A Dedicated Thread For Talking About Star Trek Episodes
Ben X replied to BigJKO's topic in Movies & Television
I'm making my way through the bolded DS9 and Voyager episodes, and am on S4/S2 respectively. DS9 is finally starting to get bearable (the changelings tend to perk everything up a bit, especially as they introduce the ever-reliable The Thing plot-mechanics, and Sisko definitely improves along with his hair stylings), while Voyager has been consistently entertaining. -

I think the joke works so well because there is no explanation. -
Well, you could ask him what the deal is about asking him for advice (or tweet it openly and hope Dan tweets at you both)!

Dan always recommends twitter.com/AGTutty and twitter.com/ALGChapman for video game law (although the video game aspect isn't really important, they would probably know anyway...) I'd guess you might be able to find a way, as you get coffee table books of film posters by Olly Moss types in Forbidden Planet now, which I assume they didn't have to get all the rights for...

Especially if it knocked their Metacritic score up to salary-bonus-garnering levels. -
Me too, although in its original sense of "a little sniffle that a man is exaggerating into a massive illness because men are all such big babies", not the sense that those big baby men have uncomprehendingly and ironically now given it, which is "a massive illness that I, a man, have".

Are you guys actually talking about flu or just bad colds?

Yet another person who says they know it's a joke and then takes it utterly seriously. So strange. -
Very enjoyable episode! The name that jumped to my mind when you were talking about works set in the same universe was Stephen King. I haven't read much of him, but apparently even apart from The Dark Tower's post-modernism, there are lots of callbacks to previous novels, like characters passing through the town that "It" was set in and seeing "Pennywise Lives" graffiti.

I'm surprised the writers didn't sue! -

That's so weird. Is it known why they didn't keep him as Locarno? -
We're pretty much all saying the same thing here, but I think giving a public statement (not necessarily an apology) is not something you should blame someone for if the issue has become public knowledge, plus it will generally be helpful - if it's penitent (sincere or not), it's another public voice saying this behaviour is not okay; if not then at least people are aware of that person's stance. Acceptable statement formats would be: "After listening to public discussion, I have realised that my behaviour was unacceptable" "I agree that my behaviour was unacceptable, I erred on this occasion because of personal issues" "I think my behaviour was acceptable and here's why". In the second one, "personal issues" is all that needs be said; any more detail than that is only there for sympathy votes.

Annoyingly, it's one game at a time so you have to keep checking back! Games/years gone already: http://www.gog.com/forum/general/drmfree_time_machine_sale_game_list/page1 I might have been tempted by Cannon Fodder...

Is it the parody from The IT Crowd?

http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2014/01/27/gender-swap-is-a-fascinating-use-of-oculus-rift-nsfw/ I haven't watched the video yet, so I don't fully understand this, but sounds interesting.

I'm not able to donate at the moment, so I'm not sure if my opinion holds much value, but I agree that it makes more sense to prioritise cool Thumbs portraits and then get CEO ones with any leftovers.

That advert never said "you wouldn't download a car"! That's either a photoshop or a grab from that IT Crowd gag.

Fl0wer and Eufloria spring to mind. Possibly Dear Esther?

I have no idea who Macklemore is, so I assumed on first read that it was taking the piss out of the internet "no homo" thing. But I guess not?

Ha ha, yeah, I noticed that. I figured it was for if they cancelled the show and needed an instant ending. -

I like Star Trek The Motion Picture and the Star Trek reboot (first one only). I watched the Voyager pilot, and thought it was okay. Can't believe they also went back to the well of "trapped in an olde times recreation by a god-type being" for their opening episode, after TNG did Q and DS9 did the wormhole entities (albeit with memories), though! I've always been tempted to get back into Farscape - I think I watched the first few and found it a bit, well, Muppety. I was pleased with myself for spotting the Wizard Of Oz parallels. Didn't other spaceship show have a Jack the Ripper-based character? -
It's "pooh-pooh", unless you're actually using "poo-poo" as a synonym for "defecate". The other point that the "pooh-poohers" have made is that the nemesis system looks unlikely to amount to more than a shallow gimmick. I find it hard to understand why so many are finding it hard to understand why so many are reacting cynically.

I really enjoyed The Raid. I'm looking forward to the sequel.

Ep 7 was a really good one, then it starts heating up around episode 10. Caviezel continues to (purposefully) underplay him, but the lead does very very gradually warm up and deepen.
