I've read the first three Wild Card novels (which are shared world short story anthologies mainly, written by GRRM and his mates) and they're fantastic. The recently released compilation of the first three Hedge Knight stories was great as well. I think I've decided to stop watching the GoT show, as season 5 felt like a big drop in quality and I'd rather risk a few spoilers while waiting for the novels.

Aw, that's very nice of you osmosisch, but don't worry about it! I could probably get amazon to provide me with a new voucher if I complained but I'm not that bothered about the book really. Now if you wanted to buy me all 23 or so of the Wild Cards novels...

Welp, I got the site working but I didn't pay attention closely enough to the instructions and assumed that the place to enter the code would be at checkout like every other section of Amazon. Instead it's a tiny link under the panel that includes the (again, unlike elsewhere) immediate-purchase Buy button, which you have to click and then, even though the price doesn't change, click the Buy button. And they don't put the instructions for this in the offer email, only in a screen you have to click through to get to the store page. So I accidentally ordered it full price, immediately got it refunded, then went to order it with the code but clicked the wrong book, refunded that and now am being told that the offer code has been used so I'm shit out of luck. Fuck it.

Well, it's right next to Blood Dragon chronologically so we'll see how they compare in that aspect when I get that far (in about three years)!

WINK In other news, I couldn't resist Call Of Juarez Gunslinger any more, so I got the latest Humble Bundle and added that game to my FPS playthrough list!

Well, I was going to go for Ship Of Magic, because: From a quick google, The Corrections seems very to the modern American experience to the extent I may not appreciate it as much If pabosher is going for that book, I may as well go for the other so we can give the forums a broader range of experience! Fantasy seems like an easier fit for my reading mode right now - ie 20 minute bursts during lunch or before I fall asleep However, amazon had "an internal error in their system", so this may turn out to be another one of those little unexpected and yet unobtainable rewards they throw at me every now and again.

Just watched it. While it's fun enough and has lots of inventive stuff (especially in the Toy Barn), it feels like one long chase sequence. In the first film, the drama and comedy is driven by internal conflict (ie a new toy is introduced, Woody is threatened); here it's Woody being kidnapped and everyone going to get him and we don't have an ending so let's end with a concert! Also, that sappy Jessie musical number is just so maudlin and out of place. Random thoughts: My favourite part of this film is the memory of watching it at the cinema and hearing a kid wail at Buzz Lightyear having his top half exploded right at the start. I suspect this will only mean something to UKers of a certain age, but the airline porter who shouts "Hold it! More bags coming from the terminal!" is voiced by children;s tv presenter Andi Peters as part of an item he was doing on the movie for the BBC. Robert Goulet performs Squeaky's singing voice. Breaks his strong Beetlejuice - Scrooged - Naked Gun 2 1/2 form imo, but they can't all be winners. EDIT: oh, re. Woody's name, Andy's mom tells Al that Woody is a family heirloom. Plus I don't think the implication is that the show was a by-product of the cereal, but I could be wrong. Also, there's a potential bit of explanation for the inconsistencies in Buzz's rules - the still-delusional Buzz tells him that it's a Starfleet command that all cadets remain in hypersleep (ie packaged) so perhaps initially he thinks of it as a directive that he plays dead while humans are around (not that I'm so bothered by these living toy inconsistencies as some!)
