  1. Photos of things

    Well that sounded weird...
  2. Yeah, "bombshell" was Alan Partridge. Clarkson and the like started using it probably without considering that they are exactly the sort of awful presenter that Partridge was a mockery of. Re. pronunciation, I didn't know on Tegan and always get confused on Toblix as to whether he put up that little toe-blix text as a corrective or a fun-poke.
  3. Also, I am proud of tweeting the Thumbs to remind them to put this thread up!
  4. Congrats! I noticed Chris pronounced your name to rhyme with Vegan, though, not Megan. Could this be the biggest mispronunciation scandal since Toe-blixgate?
  5. I Had A Random Thought...

    George Lucas never double-posts.
  6. I Had A Random Thought...

This all reminded me of my post about the Star Wars prequels: Man, George Lucas is clever.
  7. What is the Nadir of the Simpsons?

Well, I haven't seen the episode but I would read having Lisa say that, and so bluntly, as a joke. But that's just, like, my opinion, man.
  8. What is the Nadir of the Simpsons?

I assume it would be more of a joke directly from the writers to the fans - "1) yes, we're recycling plots and 2) stop worrying about continuity, nerds", in a similar vein to the Principal And Pauper episode (or the Frank Grimes episode etc - just more of the writers showing their frustration at still writing this damn show).
  9. What is the Nadir of the Simpsons?

Surely that was a knowing joke! Am I overestimating Zombie Simpsons? Going back to the discussion about changes in the main characters, I recently watched Colonel Homer (is that the right title?) and thought it was pretty interesting for showing Marge as (imo) very unreasonable and standing in the way of success for the Simpson family, while Homer is acting above reproach. Re. Shearer, I always thought they'd pretty much have to throw in the towel if a big hitter like him went, no matter how much they might want to keep the cash cow going. I guess we'll see...
  10. Please tell me some of you aren't choosing the directors cut for your first ever viewing
  11. Oh, if Chris is going to keep doing different versions of this theme tune, I think it'd be cool to replace him saying "video games" with each host saying it once in a deadpan monotone.
  12. Danielle: Sarah Shahi has recently been amazing on Person Of Interest - I recommend watching the series, it's excellent (warning: the first 6 episodes or so are merely fine) - and she was also in that Sylvester Stallone film Bullet To The Head (directed by Walter Hill, unrelated to the John Woo film), but iirc she has very little to do in that film plus a weird bit of utterly gratuitous nudity. (If anyone replies about PoI, PLEASE NO SPOILERS for the latest season, I haven't finished it yet!)
  13. UK Thumbs

    ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn!
  14. The 90s Trek adventure games just got their digital debut on GOG.
  15. Life

Congrats on the promotion! Go in there armed with examples of what other companies are paying someone at your new level, what the living costs are in Davis and how awesome you are at your job, then ask for a 75% raise and barter down. They've asked you to negotiate, they won't be surprised or angry when you do!
  16. Movie/TV recommendations

That Harley is, but to be fair I only really know her Animated Series incarnation, where she managed to become a fan favourite without showing any skin. I'm not going to judge the film's treatment of her based on this one photo/outfit, but it felt almost as off to me as seeing the Arkham interpretation.
  17. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Don't know if this has been discussed elsewhere, but I hadn't heard about this and the first search result I got for it suggests that his reasons for leaving were unclear.
  18. Movie/TV recommendations

Kind of sad that she's pretty much in her underwear, though.
  19. Movie/TV recommendations

In continuing "Suicide Squad interpretation of characters is pretty awful/goofy" news: http://www.avclub.com/article/david-ayers-suicide-squad-cast-gets-together-yearb-218890
  20. Broken Age - Double Fine Adventure!

Toblix, that first assumption is especially weird as you were assuming against your experience in Act 1!
  21. Jeanne Dielman was thrown out as a suggestion for what not to watch! Perhaps Aliens is coming later, but it's not on the suggestion list...
  22. Regarding that Blue Bloods exposlosion and AYKB, here's my thread of Things I am Going To Start Doing To Make Films/TV Retroactively More Realistic. Re. the Two Thrones sequence, I actually don't think it's that bad. Ignoring the "But Two Thrones isn't like that really!" (because really, who cares? Guns and cars and physics work differently in tv too) and ambiguous continuity error complaints, what are the problems with it? Describing consoles as a hard drive with games on it - she's obviously simplifying for someone who is evidently a tech idiot, to convey to him quickly that yeah they can have files hidden on them and shit. The awful nerd stereotype guy - this gets subverted because it turns out that Ordinary Woman is a far better gamer than him and all his nerd-honour posturing doesn't mean shit. The air-playing - okay, this is hilariously bad. The villain somehow hacking his shit into Two Thrones - this makes no sense and is also pretty terrible (unless I missed an explanation of this where either it's just on this one disc and he has access to the source code and whatever else, or he works at Ubisoft).
  23. So wait, it's back to Alien rather than Aliens now? (And Jeanne Dielman is still in there?)
