already they could use for cheap, cheap than dubbing a full show?

Which reminds me, has Wakfu been translated into any other languages? I've always wanted to watch it, but it's always in French. I wouldn't mind seeing it subbed, if there aren't other options.

I have no idea why they chose such a name, but I can guarantee this show is 100% safe and it's on Disney, so it's not what it sounds like.

I don't know if this belongs in the anime thread, but I just saw a French "anime" called Lolirock about a musical band of girls that just happen to be princesses from another word who fight evil when not doing concerts... So like a reverse Creamy Mami? Just look at the transformation sequence! <3

Is it me, or do we know almost nothing about the Crystal Gem's past? The Gem Wars they mentioned could have been anywhere from before humans existed to right before Rose met Greg?

Dammit, dammit, DAMMIT! The two "Simple 2000" series games I got the other week refuse to work, the store where I got them had a CD polisher so I thought it would be worth a try. One of them worked once.... when I reset the PS2 it stopped working. To make things MORE frustrating I found a copy of Earth Defense Force/Global Defense Force and that won't isn't readable either! I'm debating whether to try to toothpaste trick I heard of, or something similar, is it worth the risk? :\

So... did anybody see the Steven Universe/ Uncle Grandpa crossover? Nobody seems to be talking about it, it was supposed to be an April Fool's joke and non-canon. it did seem to poke a little fun at the fans about shipping and gemsonas though. As for the latest episode about how Greg met Rose:

Oh, of the two games I did enjoy CC more, but the fact it had freeplay meant it wouldn't challenge me as much to get better, with Danmaku 2 I knew I was getting better since by the time I finally beat the first two stages that gave me trouble were a breeze. But then again, CC looks crazy hard, so maybe I should shut up. I just beat Claire, which is like Lone Survivor only more blatant with it's influences, some of the sound effects are directly from well, either RE or Silent Hill, that's for sure. While I did enjoy it a lot, the levels were too big and empty for my taste and it felt a bit like they made it longer just because they could. I didn't even understand how the endings worked and I got the second best ending and I got lost a lot.

I think some of us made a big deal of it because we didn't know he just gave it to LEGO pretty much the moment he got it, that's the big difference, if you do this kind of thing and KEEP the domain, you're a jerk. We I first heard about this news I didn't even know who did, all I knew is that someone bought the LEGO Universe domain that wasn't working for LEGO.

I've completed a few short games this week: -Disillusions Manga Horror: Yes, that's it's actual name. All you do is walk around in a scene, touching items to trigger something and have the character comment on it with the most anime portrait ever and using some speech program to say some words in Japanese... It's a glorious trainwreck? -Astray: An Amnesia styled horror game, only not scary and not as good, but OK-ish? -Danmaku Unlimited 2 & Crimzon Clover: Shmups, not much to say about them except I was actually bummed out a bit when Crimzon had freeplay already unlocked. -Monsterbag: a Vita game that is free if you have PS+ where the game starts as the whimsy adventures of girls and her monster backpack who tries to catch up with her when she leaves for the bus... and then the game turns dark FAST! I'd call it a weird stealth puzzle game? The Monsterbad can only jump from person to person's back and if they are angry and looking your way, they will attack and kill you, sometimes you have to time it right, sometimes you have to use the environment and solve a puzzle to advance. It had some frustrating moments, but I really enjoyed the game!

I heard about the domain thing, but I didn't know it was someone who worked on Polygon... Shouldn't they know better? I don't know if this is some breach of contract or just trust, but how can you do something so dumb? I don't know how the legal systems works here, but I assume that at minimum WB should blacklist Polygon?

Life is Strange: A Time-Traveling High School Adventure from Dontnod

I got Life is Strange Episode One from the Squeenix Easter thing and... Damn, I'm really loving the game so far! -
I think Scribd might be pretty similar to Marvel Unlimited, that's were I read a ton of the old Ms. Marvel. I haven't read the Inhumans part yet, but I know Lockjaw is involved so I'm sure I'll be happy about it.

I've read the first two issues of Squirrel Girl and the first volume of Ms. Marvel and they were both amazing! If I hadn't read the other Ms./Captain Marvel stuff a bit first I would have been very confused by how Kamala gains her powers. Is it a good thing that I felt that at the end of the first volume of Ms. Marvel ended too soon? I guess I was left wanting more. ;

You know, it is rather sad that the term is "Metroidvania" when it's likely we'll never get another Metroid or Castlevania, specially a "Metroidvania" one. Anyway, most game genres names are dumb. XP

I heard there will be a Vita version, I'm waiting for that one?

Does anybody know about some upbeat/fun podcasts or audiodramas in podcast form? I just found out my iPod is too old to support Scribd audiobooks and I need something for my Holy Week trip to keep me sane. I also got the Humble Comedy Bundle only to find out they are videos and not comedy CDs as I hoped. :^\

Damn, and it's small team, right? If it was a bigger team I might think about it, but with only a handful of people it's not just a drop in a bucket, if that makes any sense. Also, I play Hidden Object Games, some of them are pretty good.

I got those two and saw that The Vanishing of Ethan Carter is 60% off, that was a decent game, right?

I have spare Steam codes for the Just Cause Collection and Deus Ex Game of the Year Edition.

In the end I watched the first season of Pretty Cure while playing games, while it did grow on me I still think it's good, but I can see how this show has so many sequels, look at this ridiculous list: That's... that's just silly.

I get your point too, Yeah, Sailor Moon was one of the LGBT friendly shows we had, but "shojo" in general in pretty LGBT friendly in general. I guess that's true too, it's not an ideal scenario to have the first asexual couple show up because the species is genderless, but I realize this territory is so unexplored that even a genderless species saying it's genderless is shocking. The only asexual character I know is from a webcomic... it's a start?

The only Dungeon Crawler I've enjoyed so far is Legend of Grimrock, I don't know enough about the genre to know what I like or not. I only know that I hate when enemies spawn behind me or too quickly. I guess it might get bored if it's just 1000 floors of dungeons with not much happening between floors?
