In case anyone missed it, Clyde created a Cultural Appropriation thread.
-
I just gave up on Mr Robot. The first two or three episodes were fantastic, but (massive spoilers): A real disappointment.
-
Hmm, in that case the only alternative is to create twenty Xmas threads to push this one down off the page.
-
So basically, the answers to your questions: are: because it works for us; no; no/no; no.Lock the thread!
-
The problem with Metacritic is that it pulls from a load of different sites and weights them differently, but a) pulls from some really crappy sites, and sunglasses) does not disclose that weighting.
-
Actually it's a shell.

Ugh, I know. His immediate response is "insensitivity aside, what's wrong about trying to educate someone about what they are talking about?" I was kind of frustrated that the OT responded with an argument about semantics when really the response should have been, "Perhaps nothing, but the insensitivity is the entire fucking point, jackass."

I had completely the opposite reaction - I felt that compared to something like Kimmy Schmidt, Master Of None felt pretty loose and natural. I thought it totally took the time out to do stuff like extended flashbacks or dream sequences or domestic squabbles that weren't played up for constant laffs.

Ouran Boast Club - Planning an Anime Podcast
Ben X replied to Gormongous's topic in Movies & Television
Posting a link to it on this page rather than in OP was what I was referring to as a temp fix. How can you tell if new people are reading the thread? -

That's fine as a temporary fix, but I recommend updating your OP if you want to futureproof the thread somewhat (and remove hurdles for any potential new or returning listeners)... -
Absolutely. (Although for the record I said "deteriorate" rather than "degrade", and it's not hyperbole that's the issue, it's using an intensifier on hyperbole.)

Marvel Netflix shows (Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, etc.)
Ben X replied to SecretAsianMan's topic in Movies & Television
I wanted to make the reader feel like a PI by figuring it out. (But yeah, the new Netflix/Marvel series Jessica Jones, thank you!) -
Well I know I'm one of them but who's the other guy?

Pleeeease for the love of Totoro update the OP with all the episodes and proper links! It currently only has 0-2 with links to other posts that only include broken Soundcloud links! It's currently a massive pain to work out whether you've heard the latest episode. -
Yeah, people on the DF thread also bristled at that! I'll just say instead that I think it's a clumsy and unhelpful little corner of the language.

Marvel Netflix shows (Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, etc.)
Ben X replied to SecretAsianMan's topic in Movies & Television
I really enjoyed Jessica Jones. The first 30 minutes were pretty slow going, but after that it just kept getting better and better. I wasn’t a fan of Daredevil, but I loved this. Well-written characters, good structure, inventive, creepy, good fight sequences. The only problem I had with it was (mild structural spoiler, just my opinion on an aspect of it) - reminded me of my feelings about Death Note. -
We've had massive discussions about this previously - in this thread in August and June and also in the "Ethics..." thread in August. I recommend you do a post search for "cultural appropriation" to find these discussions and then check them out. You'll probably find a few simple explanations in there (although I'm not saying people shouldn't give you one here too) along with more in-depth discussion.

Interesting, thanks! Yeah, I kind of pulled that 5 years thing out of my arse, now I think about it. And I agree with the article's closing thought:

I might be up for co-op (though I'd need to buy a USB headset as my bluetooth headphones are really temperamental with my PC for reasons I can't work out)....
-
It's getting colder here so I am now regularly wearing my onesie.
-
Mmm, probably not, tbh. It'll be a load of hassle just to get frustrated after two matches because I suck. Thanks for the offer, though!

Anything you enjoyed about the game? You mentioned it was fun, but have only listed your annoyances so far!
-
Ok, yeah, the lightsaber doesn't remain that fun for long - it's pretty much useless when you have multiple enemies. I managed to get a bit of force speed and jump, which are fun occasionally but don't really help in combat. Anyway, I've now quit this game. I wasn't having much fun because it's so fiddly and unsatisfying. Unsatisfying weapons, fiddly combat, annoying level structure and shitty platforming and switch puzzles. I was trying to push through, using a walkthrough to get past the more irritating puzzles (generally to do with switches and bridges) until I got to one level which demands incredibly difficult platforming (sloped surfaces from which you'll easily fall to your death) while trying to find a well-hidden vent, all while a TIE fighter bombs you. I decided to try a few cheats to skip ahead, but just kept on coming up against shitty hidden switches and routes. I'll just have to hope that when I get to 2002, the next two Dark Forces games won't have the same irritations as the first two... Anyway, onto Quake 2!
