I think looking up any of the threads in the past on Metal Gear, especially 3 may help? I really don't think the 3DS version is a good port at all having played the demo but I seriously loved the original game. I can imagine having a claustrophic lower res screen with not the same kind of field of view just hurts everything about the game play. The view port and menus are very clumsy on the 3DS version as well, it requires you to do too much. Adding the tilt stuff to the view port didn't really help things either. I also think Metal Gear Solid 3 is the least ludicrous in terms of story of all Metal Gear games (except the very original), so if you found it preposterous by the 3DS demo alone, it's probably not for you. To me, that's a lot of the appeal of the Metal Gear games, the mix of drama with a bunch of supernatural crap and spy movie double crossings, all laced with quirkiness and humor in places. That said, I really did not enjoy most of MGS2 and I'm imagining when I get to 4, I'm going to think it sucks. Kojima could *really* use an editor though, I agree. Otherwise, gameplay side, I've always enjoyed Metal Gear games, but they can definitely get arduous in spots. MGS3 has a steep learning curve because of the difficulty to hide yourself early on and learning the controls freshly at the same time. It becomes super easy as you get better camo, weapons, and skills later. Anyway, don't play the 3DS version if you are wanting to test the series, that's all I can stress.

I feel like I want one, but seeing how I use my 3DS right now, which sometimes for games but mostly fuck around with Streetpassing or drawing Swapnotes, there's no way I'd walk around with a giant DS 24/7 the way I do now. Also, what the hell is a CPP?

I think my biggest issue is that I see masculine and feminine properties and assume both males and females will take on certain roles or handle situations certain ways. Sometimes generalizing this way comes in handy, sometimes not. It's hard to always give the benefit of the doubt, but I try. But I don't think jokes about those qualities are funny. Seems very lazy when people tell jokes like that.

I wish this thing would have pen tilt and pressure sensitivity so you could have a cheap version of the Cintiq. Alas.

Hey I work with a designer who did some levels on this. Neat!

Obligatory Comical YouTube Thread II: The Fall of YouTube
syntheticgerbil replied to pabosher's topic in Idle Banter
Hahaha, I landed on a similar auction for video game instructions or a box or something and it had a recording telling me there was no game included. It did not go that nuts however. -
Finally played the text adventure, bbx. Neat! I liked being smothered by buttocks and ending in purgatory the most. If I died do I win?

Leisure Suit Larry in "gimme your money"
syntheticgerbil replied to elmuerte's topic in Video Gaming
Also John Henderson, who runs the chapter, was just trying to say to hold off on the Kickstarter links before the Austin IGDA figures out how to display them, so Paul Trowe apparently just wanted it all right away and called him Mr. Dictator. -

http://www.facebook....ps/55276414674/ Check out Paul Trowe getting mad that he can't market on the Austin IGDA page. He calls the chapter head "Hitler," for not allowing him to spam with Kickstarter stuff. Not sure if everyone can see the link. This guy just doesn't stop going guns blazing everywhere lately. -
Some heartless jackass makes a fake Majora's Mask HD trailer because he hates me, specifically
syntheticgerbil replied to Udvarnoky's topic in Video Gaming
That one wasn't really a remake though, the graphics were the same. They did add an extra quest and dungeon though, outside of the Four Swords separate game. I do think that was a pretty substantial rerelease though and it's now Majora's turn. Also thinking about extra dungeons, I would like that on the next Zelda remake. The only thing Ocarina had added besides the complete graphical revamp was a boss rush, which totally doesn't count as new. -
I like you writing up on it very much so, didn't mean to bag on you. Often threads get merged unless the one before is long closed, so that's probably what will happen here once a mod or admin sees it. You can't search "Last of Us" without quotes since it has "of" and "us" which are too small.

EDIT: I see what I did, going up to the top from any page to search automatically has "this topic" turned on in which to search from. I didn't notice that before. Nevermind.

I guess that's the thing, I always interpreted the song as the woman being coy rather than not wanting to be outright be with the man. I mean, I could very well be wrong but it didn't seem that extreme. *shrug*

I was actually of the opinion always that that Penny Arcade comic strip was pretty dumb (it's a shit comic in general), so I see the rape culture part in that case. The way Gabe and Tycho handled it was even more lame in all of that business. But on the Christmas song, I always read that particular lyric in question meaning more that the woman was given a strong drink instead of a spiked drink, or a date rape drug as Anita suggests, especially considering when it was written. There are just way worse things to concentrate on, like the Penny Arcade conflict described in your link (way beyond the stupid comic strip in question). In the same video she goes over the Mariah Carrey Christmas song as being about every woman needing a man to complete their life and then showing a bunch of posters for romantic comedies promoting this seems like even more of a stretch to me. If anything most romantic comedies are just about people getting together and the end, not that their life is magically fulfilled until the end, male or female. Besides, people want to love and it significantly tends to improve your life when you're with someone (healthily of course). However for health reasons, I don't endorse listening to Mariah Carrey. Then there's the thing about the siren seductress villian she gets all up in arms because it portrays women as manipulative. I feel like she can pick out a bunch of movies and shows with this trope, a lot of lazy shows especially, but does it really matter if a villian is portrayed this way? Doesn't seem like it's promoting women to seem manipulative to me. If anything almost any villian in any form seems to have some degree of manipulation at hand. Then she goes over things like Married With Children and it's kind of like... well yeah, obviously. Who even likes that show anyway? Who is even influenced in life by that awful garbage? Seems like time would be better spent on criticizing things people actually enjoy and seeing where they could have improved. My main concern with her is also she never focuses on good examples on the videos I've seen so far. Everything is so negative and there's always some grasping at straws in my opinion.

I was excited for this, but I think that gameplay demo killed it. It just ended with multiple people screaming FUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCKKKKK like a bunch of meatheads and it got ridiculously violent over nothing. There goes the hope for a concentration on Naughty Dog doing something more with the adventure/exploring aspects they had really going on in the beginning of Uncharted 3. This seems like this could have been this game, but the exploring in the gameplay trailer just sort of showed walking around and dodging violent encounters. Also, I could have sworn we already had a thread for this game, but it appears the new search function is ass so I wouldn't know.

I don't know if most of you realize it but this link contains a video with the full scene in question. It's really not as bad as anything Rosenberg himself has said to make it sound creepy and strange. If anything I'm more concerned with the amount of screen time Lara spends as a bloody beaten mess instead of some dude briefly coming on to her before she kills him.

My only issue with Anita Sarkeesian is that she is very extreme in her views. Everything seems to count as disparaging towards women. Going through many videos on her website Feminist Frequency has just left me feel like she tends to nitpick the tiniest shows and media and glorify them rather than concentrate on bigger picture issues. Calling "Baby, It's Cold Outside" a song that "continues to promote rape culture" just makes me never want to listen to her ever, just because that's so over the top. That all being said, no one in their right mind should attack or threaten her for having a Kickstarter for simply wanting to put her views and analyzations out in video form. Many people will find them interesting and it makes people (mainly silly boys), who disagree with her look like caveman thugs. My coworker and sometimes boss who is very much a feminist and thinks a lot about women in video games puts it in better perspective for what I agree with: that there just aren't enough games targeting strong women who are main characters, not that ever targeting males with sexy women is overly harmful. Just lack of balance it seems really. So in Anita's video I feel like her showing the sexy curvy fairies in Rayman Origins kind of shows how I would imagine it should be. Michel Ancel wanted some sexy fairies in that game in particular. However I think Ly in Rayman 2 and Jade in Beyond Good Evil are both strong female characters who are not really eye candy, so I think he balances it out much more by doing one or the other. Anyway, rambling. Feminism is definitely a subject I'm ill equipped to handle though.

Just saw this again, and WHAT? I might look in the CD folders. That quote is still super weird even involving a guy. Why is someone who was nearly raped or in the middle of trying to get away from a rape sexy?

Two Guys from Andromeda (Space Quest) Reunion
syntheticgerbil replied to lobotomy42's topic in Video Gaming
I didn't get the idea that Ace Hardway was the main character, however I think it's for sure they are making a spiritual successor. I thought that was sort of expected. They did get permission to use the rights to the Two Guys from Andromeda name from Activision, but they are not allowed to use the Space Quest name. -

Really, you had bugs? I'm nearly done with the Master Quest (at Ganon's castle) and I have had a very smooth experience so far. -

I could be wrong, but it seems like it's already jumped up another $40,000 from the last time I looked yesterday evening. That's hopeful. On the spam, I *really* hope that wasn't someone with the Kickstarter page.
