Mario and Sonic team up for the first time in Video Game History?
nsps replied to BigJKO's topic in Video Gaming
Good point. I don't think anyone could beat the Princess in Mario 2 either. -

Speaking of the 32x, I just saw one at my local used game/dvd/cd shop for $10 bucks, and wondered if it was even worth that. Anyone else have an opinion of whether or not the purchase would be worthwhile? -
Looks like some nifty weather forecast features and what not too. http://kotaku.com/gaming/nights/nights-to-make-use-of-wiis-forecast-channel-249442.php

Dude, Wiimote wanking is the best. And Mario Party 8 looks to have an even better wank-simulator: All the characters shake their soda cans, and at the end they explode and we see who has the most spectacular orgasm. I switched my allegiance to Sonic in the 16-bit days, but looking at the two franchises now, I can't really stay loyal. How did the Secret Rings one turn out? I've heard very mixed things. Gracefully put. -

You totally just blew my mind. It took WB and Disney a hell of a lot longer to allow their characters to appear side by side. I feel so old now. -
Well, I voted a 5, but that's probably just because I'm bitter that I have no time to play. I got Wii Play, which has some good stuff but isn't as awesome as Wii Sports, and I have a stack of DS games to catch up with (including Phoenix Wright 2 and Feel the Magic, just for Miffy). I'm occasionally digging Wario Ware (which has way better darts than monkey ball, in another parenthetical aside to Miffy), but that's about it. I still haven't played enough Twilight Princess to get into it. So that's where I stand right now.

You can also hold down B (in the first one, anyway. I'm on the last case.) I agree about the stock answers, though. Some of the funnest parts of the LucasArts classics are when you use something completely silly on something and get a custom result. Sure, sometimes you got a generic "I don't want to" line, but sometimes you got a good item-specific line or action. I also had a problem with one case where I tried to object with one item and it wouldn't let me, but once I objected with another, the item I tried to use first was acknowledged in the dialogue.

I was about to suggest looking at a ROM website. Not that I know how to find one or anything. ROMs are bad, kids. So, anyway...what the hell is Nights?

I'm also skeptical. While it's quite possible it can be done, I've yet to see anything that makes me say, "Oh, that's a minor improvement over 2D material." If someone does pull that off, the challenge will then be making an intuitive interface that doesn't confuse the users. The main question with the 3D interface is: Are we making it simpler or more complicated? If the answer is the latter, then why the fuck bother? 3D games are more complicated and harder to follow than 2D games, but you can bother because some gamers like the challenge. UI-designers don't have that luxury.

I always thought those were called "staples." I'm having a hard time remembering who my absolute favorite was, but I think (in the cartoon anyway) it was Leonardo. It should be noted, however, that Michaelangelo was a party dude.

It seems like there was a block in the run up to the flag pole on one of the level three stages (I think it was a nighttime level, anyway), and you could get in a cycle where you kept getting points (and/or coins—I think you could get extra guys). Anyway, I don't think I ever maxed out my score, but that's probably because as a kid, I never really grasped the concept of a high score. I was more about objective, which may be why I got into adventure games. What I like about SMB is that you can play to rescue the princess or to get a high score. Or something. I'll stop talking now.

On a side note, I just saw 17 PS3s at Best Buy. That puts me at $20,400 http://www.engadget.com/2007/02/09/ce-oh-no-he-didnt-part-xxiv-jack-tretton-wants-to-give-you/

Did anyone ever say if Hotel Dusk is worth picking up?

Smooth Moves doesn't actually have multiplayer, right? It's just fun to play with friends. I got it at launch, but haven't played it too long since I went to Sundance immediately after I got it. What I've played was quite fun. Rabbids is very fun with a group as well, though. I'd say both are worth getting, but like I said, haven't played Smooth Moves enough for a solid comparison.

This is sort of my story, except I didn't really lurk because I'm a twerp who won't shut up. It seemed like Psychonauts should have come out by now (this was a while before the Majesco announcement), and I hadn't really played any games in a while but wanted to play Psychonauts if and when it ever came out. I eventually found Moos' great Tim Fandango (which I guess is gone now or the URL changed?) and that linked to something Chris Remo said here. I didn't know that Tim Fandango was related to MixnMojo (I don't know what MixnMojo is) until someone told me so the last time this thread subject popped it up. So I thought I was different, but I guess I'm not different at all. So, I was very surprised to find a collection of intelligent people with communication skills, and I kept coming back even after finding out what was up with Psychonauts. I just turned 25, if that's important to you. I'm also a journalist and film critic, and like the site so much I've been meaning to write something pro bono for a long time, just to add some new content. I still have a half-written article-to-end-all-articles on cinematic adaptations that I wanted to submit shortly after the release of "Silent Hill." Unfortunately, I was too busy to finish the damn thing.

I think it's just billed as a special recognition award, not a "Best New Controller of the Year" award. Still, any reputable organization would have given such an award to the Wii Remote. All the other remotes are just imitating.

The new E3 will hereby be known as "E for All".....what?
nsps replied to Spaff's topic in Video Gaming
Well, I guess I should be in charge of the naming instead of this bozo (who wasn't actually in charge, he just won a contest, but whatever), eh? -

Maybe it's a reference to the ESRB rating "E for Everyone." ? -

Yes, those kids with PS3s barely have enough to eat. -

My friend Stephen Coles, operator of the blog Typographica, had this to say:

I've never noticed a particularly strong sense of typography in games. Designers spend so much time creating these immersive environments, then skimp on a crucial detail and just throw in whatever font catches their fancy, with little care for kerning.

You've got real presence, Marek. Have you considered modeling?
