I guess that makes sense, Death Cab for Cutie has never been edgy.

I've always wondered if the Tumblr developers are ever going to consider adding a comments field. Is it just part of the culture of Tumblrs to just not have one? I often want to post comments on a few artists putting their work up on Tumblr, but it's like the only way to show your appreciation is to repost.

Hmm, that's almost a $40 deal, if we consider Halo 4 to be $60. Maybe I can ask the Halo fan at work if he wants to buy that and then I'll buy the codes from him for $40.

I can't believe how much this hurts to read.

First, I think you guys need to go reread what I wrote because I did not call Lucas a bigot or tyrant, but was saying charity does not make a saint. I know I'm not the best writer by far, but I'm not sure how that confusion started. Second, not dismissing any of that. As spoken, your original statement against Hoatzin's skepticism was, and that is my reply to your bad attitude, because the very act of donating a large sum creates shield where you people like you will paint another as a person who hates education or whatever because they cock an eyebrow at big business writing big checks. Anyone is more than welcome to have a negative reaction or just be unsure towards a kneejerk charity donation in a large sum without you having to paint them as trying to be a hipster simply by disagreeing. Hipsters usually like to argue about something like Death Cab for Cutie before they sold out anyway. And anyway, had Hoatzin not said anything about Gates' donations as a precursor to what could happen with Lucas/Disney money and the continued privatization of important public sectors like education in the United States, I would not have even considered it. So it's now food for thought on my end on whether or not throwing $4bil at education will make a huge difference or as Thunderpeel alluded to, but did not necessarily agree with, that it could help squeeze this acquisition past the antitrust committee. All you need is one politician who has some money to gain from corporate interest to call the help of another who does not have the same interest but needs some money for his educational reform platform for reelection wherever he is located and still education suffers.

No I didn't call Lucas either of those things. I said everyone with power has a money flow to charity basically, the worst dictators to the best smiling candidates all have a fund going. This is my basis for not giving a celebrity or big businessman an automatic free pass. Again, you are putting a dollar value on goodness? Just throwing money around doesn't exactly make it effective or worthwhile outside of making Lucas look good. But I guess Shammack already caught the biggest issues I had with the original sentiment.

Question about a film discussed in "The Idle Thumbs Podcast"
syntheticgerbil replied to Koholos's topic in Idle Banter
I didn't enjoy Cronos, but I enjoyed Ron Perlman running around like a big dork. Drive felt somewhat similar in a way. -
Neat! I had no idea any of this was going on. All fixed.

Just having a landfill full of cash doesn't automatically mean you're a saint who is not open to criticism. Every fucking fat cat out there gives some sum of money to charity. Check your favorite tyrant or bigoted pundant and tell me they don't give some of their large flowing cash to some charity or have even started one themselves. This is something you just do in the land of celebrity. To act like someone is bullet proof or can never commit a crime amongst men just because they gave some cash that helped some kids is ridiculous. That's not to say George Lucas is a good ol' Jimmy Savile, but what is there to like about Mouse money being offered to fix our public schools? Hoatzin said the rest way better than I could ever attempt, as it was his original objection, but your attitude on this really rubbed me the wrong way. Anyway, my only take on all of this is just being dumbfounded on where all of our antitrust laws have gone. Another major acquisition by the largest media company of all time. Why is this okay? I've seen some news articles say that the deal is not yet done because it must pass antitrust inspection, yet other articles (and the charity announcement) seem to say this is already happening for sure.

Only the best protests have strange vulgar bro nudity. How would we have done the Boston Tea Party and Vietnam War marches without such methods? I mean tea bagging is apparently the next big thing already.

Ahaha why does Ubisoft still continue to do that strange thing where their cell phone games have sexy pictures as a reward for beating levels? I don't understand why this was every a motivator to have a cell phone game. I figured they had stopped since PoP 2008 cell phone version.

I'm not sure there is an existing thread on this game, I searched. If there was though, it'd be locked by now. I love the Oddworld games so much, I love the art, stories, themes, characters, environments, puzzles, gameplay, flow, and creativity. I just never got around to playing Stranger's Wrath when the Xbox version came out even though I had purchased a copy. I had just started college and by that time, I was constantly working on projects and holding a full time job. Those years allowed no time for involved video games and only small handheld type affairs. When the HD version was announced, I was ready to get around to it, but I think it took about two years to come out. It's for the best though as it's not rushed like so many other HD collections and is one of the few to really take advantage of the title HD. So this game is really interesting to me. It is a very disjointed experience compared to any Oddworld before. It lacks the flow, story, and charming characters (for the most part) of the ones before but definitely plays better than Munch's Oddysee. I also don't play FPS much so this probably skews my vision somewhat. I also played on hard and found the game very punishing if not for the Quicksave function, I would have gotten no where. However, playing on hard did make for an intense experience where I had to really take my time to cover myself and be inventive on capturing enemies. I also really had to think about my strategies and figure out which ammo to use when turning the next corner throughout the whole game. I did play the first half of the game again on easy to get the money trophy and easy mode just doesn't do it justice. It's not even the same game, I could just rush into areas on easy and not even die while taking tons of shots. Just the major problem with the game is that the first half or so is great in terms of executing stealth (much like Metal Gear Solid) and being involved with capturing enemies alive (which I tried to constantly do, much like Metal Gear Solid again). The changing from third person view to first is very streamlined and easy to do. The ammo is all very inventive and differing, making almost all of your arsenal useful and keeping you collecting the live bait. But the whole bounty thing is just too much, too many bosses, too much repetition, too many chicken characters that aren't that funny, and no story whatsoever on this part. The suddenly the game turns on it's head right after this and is more of an action game where there is little stealth needed and lots of big guns (your ammo almost entirely changes). There is no ease into this, the game just suddenly changes. While suddenly the story starts progressing into break neck speed, the game becomes more mindless in a way while still being more engaging than the first half. I wish the two halves had much more of a balance in the middle, I think this would have fixed the whole game. The story was very harrowing though and left an impact on me. I think I found some of the subjects and imagery more upsetting than previous Oddworld games as the violence or devastation was portrayed less goofy than before. I did not expect to see dead Grubbs strung up on poles for instance. The story was great actually, but very little was sprinkled around the game and the prerendered cutscenes, which I always found a major treat with the Oddworld games, were less around than ever. Really glad the HD version came out and I could finally play it though. I think the game is definitely worth a look.

The Business Side of Video (Space) Games EXCLUSIVELY ON IDLE THUMBS
syntheticgerbil replied to Henroid's topic in Video Gaming
You know there's no way LucasArts is going to hire an in house team that is ace, let alone people who are interested in being the next batch of adventure gamer geniuses. Besides, I'm sure Lucas Singapore is in full operation to do shoddy outsourcing work still. -
Haha I remember playing way too much of Animal Quest when I was younger. I remember it being incredibly easy.

In general I don't care, but my main issue is just Disney acquiring yet another large chunk of the entertainment industry. I guess we are all supposed to marvel in the way the biggest media company just grows bigger and bigger, and applaud Walt's legacy of domination and multifaceted ownership of entertainment devices, but I don't morally agree with companies this large at all. To me it's bad news all around, but I also don't really give a damn about Star Wars or Disney animation so eh. I don't want this at all. Last thing I need is to hear a story about Bernard going on a heartwarming journey with silly comedic pit stops along the way only to find out who he really is and what life means to him.

Frog Fractions: Learn all about fractions with this educational title?
syntheticgerbil replied to Tanukitsune's topic in Video Gaming
I should say it forked in the road maybe three times. It's not that the maze was frustrating, since there was hardly a maze, but that it was ridiculously tedious. -
My only interest in having anything to do with this site is because of MBAMAM. Is that an incredibly bad reason?

Frog Fractions: Learn all about fractions with this educational title?

God damn it, fuck this game. I'm leaving the window open for now but after that stupid maze bullshit I want to quit. -
I wish I understood most of what he was saying, because it just seems to be changing the way you think about your tasks, but it never seems to work in my opinion. I definitely relate to not sharpening a pencil even if it were my last task on earth. Brghh, the way I deal with procrastination is just losing sleep basically.

Yeah they make me want to take a step back too as I don't have many run ins with the law in the country and wouldn't for the stuff Kroms has to deal with. Traffic law is all I really have to deal with which is so insignificant in comparison. I don't really have much to add or help. Hope things can change one day in your country Kroms, since leaving isn't an option.

Is this an existing meme or are you guys just making these over and over?

Ah thank you. I did see they were at $50 but I was hoping I could find an even better deal. $40 isn't so bad, I'll have to keep a look out. I tend to do everything for free on PS3 for online gaming and Netflix or Hulu. I'm looking to see if I can get an okay deal for my friend and I to play some exclusive 360 games (Trenched and Splosion Man first). Since we are not really heavy Xbox users, to pay $60 for an account for a year of that we probably won't use much really sucks. There's 3 month deals for $20 but that kind of seems like a rip off and plus we then have to rush through our games before the accounts expire. Adult life leaves us too busy to schedule some good time sinks. I guess I swore I've heard before of $20 specials for a years worth of time, but I'm not sure where you seek those.

I really can't tell if this is a joke thread or not.
