  1. 'GUN_MONKEYS' from Size Five Games

Yeah, the feel of it is currently very different. Dan felt Gibbage was a bit inaccessible because it was only ever really him and me playtesting it, so it became a very precise game that took a long time to get good at. Gun Monkeys is a lot less fiddly. But it hasn't gone into open beta yet, so if everyone says "too slow!" I'm sure Dan'll crank it up. I have to say, after getting used to playing this, going back to Gibbage feels a lot clunkier. The one thing I miss is the big sprawling arenas that demanded a bit of tactical forethought, but that stuff may emerge with more people playing it. The arena size is random and, again, beta players may say that they only like the bigger sizes and that will become standard. I'll try and post any updates about joining in the beta here when @danthat tweets about it.

Looks sweet, eh? That's probably all Dan as, iirc, he's doing pretty much everything on it except the networking code.
  4. I Had A Random Thought...

Nach, that should go in the Comical Picture thread! You're doing it wrong! This thread is ostensibly for random thoughts, but mainly for us all to discuss Zeusthecat's junk.
  5. 'GUN_MONKEYS' from Size Five Games

Good point, I'll mention that to Dan (I assume it would require coding on top of the usual online stuff?). EDIT: https://twitter.com/TimeGentleman/status/332497581320044545
  6. An Education (in video games)

I think it would be helpful to give them a relatively easy challenge (get to X points, level X etc) so they have a reason to stick with the game for long enough to give it a proper chance but they can drop it after that point if they're not enjoying it. It would be good to instil in them defense against the relatively new problem of having a massive backlog of unplayed/unfinished games. It would probably be good to aim for very accessible games - they won't want to learn a keyboard full of controls or go through a set of tutorials every time they move to a new game. I suggest DooM, as a fun, arcadey and seminal FPS.
  7. Is Game of Thrones sexist?

    No, there aren't.
  8. I need help identifying a game

I think Teen Agent is still one of the free games you get when you sign up with gog.com.
  9. Is Game of Thrones sexist?

Ah, okay, excellent! Erkki, that's my motion seconded.
  10. Is Game of Thrones sexist?

I understood what you were saying, but it seems to be responding to an argument I wasn't making. I was simply asking Erkki to fix a spoiler and pointing Argobot to the original, more positive definition of . Oh, and I was also defending Revenge Of The Sith for some reason.
  11. Is Game of Thrones sexist?

That doesn't seem to be in response to anything in my post, Codicier...
  12. I need help identifying a game

    Realms on the Haunting?
  13. Double Fine is closing :(

    Was it me?
  14. Is Game of Thrones sexist?

Please change this, Erkki, it isn't true, and may cause people who have read the books to assume it's safe to read the spoilers and then have the show spoiled for them, as just happened to me! Argobot, a minor point: And even more importantly: how is Anakin killing the younglings bad writing or out of nowhere? It's the point the entire prequel trilogy has been leading up to!
  15. 'GUN_MONKEYS' from Size Five Games

That'll be coming later, but this means you'll have HOT MONKEY ACTION to keep you entertained while you wait.

  17. Life

Well, move the emphasis from "man's" to "tonsils", that should be enough.

The trick will be to channel Rik Mayall without just copying the performance wholesale.
  19. I Had A Random Thought...

Zeusthecat, if you want a thread called "Zeusthecat talks about his genitals and sometimes cats' arseholes" then you're allowed to make one...
  20. Disney buys Lucasfilm

Just watching the extras, apparently shooting on film with an anamorphic lens, plus spotlights, mirrors etc helped a lot.

Make sure to have a moustache that's coming off on one side.
  22. Disney buys Lucasfilm

Watching the awful Total Recall remake, which is the film people should be mocking for its use of lens flare, reminded me of this post. I googled it and JJ Abrams says all the lens flares in ST were done live, not added later. I hope he doesn't pull too far back on them in the sequel, as I thought they worked really well and it would be sad to see the look of the films mismatched because of some internet whinging (not you JKO, the "TOO MUCH LENS FLARE" crowd). EDIT: duh, I just realised that of course they have lens flare in the visual effects shots as well.
  23. anime

I had a problem like that with a flash drive once, I had to reformat it to a different kind of memory storage or something. I think I googled the error message or problem and found an answer pretty quickly.
