  1. Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis

If I remember correctly the end game sequence is pretty much a dialogue puzzle that gives different endings. Be sure to save at the beginning so you can play around. I remember that lever bullshit being a pain in the ass. I could have sworn there was some kind of logic to it so you wouldn't just try every combination, but I've forgotten. I did love Fate of Atlantis and I've played through every path at least twice.
  2. Garriott: "Most designers really just suck"

You don't have to hear any of these points from Richard Garriott to see that you can get a long way in game design by blowing hot air. The way that article reads just comes off as bratty and is from a dinosaur designer who has lived a life of excess, so it's probably not a good place to launch a serious discussion about certain professions and the experience that is needed in the games industry. So much lies in personal experience and who you've met and worked with anyway, all professions.
  3. Garriott: "Most designers really just suck"

Don't feed the troll. Also I think he just sold his mansion+ranch here in Austin. I heard that had good design.
  4. How do I roll dodge? I already forgot. (Or did I ever learn?) This is really cool, I love when subtleties creep into games like this. When I do another playthrough, I'm going to really pay attention to this.
  5. Hahaha, now that I'm caught up I'm displeased with how long everyone is taking. SO DISPLEASED.
  6. Iron Brigade

Yeah my friend and I are still playing and we opted to go back and do gold medals for all levels in the core game and try to get somewhere on survival before tackling the DLC levels again. The first one kicked our ass multiple times. I'm pretty sure once you get those loot drops, you're really going to need them during the survival waves after beating the Martian Bear levels.

Oh, hmm... So can you not just skip the walk-in clinics and go directly to the therapist/psychiatrist in Canada? That's lame.
  8. Life

I actually had this problem but not as extreme for a while. Definitely therapy helped majorly, but I don't know how easy it is to find a good therapy in your area. Psychiatrists tend to just be there to dispense meds, but I've found therapy more effective for my stupid mental issues along the years. At the time I had a job where it was never very stressful and the rules were very lax, so I called in sick a lot even though I wasn't sick, I was just too depressed to get out of bed some days. I haven't done that in a few years now, which I guess thinking on it, I should feel a bit proud of. But yeah, I think someone talking to you will feel really good. They'll probably tell you to go force yourself to exercise, psychiatrist or therapist, as that helps with mood in nearly every case as well. Hope things start working out for you!
  9. Fresh Kickstarter Compendium Extraordinaire

My last two backs. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/yachtclubgames/shovel-knight Shovel Knight - A kickstarter for the newly formed company by some ex-WayForward employees, mostly consisting of the team members for Bloodrayne Betrayel, A Boy and His Blob, Mighty Milky Way, and Double Dragon Neon (the same lead designer for every single one as well, Sean Velasco). It appears to be a lot of old school 8-bit time fun is in store. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/e6absolutetreasure/electric-six-live-dvd-absolute-treasure If you like Electric Six, you can get a Blu-ray/DVD of a live show. That's about it.
  10. Life

I'd move if I could, but my girlfriend, who I will most likely marry next year, has a job she really loves at a vet hospital where she is lead tech. She really doesn't want to have to leave her job, so it would probably mean a break up if I just took it upon myself. We also originally moved here for opportunity for myself, but how I was imagining it is nothing like it turned out. That's pretty much it. As much as working at either Double Fine or Telltale would be my dream job and make me extremely happy, I choose love over job any day.
  11. Unnecessary Comical Picture Thread

    Fucking clouds, take that!
  12. Life

I would actually love to try both Gearbox and Robot Ent. in Dallas, but I can't move there right now. A lot of the problem is Austin just sucks right now. Well I'm not a big fan of this city in general either, but they usually have lots of video game companies without massive amount of layoffs. Is this your whole life?
  13. Life

    Ooooooo, someone likes you.
  14. Nintendo 3DS

Now it makes me wish I had bout a 3DS now instead of earlier. That is a damn good deal.
  15. Iron Brigade

Yeah, I could see how this game would feel nearly broken without a friend. The problem is you can choose to take on 2-3 different roles on a team and the chassis are specifically suited to each role, so trying to do all of it on your own seems stressful or just not fun.

I think I can be Syn, I prefer that much more than "Gerb." In fact, I despise saying my screenname out loud in any fashion. And programmers get paid the big bucks! I think you can do it! A programmer at work gets things done by quoting the wise words of Parappa the Rapper: "I gotta believe."
  17. Why right?

Yeah but it doesn't go over how most if not all of Japan is comprised of left-handed people, which I hear has a great influence on the direction you read and write. Also if you read into it a little bit more, Super Mario Bros. is more of a commentary on cultures who read from left to right (namely the United States), because you can go left to right, but after a certain point, you can't go back. We all just can't go back. However it is possible in ancient Persia that because early on you could go back or even up and down, they unraveled the mysteries of time travel by combining all directions into one.
  18. Gilbert leaves Double Fine, which makes me grumpy...

Ah I was thinking "Ned" was supposed to funny because it was an anagram of "end," but it seems like it's just a doofy poster with an extra space.
  19. Why right?

I think this stems from our ancient hunter gatherer ancestors who would wait for the gazelle to run from left to right while hiding in the bushes, spear ready.
  20. Why right?

No Prince of Persia does all directions and it's better than Commander Keen so there!
  21. Life

So, I was promised credits in this last game I worked on at my company that makes trashy mediocre F2P games. They never made it. So disrespectful. I absolutely hate it here and I am losing count of the lies my bosses continue to tell me about varying things in the office. I wish more people were hiring or companies I truly would fit in to in Austin. It seems like my professional career has always been art on one joke game after another and it's always so draining. Out of like whatever 7-8 games I've worked on (all some varying amounts of small), only one am I truly proud of how it turned out and my luck to work on the project. I guess this is how it'll always go when you're just the artist (not art director) and not the designer. All I can hope is Stoic does well enough with Banner Saga that they start having the money to hire up and maybe just maybe, I can manage to get in there.
  22. Nintendo 3DS

God I failed at reading and did not see that they flat out lost already. Sorry about that guys. I was thinking it would be another patent dispute taken to the jury in an East Texas court, but it seems this took place in New York. I am still curious on how different the technology is compared to what Nintendo developed and what the ex-Sony employee showed. Here's some more detail: http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2013-03-13-nintendo-found-liable-in-3d-patent-infringement-lawsuit?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=european-daily
  23. Movie/TV recommendations

Sorry I meant Human Nature, which was also a Kaufman script, oops. Fixed. Their DVD covers have really similar white and green colors, so I always get them mixed up. Oh yeah, I also forgot that recent short film he made with this bad comic book artist, Julie Doucet (who seems to have an obsession with drawing nipples poking through shirts). That was a pretty useless and boring short film.
  24. Nintendo 3DS

I read about that last week on Gameindustry.biz. It seems that because it's creating 3D with different technology than what the former Sony employer says he had, Nintendo is pretty much not going to be gouged by this. In some ways it also seems to insinuate that the former Sony employee gave Nintendo the idea to start developing 3D without glasses, but the Virtual Boy didn't exactly require glasses either.
  25. Gilbert leaves Double Fine, which makes me grumpy...

I really don't understand this picture. I really really don't,
