Shit, that was probably the best Buzzfeed I've ever seen. Horrifying. However, I did notice in the comments, someone said Australia hasn't had a spider related death since 1979. I guess the antivenom is readily at hand. I think a lot of them aren't exactly lethal, but they bite like mother fuckers.

I love when shit fits perfectly. I'm kind of amazed actually. Also, dat Calvin and Hobbes box set.

It's pretty similar to the Penny Arcade guy's apology as well. Start with a sob story first to excuse the behavior. I give up with this stuff. Really just curious if he's only apologizing for this because he was caught or if it is just this occurrence so far since some Neogaf forum says there's more.

Through some links from the original Kotaku article, I found my way to a Neogaf thread that had someone on Twitter saying this isn't the first time Josh Mattingly acted like this, but instead is the first time he was caught. I didn't want to go through 40 pages to see if anyone dug up any examples, but if that's the case his apology comes off as fake. Any word on other examples?

I completely forgot about Festival of Blood. Man that was great! They completely fixed the tediousness of finding the collectables on that too. Hope it carries over to the new one.

I can't tell if this took place within Facebook's messaging system or on her actual Facebook wall. Either way, it's a pretty nasty situation, but if it's on the wall, it's downright terrible.

Oh oops, I just wanted to make sure. No problem.

What?! I think you need to just fly to Dallas at this point and just walk in and pick a desk. Then send them the bill for your plane ticket.

Hey, I think I'll try for the Nick Breckon painting. Is that okay Blambo or have you already started? Also, Toblix, is that the Duck decision in Walking Dead?

Idle Thumbs 141: "I was too busy losing it."

Did the Australian police force ever catch that mugger? -
So is the O.K. a group of underground reptiles? When is the end coming?

Well I'm only there for one more day, it's good pay and easy as hell. I don't think there's any chance of me going on permanent though. I don't think I want to now anyway. I'm actually more bummed I may not get my interview to be a postman. But yeah, I've gotta stop being overdramatic.

No the work is easy, but everyone is kind of rude to me and ignoring me so I can't finish anything. I doubt this will lead to other work. They were making fun of me in another room because the only portable PC I had is a desktop that does ethernet only. Since I offered a flashdrive to exchange files, I guess that means I'm "outdated" and don't understand Dropbox. They said next I'd be bringing in a zip drive. ARE FLASHDRIVES OUTDATED PIECES OF EQUIPMENT NOW? I DON'T UNDERSTAND. They should really keep their voices down if they are going to make fun of someone. Ho hum, I guess this is how all marketing firms are, snobby jerks. Also I had an interview with the Postal Service tomorrow and since I still have to be on this job site, I might have screwed it up by asking to reschedule it. The USPS worker who responded was rude about it and said *maybe* I could get one next week. Ergh. This is all very annoying to me. Everything is a disaster that ruins my life forever. So, yes?

I personally really liked Infamous 2, outside of the tedious shard hunting, but 1 was the pits. I'm not sure I'm looking forward to this new one since the character switch and all, but it doesn't matter because I probably won't own a PS4 for years and years.

It played for Austin Film Festival something or other but I hate paying for festivals when I just want to see the one thing.

I finished this about a week ago, and while I loved this game, the criticisms I have are completely in line with Tegan's. Big brother in general left me cold as well, but it's not necessarily a bad thing since it's a nice little story that is well thought out on its own. It's just if we are supposed to feel the game is truly heart wrenching or tear jerking, then perhaps the characters should have been more defined or maybe a real language should have been spoken. It's most likely fine the way it is, because I like the tale and the way it uses the game mechanics as inherent to the experience. I'm just a sucker for this style of platformers, possibly being my favorite genre, so any time I can do the jumping and climbing over cinematic landscapes, I'm there. I also found it much better than Limbo, which honestly left me a bit bored or felt somewhat tedious, especially as the years go by and I remember it more. Probably the most emotional moment for me was when you find out I don't really understand the owl gryphon: The art side is just beautiful and astounding. I love the character designs in terms of their simplicity in contrast to the gorgeous storybook style backgrounds and the balance of colors are just right for the game, not too drab considering the usual fit for such a story and also not too in your face to the point of distraction. The way the light and shadow are on display here are just an intricate work of art in itself. I can't believe the production value put in to this game. I think Brothers must need to sell many copies in order to make a profit here. I sure hope they do. The amount of original art assets on display seems on par with a AAA game and not the usual downloadable title. Perhaps they got a bit of mileage out of repeats of assets, but the environment alone seems chock full of original locations that had to be separately modeled and textured. Unfortunately, the animation for the most part sucks and kind of weighs down on an otherwise high end production. I suspect what happened here is a case of mocap being jammed in to a game that did not need it. I saw a short making of and it had the director acting out many of the parts, but I am not sure to what extent it is used because enough animators are credited to the point where they must have been going beyond just mocap cleanup. I'm guessing nearly all of the physical stuff with the brothers and the bosses and creatures were the original work of animators, thus being solid, and the bad acting was relegated to the mocap. Too much crappy flailing around and awkwardness happens when interacting with other characters. Possibly it was just something the director pushed for realism and could not be changed despite the animators on hand. Also this makes me want to seek out films by Josef Fares. Is anyone here living in Sweden and has seen some of the films he has directed?

Oh cool, I don't think I've ever heard from a real archaeologist before, being more of a movie job to me. Can you elaborate on everything you used to do at the lower rung? Did you travel to many parts of the world and meet all sorts of cultures in search of great finds?

Idle Thumbs 130: Fundamentally dangerous to the notion of culture
syntheticgerbil replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
I keep putting off writing this post even though this has been one of my favorite episodes since it was released, but I fully endorse what Remo is saying on this podcast in terms of copyright expiring and classic stories being inherent in our culture. It does suck what Disney did and I wish the copyright extensions laws could revert back. I don't fully understand how it works these days for intellectual property other than I think a corporation can keep renewing copyright as long as they exist and then hundred or so years? The argument against Chris seemed to be that shoddy fan works would run rampant and become profitable, thus hurting culture even more by making fan fiction abundant and stifling the need for original ideas, but considering that tends to already happen, I can't see copyright expiration as being a factor against any of that. People sell their fan art of characters all the time in terms of prints and a lot of artists tend to become prominent from doing fan works instead of any kind of original ideas (Or sexy ladies. Or sexy ladies from a certain fandom). I contest that after 100 years or whatever after an original set copyright, the cream is going to rise to the top and only the best works will be remembered. Great authors and artists who play with classic public domain characters or concepts tend to do it with the intent of doing something interesting or saying something important rather than rehash. There's always something new to bring to the table that will be valuable because of an original great work. Chris Remo is fully on the money here. Plus I think the other aspect to consider in terms of copyright expiration is the republishing of old works and keeping it in circulation as long as we can as a society. Once it's public domain, it can be taken upon any company or even fan to profit off of the ability to keep the work at hand in the public eye. Corporations, especially movie studios, for whatever reason have tended to guard their releases letting them rot away in a vault somewhere or just something was never properly collected in the first place (like the early large format newspaper comics). There's been so many great restorations of silent films and early comics in the last couple decades that it's almost a better time to live in than when they first premiered because it's readily available to anyone. Should anything go out of print, I'm sure publisher or individual will be in line. It's was a great time when the copyrights on multiple Winsor McCay works expired around 2005 or so because multiple publishers were jumping on the ability to collect his newspaper comics and competing for completion or superior restoration. Let's also not forget music, which may be lost forever inhabiting a rotting vinyl the way the major labels tend to work. -
I really wanted to contribute to this, but I have no time and I'm super slow. Maybe the next time!
