You sent a payment of 492.00 NOK to Microsoft Luxembourg S.a.r.l.
syntheticgerbil replied to toblix's topic in Idle Banter
Oh weird, this happened to my friend two weeks ago and they spent the same money on FIFA. He was out of $80 for a while even though calling Microsoft the same day. Took almost a week and a half to get the money back. Not sure what's with the Paypal account link to Microsoft accounts, but this is super lame it keeps happening to people. -
I completely understand all of that, and I know printing full color art books is not cheap shit. I know this very well, as I collect a lot of artbooks, storyboards books, and sketchbooks sometimes spending over $100 on some of them. They are almost always limited editions for these sort of things because the creators try to only print enough to those who will buy. Consequently, the more you print of these books, the less you pay per production of each one. So $500 is pretty steep for the simple benefit of an artbook which I think a lot of people might up their pledge more to something in the $200 range. Maybe art books are hard to get people to buy in general? I sure seem to have a hell of a time obtaining any that I've missed. Obviously there's a lot of incentive for a high pledge that doesn't go to the printing of a full book, not sure why you guys are seeming to defend that if it were so.

Fuck, I think I can scrounge money together for the $100 hopefully. This is going to suck. The $500 pledge for the art book really sucks, because there's no way any time soon I would be able to do that without feeling a ton of guilt and not paying a few bills. I do really want that art book in actual book form though... maybe later on they can sell some off from the Double Fine store?

So you can no longer get to the original Space Jam website by opening the DVD site and clicking "Theatrical Website." Does this have something to do with the podcast generating too many hits for such an ancient thing? Either way, it's still available here: http://www2.warnerbros.com/spacejam/movie/jam.htm

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2080742704/party-of-sin So I found this from the Idlethumbs Kickstarter somehow and I was first really liking most of the artwork (there is some ugly ass cutscene video floating around however) and the 3D models and art direction. Then I saw it was a puzzle/platformer and now my interest is piqued. Probably will throw $10 on it next paycheck. I think I would enjoy it.

I'm gonna get people kissing me now.

Really? I can download it just fine. The file name is: video-80274-h264_high.mp4

Just put you on my list, Sno. I'm also Sean in 3DS land since it gives you first names and doesn't allow you to choose my Idlethumbs nickname. Hopefully this avoids some confusion.

Strange, I can't think of any part of Tekkon Kinkreet that is weird just to be weird. It seems to be a very solid and clear cut movie to me that tells a fully formed story. Did you watch Mind Game? That one definitely fits the weird for weirdness sake part. This talk is kind of making me sad because I wish there were more animated films like this where it's more for an "adult" in the non tits and blood way but with visual flair through special animated techniques. I guess the problem is they take a while to make with very little return. Also Castorp, if you are okay with shorter pieces, there's a few anthology type deals out there that have a generally interesting and visually rich output. Robot Carnival, Genius Party 1 and 2, and Memories. Those are all japanese though, with some shorts being some straight run of the mill anime. The Old Lady and the Pigeons, an earlier short from Chomet, is a lot of fun to watch as well. There's also stand alone shorts from some of those Japanese directors from those anthologies that are also very neat: Noiseman Sound Insect, Cat Soup, and Dead Leaves.

Oh god, you're right. Wikipedia says the term was coined late 2004. What a different age we lived in.

2004 crowd vs. the 2009 crowd. Go!

Very good recommendations! I have not seen Twice Upon A Time but maybe I should. The whole thing is on youtube strangely enough. I recommend Tekkon Kinkreet as well. Same animation team from Mind Game in a similar style, just less trippy and more heartwrenching.

You could just send him back some blank DVD-Rs with tracking just to fuck with him and then he'd have to prove you sent him counterfeits of his counterfeits.

Wow, and I thought people pledging $100 were crazy. I guess if you all have the extra money and love the podcast that much...

I'm not sure if Ebay UK has different rules, but everytime I've had this happen, I've made a Paypal claim about the seller sending pirated or counterfeit items and have gotten an instant refund. By their own rules you should not have to ship it back if they are DVD R discs. My guess is that the Ebay rep you were talking to was a lower rung idiot, which I've had happen. Usually if you just keep annoyingly telling the person that you want to talk to their supervisor, things can start happening in your favor. EDIT: Apparently Ebay has changed the rules on this last year, so nevermind. People are annoyed that somehow Ebay can require you to return counterfeit items even though it's against the law. Sheesh, I only buy on Ebay now for rarer stuff and ask tons of questions because I've been burned in the past, but I think more than ever I'm just going to try to dodge whatever I can. I never use Ebay to get a deal on a common item now. Always Amazon first.

This is one of the most amazing quotes that could ever happen in this context. Speechless.

I guess this means there are ton of listeners who never visit these rotten forums? Crazy.

If anything, my guess is that those numbers are mostly boosted by jobs in California. It's relative. Also, it's very possible that artists, programmers, designers, QA, and producers get paid less at Double Fine as you often sacrifice some pay to work at a smaller company that you love. This is just my guess though, as I do not work there. Anyway, is all this debate to wonder if this is enough money for them to make an adventure game with three people or just doing the math for the sake of it?
