Favorite: Grim Fandango - Still the greatest use of Video game storytelling of all time. Best: Grim Fandango Desert Island: If I have a second person with me on the island to play with me, I'd have to go with Toejam and Earl. With the random levels, each time you play it's a new challenge, and some of those pesky earthlings never get tiresome. If I'm all alone,… I'll have to think about it longer.

I'm also in Thorn's position of not being able to purchase a PS3. Hopefully a PC edition will come out soon.

I generally don't use anything besides FCP or Avid, but Premiere has supposed to have gotten better (I haven't used it for six years), and there are a few cool (but rarely used) features to edit filmstrips in Photoshop. Other than that your only real option on the PC is Vegas, but I think you'd be better off with Premiere.

Yeah, that was the only part that really got me. Anyhow, I still maintain that the last level should have a few excessively trick parts—makes it more of an accomplishment. (And at least it's not like when I was playing Ninja Gaiden on my NES and had to start over if I died too many times. You kids have it too easy nowadays.) Also, I love that the subject of how fucking hard the Meat Circus is can still take a thread on a page-long detour.

I never played Wii Sports alone, EVER, but I was just trying out Table Tennis and that shit is addictive as hell. I've also never had to calibrate my remote mid-game, and never felt like it needed it even when it made me do it pre-game. My friend's Tiger Woods game made no mention of calibration. (Also, Tiger Woods never forced me to watch a three-minute video explaining the mind-numbingly obvious. The golfer or the game.)

They're going to need to include a disclaimer warning against wearing skirts, dresses and kilts while riding the Wii inflatable donkey.

I always thought Tennis was a big one—certainly the most played in my circles, but maybe that's because we have four wiimotes from the get-go. Bowling always felt the most accurate of all the Wii games, with golf being fun until the putting stage, but tennis was the real champ in terms of fun multiplayer. My friend lent me his Tiger Woods '10 game and his Wii Motion Plus (I'm not a gold fan, but did enjoy it on Wii Sports), and it's definitely an improvement. The putting is definitely more accurate. I hope to try resort out soon too. Woods also has frisbee golf, and I suck at it as much as I do throwing real frisbees, so it's pretty accurate. Messing around with it, I've found that I can throw the frisbee in whatever crazy manner I like, including overhand and underhand, so that's pretty cool. (Although it corrects for me if I try to throw it backwards over my head.)

Maybe they could work in some "The Last Express"-style against-the-clock stuff.

Yes, the suckage was shocking. I can only hope that Hurwitz was in a corner and had to make it so, so terrible. Maybe the Two and a half Men writers helped make it so bad. I was really looking forward to it, too. Anyone seen the Australian original? I don't know how it compares with that.

Funny—I was asking some friends if it got better and one of them said that it did…around episode seven. I am a fan of Firefly and wanted to like Dollhouse, which is why I was thinking of giving it another shot. But if it's essential to watch all the previous episodes to appreciate the good stuff, then toblix is probably right and I should continue to stay away.

If you're willing to pinpoint the exact episode number at which it gets good, I might be willing to try it from there. But I found the eps I watched borderline unwatchable.

I've been enjoying the thread (especially since I was out for like a year anyway). I currently only play the awesome Raving Rabbids levels, but am on the hunt for more (especially ones with good multiplayer). To sum up your work so far, Miffy, would you say HotD is your favorite?

Oh, wow—I know other HBO shows have been edited for ads and content, so I'm glad to hear that isn't the case here! Maybe FX is different in the UK than in the US.

Ah, but the job of an adapter isn't too replicate the source regardless of whether it will work on film, but to translate its essence into the new medium. I actually thought that there were elements of the adaptation that were quite good. I enjoyed parts of it, but ultimately felt it failed in tone and style. But it was definitely an interesting enough movie to ramble about for way too long.

I must warn against watching the series on FX—presumably with the dialogue and footage censored and 15 minutes cut from each episode (unless they show it in 90 minute schedule blocks instead of an hour). It's a great show, and is worth watching unedited on DVD . It was shot in 4:3 because the creators decided to keep it in that aspect reason for the whole series because David Simon thought it was more real or something. Even odder, they never converted the production to HD, even though it was shot on film.

Ah, but you're not taking into account the technological advances made possible by the existence of Dr. Manhattan. Yeah, the game is very poorly executed, and could contain more references too.

I just found the pilot of Dollhouse dull as hell, and haven't watched the other episodes on my DVR. It's funny because even when I didn't love Whedon's past shows, I certainly wouldn't call them dull.

I don't think any of the consoles are where they should be halfway through the cycle. The 360 is closest, and if the hardware problems go away, they'd be closer to where they want to be. They'd be releasing this year if they were going by their previous standard, and I don't think they'd even release in 2010. PS3 has not had the sales they wanted. Blu-ray isn't taking off as well as Sony had hoped either, but stand-alone sales are beginning to gain in proportions to PS3 sales. And the Wii needs more quality games. While Nintendo could be blowing all that R&D money on new consoles, I suspect that a notable portion of it is looking to expand the capabilities of the Wii Remote, a la Wii Motion Plus. I remember two years ago that we were all speculating that by now games would present more precise and exciting ways to use the remote. But it seems that most of the control schemes I've seen on the Wii were used on launch games. I think Ninty realizes that, and is trying to upgrade the Wii with these retro-fitted add-ons. In my opinion, they should make them very cheap (maybe include two with Wii Sports Resort instead of one) and really push third-party devs to see what it can do (supposedly a second Red Steel is going to use it or something—I never played the original). If WM+ isn't a notable improvement, it'll be a bust. But the Wii will still remain the ultimate party console.

There are some videos showing comparisons of the two different versions, but I couldn't tell how different the versions are apart from graphics.
