  1. RIP David Bowie

For the Netherlandically inclined folks here: I've written a blogpost about Bowie's demise, his influence and my own struggle for validity. You can find it here, if you're interested. http://www.uitgeverijleeuwenhart.nl/opgejaagd-door-de-thin-white-duke/
  2. RIP David Bowie

Absolutely weird, but somehow I'm emotionally completely undisturbed. I don't know how or why. Bowie has meant the world to me going on for a decade, getting me through some difficult transitions and troubles. He's been there, always. Perhaps it's because he was always rather inaccessible, that it doesn't feel like a huge change? Either that or I'm currently in denial and I might crash when I randomly watch Blue Jean or something. Osmosisch, I so agree with you posting that clip from Extras. Best part is that it's actually a fun song.
  3. Movie/TV recommendations

I saw The Hateful Eight and wrote a bit about it here on Filmadeus.
  4. Criminey, It's Christmas (2015-)!

One should have an oil painting of Santa SM, at the exact moment before the nipple reveal, to hang prominently over one's fireplace.
  5. Criminey, It's Christmas (2015-)!

And yet, Ben, there will be an occurrence of Santa SM
  6. Do you have favorite game mount?

Have to agree with Jeremymc, the Druid Plow from Brütal Legend (currently replaying) is a damn fine wagon. It's hilariously derpy how it shoots over the terrain, but also has a satisfying sense of speed and you can get Psychonauts and Grim skins for it. In World of Warcraft I was partial to the standard skeleton horses from the Forsaken.
  7. The terrible wallet scourge of the Amiibo.

So far I only have the Village re-issue, but I'm also very charmed about the whole Animal Crossing lineup. They perfectly fit the Amiibo style. Especially Tom Nook is brilliant.
  8. Star Wars VII - Open spoilers

For my Dutch fellow geeks: I recorded an epsiode of the 'Geekers op je Speakers' podcast with my co-hosts about The Force Awakens. It's spoiler-filled and lasts about 45 minutes! http://geekersopjespeakers.podomatic.com/entry/2015-12-24T02_09_24-08_00
  9. Movie/TV recommendations

You mean you didn't get that tingly Trek feeling when Scotty walked in a dimly lit, grimy brick room, and then an alien backflipped?
  10. Movie/TV recommendations

What bothers me more is that there is literally nothing in that trailer that is remotely interesting a ) on a dramatic note (it's just some stuff blowing up, people punching people, you know, the things that just ooze 'Star Trek') b ) in terms of science fiction (the reboot films were always light on SF ideas, but come on) c ) as a Star Trek property (really, take away the crazy make-up and this could've been Fast & Furious, dialogue and all)
  11. [Release] Shitty Wizard Comic

I loved it, Jon! It's easy to, because of the great art there. The Puffin character works wonders. I was hoping there'd be some branching (beyond the click-puzzle to solve the mystery),
  12. The threat of Big Dog

Soon to be patrolling our cities in giant form!
  13. Life

Can't give you any advice on divorce specifically, but generally, change doesn't have to be a bad thing, and you still have an entire life in front of you, to make of and mold into whatever you wish. You'll be fine in the end!
  14. Psychonauts 2

Backed it straight away. Sure, the cheapest tier (39 Continental Rupees), but that's fine. Psychonauts meant a lot to me when it came out and every single time I replay it, there's more to discover and another boost of charm.
  15. Half-Life 3

That's just cruel. I'm back for two days and already the bullying returns.
  16. Psychonauts 2

Wow, Psychonauts 2! Sequel to one of my favorite games. I'd back, if Fig supported some outlandish payment options such as "Pal of Pay", because once again, Dutch folk don't do credit cards. I'm going into this with just the same amount of expectation as I did with Broken Age or anything else that sounds like a good idea. The thing is, Double Fine hasn't really impressed me since Brütal Legend. I've found their smaller games either enjoyable (Broken Age, Stacked) or kind of plain and not fun (Iron Brigade). It seems that I do expect some level of insane ambition to their games, or my interest goes down quickly. In that respect, Psychonauts 2 seems right up there as a big big game. But, really, 2020 (the actual release date, surely), is still so far off that it feels incredibly academic to even think about this game yet. I'm putting it on the same pile of things that I know I'll be enthused about in a few years from now, but will certainly not get hyped before. There's just no use. (But, Psychonauts 2!)
  17. "Cars sucks." - A Pixar Thread

Oh boy, let's see! Here's how I would rate my Pixar favs: 1. Inside Out 2. Ratatouille 3. The Incredibles Inside Out really touched me when I saw it in cinemas, in a way that Pixar films hadn't up until then. I've always been disappointed with Up, which is partly through high expectations and then talking dogs and a weird, meandering middle and end to the movie. So basically the whole movie except the first act. Inside Out, I didn't expect a whole lot of it, thinking the idea sort of corny. But then, boy, it was so charming and meaningful. Everything is a symbol, and yet it totally works. Surprising and stirring. Ratatouille is just gorgeous and 'classic' in terms of structure. I love it, the scenery, the vibe, the 'villains', it's fun. The Incredibles used to be my number one pick, but I since grew a little tired of it. Upon rewatching again and again, the film loses some of its charm and lustre. It's kind of a weird movie, actually, full of strange and wonderful ideas. It came at the right moment in the superhero revival, but has since aged a little when it comes to its theme and execution. Still, pretty good!
  18. Criminey, It's Christmas (2015-)!

Thanks! Up this week: back to school to do research in one of Holland's universities where they teach Japanese! (And yes I'll be sure to clean out christmas once I'm done)
  19. Criminey, It's Christmas (2015-)!

I have not visited these forums in half a year and only returned to post the traditional SantaSM clip, but Ben beat me to the punch by months. Why do I even bother returning?! (I'm sorry I've been absent. Life's been nuts, I moved, I birthed another book or something, I quit my job to do the writing thing fulltime, I'm quite happy with my life, December is frightening as always, and stuff's fine. Once you don't visit a place for a while, you start to grow apart, but I'd like to drop by here again more often. It was heartwarming and comforting that the first topics that greeted me were Movies and Christmas, just like they have for years.)
  20. Nobi Nobi Boy

So, what the fuck was that all about? I mean, I had a smashing time. But I'm just not sure what I was doing. Can I file this under 'abstract Animal Crossing on cake'? I know it blew my Shatner's bassoon.
  21. Really apprehensive here. Dark Souls was delicious, but I thought we had put this series to rest with Bloodborne? This oddly feels like a step back, especially considering that the Souls games don't seem to take place at all in the same universe. So why bother with the title? If this really is a direct sequel to DS1's story, I'm interested, but I'm also curious how they'd do it considering the pretty final way the game ended (especially if you chose darkness over fire).
  22. Game of Thrones (TV show)

Surprising to read this, because I really liked this season and thought it had a good sense of momentum - in contract to the two previous seasons which were frustratingly meandering. All the characters in the story, be they ended or not, really progressed this season, went places, tried things, acted on their plans and then saw them in ruins or at least partially succeed. I've come to accept the many deaths and loose ends as a fact, and can, for instance, totally enjoy
  23. Half-Life 3

  24. E3 2015

Well and then there was the Square Enix presentation trailing Nintendo's, in a partly empty theater stocked with half-bored people and this guy: (Which was preferable to the entire rest of the presentation, which was so boring we cut it off and decided to read about the news later.)
