Finally got round to checking this, and they're both euphemisms for Christ, apparently, but I think "crikey" sounds better.

imo 2 was dreadful (with a handful of good moments, half of which were also from the first book) and 3 was solid.

Excellent, thank you. That's what I was asking for. (I don't know what it is you think I may have made my mind up about.)

I was aware that Taylor Swift is a current pop star. That's pretty much it. I don't go on Facebook or Twitter that often, and when I do I don't have friends or followees who post Taylor Swift related things. I don't listen to music much in general. I get my pop culture knowledge from io9, avclub and here, pretty much. I don't click on articles about Taylor Swift on those first two sites (although I don't recall there being that many of them) because I'm unlikely to find news about the current pop star interesting. Meanwhile, outside of this thread, Swift has been mentioned on these forums a total of five times ever, and even then only in passing with no information to be gleaned other than 'she is a current pop star" - it seems no one found her interesting enough to post about. Instead of being shocked that some people aren't aware of some stuff, it would be more useful to describe why it's worth knowing about her impact on pop culture. Is it because she's a 'nice girl'? Is she any different to other current young female pop stars or even, say, Kylie Minogue in the 80s on that front? I'm aware of Duck Dynasty only because of the issues surrounding it of redneck-sneering television and the choices of the network after the family patriarch turned out to be racist; if there's a similar issues-led discussion of Swift going on, I haven't heard any of until this thread and 'cast.

Thimbleweed Park: A new adventure game from Ron Gilbert & Garry Winnick!
Ben X replied to Tanukitsune's topic in Video Gaming
I'm excited about this game for its pedigree and the ambition shown in number of inter-crossing characters/timelines, but not for its aesthetic or verb system. -
Wellll, I'll say it's a general rule that is made to be broken occasionally. But it's not like the whole of that game required it, right? It was just the final puzzle? Plus, that's half game, half advert, so it makes more sense for it to do that.

I'm going to brazenly state that any game's first playthrough should be designed to be played without the aid of any external source (manuals etc are perhaps exempt).

Interactive Fiction/Text Adventures (and their engines)
Ben X replied to Ben X's topic in Video Gaming
Fuck it, I've changed the thread title to make this into a general interactive fiction/text adventure thread, and linked to Clyde's subsequent Twine thread in an OP edit (if a mod wanted to merge them that would also be awesome).- 61 replies

I haven't reached the Taylor Swift part of the 'cast yet, and I don't really know much about her, but I saw this article and thought I may as well chuck it in here.
-
Wrong.

That makes a lot more sense, ta!

Ah, this is the bit I hadn't managed to find, thanks. I don't quite understand who is supposed to be using this blocker, though. People who don't support GG, and want to click on links to their boycott websites for research or whatever without giving them traffic? How does that cause GG any significant impediment?
-
Context, please! As far as I can tell, Randi Harper is a female coder and therefore GG/Cernovich are digging dirt on her and spreading her address around. Is that the whole thing or have they come up with tenuous reasoning for targeting her?

Yeah, he said in that post that he hadn't fully figured out how to do it and that he might change his mind.
