Yeah, this, I think. It's possibly also because I mostly use the program so when I go to the site it needs authorisation every time, though this doesn't happen with using the program on two separate PCs...
-
Yeah, I was just responding to Jon Cole saying (unless I misunderstood) that there is no functional difference between the vanilla site and the installed program. Anyway, you gave me my answer: the heavy Steam user uses both! I'll definitely give this a look, thanks Laco.

This is no longer needed. I just installed Game Maker Studio and as soon as it opened it gave me the chance to register for a free upgrade to Standard. I put in the license key they emailed me and I was done.

Thanks! I reckon TGP is definitely as good. Most say it's better, though some prefer the slightly more punk BTDT.

The browser doesn't have Library, it doesn't have little stuff like pop-ups when a friend logs in, plus it asks me regularly for log-in details and emailed codes. I didn't say it would take a large change in behaviour, I just asked a question.
-
Doesn't the typical heavy Steam user have it installed rather than go via browser?
-
Well done, but make sure to tell them they're pricks for asking the weakness question.

Are you only looking for current ("nowadays") comics? Because otherwise we have a few threads recommending the classics...
-
I'm surprised. I'd say that's a great puzzle because it's very logical and fair and yet it requires a bit of thought.

If anyone spots Dark Messiah in a flash sale down to £2 or £3, pleeeease buy it to gift to me and I'll pay you back! (Check here to make sure no one has already done so, though!) I keep missing that game every time it goes on sale somewhere...

I recently had to find something to sit on for gaming with my telly which is only about a foot off the floor, and in the end I plumped for a massive beanbag - it needs to be big enough to give a bit of back support when you're in it. I also considered fishing chairs but it's hard to tell online how close to the ground specific chairs are.
-
I'd deffo recommend Jimmy Corrigan. Building Stores was also very good, though not as narratively showy as I was expecting - the "read in any order, lots of different bits and pieces" thing doesn't actually make much difference to the story, and outside of that it's no less experimental than JC.
-
I was going to recommend that too (partly because it's the other massive slab of a comic on my shelf alongside Bone). It's excellent, but very dense so use your discretion as to whether your friend will get into it.

Why I Hate Saturn by Kyle Baker. Very funny, has a female mid-20s protagonist, accessible for a comic book noob.

You play as Alan Moore?

I had the great fortune to watch Super Mario Bros, and read the Wing Commander 3 novelisation in the same week a while back Both hilariously godawful, of course, although I suppose they both had tough source material to convert to a different medium. SMB had a great cast though - Hoskins, Leguizamo, Hopper, Fiona Allen, Lance Henriksen, Fisher Stevens (blacked up in Short Circuit to play the Indian scientist) and even Dan Castellenetta as the narrator. WC3 was intensely dull, and the authors had about three adjectives in use throughout. Kudos for the 'war is shit' vibe throughout, though. The only good game-to-film adaptation I've seen is Silent Hill which, although it had a completely superfluous desperately-searching-husband thread (demanded by idiot Hollywood producers in order to insert male characters) and the occasional clunky dialogue line, was absolutely terrifying. the CG was fantastic, the monsters scary, and the main plot intriguing. I really felt like I was stuck in the head of an insane person for two hours. Perhaps it succeeds because in this case, a hugely faithful move to screen, including direct transposition of dialogue and music, actually feels like a good fit. It's no wonder most adaptations are shit, it's incredibly difficult to take even the best film ever and translate it into an equal and representative gaming experience. It got me thinking about film-to-game adaptations, though, and my favourite film of all time in particular. How would you make a Back To The Future game? I can't think of a single satisfying way to reproduce the wonder and excitement of that franchise in a video game.

A Dedicated Thread For Talking About Star Trek Episodes
Ben X replied to BigJKO's topic in Movies & Television
Just watched that paradise one where spores make them all doped out. A few funny moments (plus the bit where Kirk has to piss Spock off is cool) but it's another silly one and pretty padded out. A lot of these episodes would do a lot better being 30mins, actually. Plus, to appreciate TOS it really has to be considered a family adventure show in line with Land Of The Giants or something, rather than a classic sci-fi show (at least with most of the episodes I've watched so far). -

Space Seed (the Khan episode) - this is okay. An interesting premise, but it never really sizzles. [SPOILERS FROM HERE] Plus the ending is bizarre - after trying to kill a load of people, infamous dictator Khan is sent off scot-free to some (uninhabited?) planet with the explicit challenge to conquer it. Did I miss something? The usual soft-lit popsy is even more embarrassing in this ep as Khan's key to taking over the Enterprise is a female crew member who thinks he's hot and therefore betrays her captain and crew after about five minutes with him. Best bit by far is McCoy's hardcore banter whilst being choked and having a scalpel to the throat. -
Just listening to the Neil Druckmann episode of Tone Control and had to come here to say: Sin City! A specifically Romero-toned zombie game would be cool, too. I haven't started the Walking Dead games yet, I guess they get pretty close to the feel of the Dead trilogy at times?

If they were guaranteed good games, and if it weren't a re-run of the story but using the same universe, I'd love me some Back To The Future and (as I've said a couple of times) LOST - I'd love to be immersed in the tightly-wound adventure of the former and the setting of the latter. The Who Framed Roger Rabbit universe would be cool, to cite another Zemeckis film. Watchmen, maybe - you'd be a crappily-costumed vigilante in alt-1985 (or any other year). Oooh, and Labyrinth. Powerpuff Girls. League Of Gentlemen. And what the hell, League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen too. Oh, Hectic Planet by Evan Dorkin would be amazing. And I know Bill Watterson would hate it, but Calvin And Hobbes.
