  1. I heard LeChimp's pants, but Rodi's pants are also known to contain doom. You'd think if you want a free copy of a game, you could find one without bothering people on random message boards.
  2. Smilies that I hate

I always thought (after initial porn reaction and seeing it several times, so not really always at all), that it was a closeup of a neck, shoulder and head in a framing that appears sexually suggestive. Just my guess, though.
  3. Full time gamesite writing gig

Speaking of jobs, I'm currently working on a new biweekly (hopefully eventually weekly) A&E publication in my city and am looking for a Video game columnist to contribute some smart, thoughtful content. I've been having trouble finding someone good locally and thought, as long as we're talking jobs, I'd mention this one. It wouldn't pay much to start, but with the paper's growth would come wage increases. Of course, writing for an art & entertainment publication would require a little more background information and accessibility since not all the readers will be gaming experts, but I still think we can do some thoughtful, intelligent pieces—and reveal the possibilities of gaming to those who don't already know it. A thumbs staffer could probably tackle the same subject both for Idle Thumbs and for a broader, less game-savvy audience. And if a staff member writes it, we could throw in a plug for Idle Thumbs at the end of the article. At this current stage of development, I'm afraid I can't give out all the info on a public forum, but please pm me if you're interested and I'll tell you more. Thanks!
  4. The ultimate keyboard

I don't really see a touch-typing connection. It might not be that useful for video games, but many video editors have custom keyboards (or stickers they put on keyboards) that map out all the control keys, and this sort of keyboard would make sense for people who, say, use Avid or Final Cut Pro AND Photoshop and maybe a few other programs and would like such a keyboard for each program. Even though you'd remember the keys you use most, you won't necessarily remember all the specialty keys. And since you'd be using the mouse a lot, you're not going to be in touch-type position.
  5. PS2 Psychonauts?

I was wondering what the verdict is on the PS2 port of Psychonauts. I only have a GameCube, but since I have to go to my friend's house to play my PC version of Psychonauts, I was vaguely considering getting another console. It might seem like less of a waste if I could play Psychonauts and Katamari Damacy. So, enough rambling, does it have everything the other versions have? (I don't care much about graphics as long as I'm getting what the designers intended.)
  6. Oh no...

Tasteless, yes, but parts of it are executed quite well, and there's one gag that is completely brilliant in its ridiculous payoff (not one of the offensive moments). Anyway, easily offended people should stay away, but it's pretty funny for what it is.
  7. Dongs and Dong salad

Without further ado, I present to you…a dong salad (not for the light-at-dong-heart): http://www.thebody.com/visualaids/web_gallery/2004/turner/images/09_large.jpg
  8. Why isn't Psychonauts selling well?

This thread is becoming a real laugh riot. So, is there any model for word-of-mouth campaigns that we could start? Maybe some of the existing Tim/Psychonauts sites could put stuff up about urging people to spread the word. The problem is, I think most of us have already told game-playing friends, bought multiple copies and/or asked every store that sells any video game why they don't have it in stock. Doing more might simply be a nuisance. Any ideas?
  9. Why isn't Psychonauts selling well?

I was having the same problem.
  10. London

I agree with GFMcB that it was timed for the G8 summit. Unless they planned attacks on all potential Olympic hosts and only hit the one that won, they wouldn't have been able to coordinate the attack so soon. The Olympic announcement the previous night, however, did make for a very abrupt change of mood. Glad that everyone who's posted and their loved ones are OK.
  11. Penny Arcade and the NES collection

Which glove—Gaming or Power? Or both?
  12. We're failures as gamers

My friend and I had a different problem playing FF:CC—a GBA connector cable shortage in our entire state. We eventually had to grift WalMart to get the second cable. No real problems starting up the game once we got it working, although it's hard to keep track of the gameplay sometime. We never did finish the whole game, but did quite a few expeditions.
  13. Why isn't Psychonauts selling well?

Mad Jack, Udvarnoky was making a reference to a TIm Schafer joke. http://www.gamespot.com/news/2004/08/06/news_6104297.html
  14. Why isn't Psychonauts selling well?

I'd imagine we make up at least five percent. I own a PC copy too (even though I can't play it ).
  15. no gizmondo support here then?

I think you have to watch ads (three a day?) if you use the cheaper version. This could have been a joke, though.
  16. Penny Arcade and the NES collection

In case it wasn't clear, the "tickets" I referred to were various forms of admission to PAX. Anyway, the potential Omegathon prize would have to bring in 500 to 800 people who WOULD NOT have come otherwise to be worthwhile. My guess is that they wanted to have a cool prize and figured that they could recoup the cost with the rest of the expo. P.S. Was it just me, or didn't the Powerglove kinda suck when you actually tried to use it?
  17. Dave Chappelle: Gnome Warlock

Yeah, it's intermittently brilliant, but uneven. Some sketches are longer than they need to be, others just aren't that well conceived. But when it works, it works.
  18. Penny Arcade and the NES collection

What was the final selling price? They claim to have room for "thousands" of people, so they could make around $40,000* with 1,000 each day, and more if they have thousands and not one thousand. Given those figures and taking into account all the other costs, they'd probably need 2,000 people a day to make that prize a reasonable expense. Anyway, half the time I don't know what they're talking about on the page as they talk about bitter rivalries and what not. I never know if it's all a joke or only some of it, so yeah, I didn't know if the film thing was real or what the comic was.. *This figure will vary depending on the number of early, pre- and at-the-door sales.
  19. Penny Arcade and the NES collection

I think Gabe got a movie deal for one of his comics or something, unless they made all that up. Anyway, it is a promotional tool for the convention, so they can probably justify the expense. I can't imagine they'll do more than break even on the thing though. Anyone know how many people attend? But 776 games is nothing. I have more NES games than that. Oh, you mean actual legal cartridges.
  20. Beyond the small interviews, there should be short news feature/"documentary" segments, also in the Olympic vein. We could learn about how Tim Schafer's mom woke up at 3:30 am each morning to drive him four hours to the nearest computer powerful enough to work on game design. It would make people cry and make the acceptance speeches all the more meaningful.
  21. I suspect that the only reason these stars were nominated over talented people like the cast of Psychonauts is that they want celebrities to show up to the ceremony. It's kind of sad when you think about how talented voice actors are being pushed aside for name stars (who often give good performances) in most mainstream animation. Now the same thing is happening in games. Do people really buy games based on the cast instead of quality of the performances (and of course, gameplay, without which the performances would sustain nothing)?
  22. Michael Forever

But then he was resurrected, in fulfillment of the scriptures. I'm not sure what part Luigi played in these scriptures I speak of.
  23. Michael Forever

Wow. It's what I've been waiting for ever since Moonwalker. One question though: How did he become the robot without the comet?
  24. Of course, I won't die alone because I only registered so I could vote for Psychonauts (even though I haven't finished it yet since I had to install my copy on my friend's computer and can only play it intermittently). Thanks for the various suggestions, especially on the racing and sports games, none of which I'd played. Also, I haven't played Metal Gear Solid, but thought the boss stood out in the pictures because he looked like an old guy with a bird instead of the giant monster of all the other games. And now I can't remember which boss I voted for. Thoughts?
  25. There are two new Neo Geo CD emulators for Dreamcast that are supposed to run pretty well, and I was wondering what games from the system are worth playing, as I never had the system but thought it might be fun to teach my DC some new tricks. Thanks for any advice y'all might have.
