Oh original series one, and not the other one that's already broken. -
A Dedicated Thread For Talking About Star Trek Episodes
syntheticgerbil replied to BigJKO's topic in Movies & Television
What is cooler, the Enterprise evading the Doomsday machine or facing it and firing at it? The lasers were pretty cheesy, even in the new 3D scenes, but I don't necessarily have to interpret it that way. (I'm drawing a licensed Star Trek print of this scene if my question is confusing.) -
The Ultimate Playthrough, Metal Gears!?
syntheticgerbil replied to Reyturner's topic in Video Gaming
There is some contextual Peacewalker codecs in game but it doesn't often seem to work, definitely not as contextual as previous games, since all long codec conversations are in a separate out of game menu, as you said. Some are funny easter eggs like if you point the camera at yourself while wearing no clothes and just mash the square button (assuming you mapped it for codecs).- 198 replies

The term bad ass disgusts me though.

Idle Thumbs 211: Spector's Oil

Haha, I don't think what that song is about necessarily applies to the Witcher. -
I always played Peach as a kid because of the hovering ability, but later playing Mario Advance, I found Luigi's high jump and floatiness to be essential. I think they may have added that for that version.

That is very rude. It seems when can only rate threads in this subforum. Is it to sort of rate the episode of the podcast? If so it doesn't display the star rating on the index. It's also missing from Twin Peaks Rewatch. -
Haha, holy crap that's amazing. Has she attempted Lost Levels? I had beaten them years ago on the GBC Mario Deluxe and All Stars but I tried more recently when I got the All Stars collectors disc on Wii and I just had absolutely not patience anymore. They are such a frustrating chore. Mario 2 is so good though, does she like that one? Those freaky ass masks scared me so much as a kid, but I think I may have spent the most time with that as a kid, still sad I couldn't save.

Oh man, I don't know if anyone here was been watching Battle Creek, but I'm liking it more and more as I download more episodes. What can I say, I CAN watch it Sundays on antennae TV on CBS, but then I have to be on a schedule. CBS should really consider putting its free shows up on Hulu like everyone else so I wouldn't have to track these down. Really kind of annoyed it was cancelled now even though the writing was on the wall from the second I saw the pilot, which was kind of bad. The first episode was pretty goofy and felt like it was stuck in the mid 90s, but as it goes on I'm definitely seeing more David Shore in it than the Vince Gilligan written pilot. Dishonestly marketing the show as if it were something truly from the creator of Breaking Bad didn't help it at all. It's not that kind of show, even though it does have the right amount of humor seen in earlier Breaking Bad before the show become a boring slow talk fest. Also I don't feel like CBS gave it a chance to get out of the awkward phase of season 1 before cancelling it. Almost no show is very good in the first season. But yeah, it is unfortunately such a relic of an older style of TV with some modern updates. It's not EXTREME and SHOCKING like every show has to be now and it doesn't have constant, distracting blaring music and camera cuts to indicate that THIS IS EXCITING like Bruckheimer procedurals Also it's fucking funny when they employ that bullshit on garbage reality TV like Bruckheimer's Amazing Race. I had to leave the room when my wife used to watch that show because I would get so annoyed at all this constant dramatic music when nothing dramatic was happening on screen 75% of the time. It's a lot like Due South, if anyone ever watched that, which was very enjoyable in it's own right. Also David Shore wrote many of the episodes early on in Due South. Also the guy who plays Vecchio appears in an episode as a drug dealer. Took him five seasons to make an appearance on House even though House made an Inuit joke episodes into season 1.

I didn't know we could vote on threads! What a useless function. I have also given this thread five stars. -
Why isn't she playing All Stars where you can save? I hated not being able to save in that as a kid. However had I known A+Start trick as a kid I would have been fine.

Do You Have a Preferred Perspective for Games?
syntheticgerbil replied to Architecture's topic in Video Gaming
I have a really hard time dealing with games that are in first person view. I guess it's snobby of me, but all I can think about the whole time is I'm basically just controlling a 3D camera. Unlike most people who are convinced they are immersed in the world simply because they are controlling a 3D camera, I get really taken out of it because all I see is lack of budget or in some cases skill. The team was not able to model or animate a character to look at and all I see are disembodied legs and arms, usually holding on to a gun, which bores me to death. And of course I know that skill and budget are not often the case and it's usually just a decision, since a lot of AAA games are first person and have plenty of NPCs who were modeled and animated. But because of this decision I miss out on the animation and nuance of the main character and that takes me out of the story since nonverbal animations are a major thing when it comes to acting. But if there is no story, I guess it doesn't matter so it can be whatever view. I would rather look at a cool character though. -
Dick Valentine "Everywhere I went in Ireland last month, all I saw everywhere were posters imploring people to vote no. Struggled to see any that implored people to vote yes. Morale of the story? If you are making posters, you're losing. That's my big takeaway! That....and Ireland came out and crushed it. Well done, Ireland! Love that place even more now."

Did anyone ever see that old movie The Cure from 1995? I was thinking of it a few weeks ago since I remember liking it as a kid despite how sad it was and damn it's still a pretty good watch.

He's just basically Luigi. Are you saying it is actually Wario who is the beautiful man?

Yooka-Laylee: Rare-viving the animal duo platformer that we've all yearned for.
syntheticgerbil replied to N1njaSquirrel's topic in Video Gaming
I really don't know where I stand on collectables. Generally I love it if it stays to a manageable amount like Yoshi's Island or the cages in Rayman 1. I am not into collectables being littered around all over the place ala most Rare games and Jak and Daxter. It can get really overwhelming and even though it does encourage exploration, it starts to make the landscape look ugly and littered. I usually hold Rayman 2 up as the sweet spot, but sometimes I wonder if the amount of lums in that game is too much. Generally you get secret areas you have to find that contain small jackpots and then otherwise they float around paths you have to go. Sometimes the ones on the paths can become a pain in the ass though, but I think this balance usually works well as they serve for both exploring and then for helping you on more tense sequences. I sort of liked how Beyond Good and Evil continued this design philosophy with the pearls where you are trying to find the secret parts of the dungeons for small caches but then completing smaller tasks for the rest. I don't really consider Rayman Origins/Legends to be collectable games (outside of the cages) since it's more of a scoring function. What I think is hilarious is that Conker's Bad Fur Day is one of the most anti collectable platformers I've ever played besides the old school ones. I wonder if anyone was annoyed at Rare that those guys didn't stick in a ton of crap to grab. I think there there was maybe one possible chunk of cash you could miss but otherwise gathering them was part of the linear game path. -
Rebuild looks so much better in terms of character construction, animation, and overall quality of art, it's much more convincing as something worth watching. Didn't they add a bunch of fan service too for some reason?

Idle Thumbs 211: Spector's Oil
syntheticgerbil replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
I'm not sure you guys separating film fans from game fans in terms of craziness is especially accurate. You have to consider the reason the Silent Hills fiasco is causing such outrage is because fans were given something substantial and then it was taken away. You can never play the P.T. demo again, it is now some kind of rare thing for no plausible reason whatsoever, even though it's just a bundle of files. No one who did not previously own a PS4 and download it can experience it for themselves anymore. Just that the game will not be finished is only a part of that story. Also P.T. was released pretty much as a standalone and it was never confirmed that that would even be in the final game in that form or at all. Think of it as a curiosity. You have to consider it closer to other games where there was large chunks of working things where it was different before it was either cancelled or pushed into a different direction, like Sonic X-Treme for Saturn (which I think fans put together a build of), Earthbound Zero, the early version of The Dig with the separate graphics and fourth character, or even strange fans of Rare who get all wishy washy for the original beta version of Conker's Bad Fur Day where everything was happy and there was a lot of jumping. This is not to say game fans aren't crazy in so many cases, but I think it's often just a subset of nerd rage in general, like when fans of something like Guardians of the Galaxy track down the one critic who dared give it a bad review and send them an abusive message. Considering Del Toro is a bit more finicky than most directors in the dozens of projects he gets attached to, there's a sort of skepticism that goes along with being a GDT fan. To make this example equal to P.T., you'd have to have backed out of a Guillermo Del Toro project where production has already been started and halted, which doesn't really happen with the guy, unlike the ruined Gilliam's Don Quixote movie that some people are still hopeful for to this day. Otherwise, as shown in the most recent art book, GDT's journals and small illustrations along with some maquettes and concept art are probably the most you are going to get. -

Well I should say limited animation doesn't bother me as much as if the frames are at least well drawn like say Ergo Proxy. But then the really well animated stuff is often simplified, it's so give and take. I really just have a problem with the character designs more than anything else and maybe the stale backgrounds. The three mains are all the same body in face, except different hair and boobs. Their heads get bigger as it goes to the top and it looks bizarre, like they are all balloon face. Plus when they are drawn from the side it's like the anatomy collapsed in on itself. As far as Punpun, I was more just interested in exploring the artist as a whole because Inio Asano draws well realized panels and refined to boot. From what I was seeing it was like a far less wacky Taiyo Matsumoto. All too many manga artists spend a lot of time just drawing the characters in blank space, well actually most comic artists across the globe, so it's always refreshing when I see an artist who might set up a scene more like a film with a background and camera angle.

I was joking in reference to another thread, nevermind. I don't watch the show, so from what I know I'm surprised Game of Thrones hasn't had a rape per episode actually.
